The place was fairly busy for 8pm on a Wednesday night, so it must have something going for it.

We discussed different options and got excellent recommendations. Food is in good portions and was served in a short time. Everybody was very attentive and we felt very comfortable. This was not the problem of the restaurant but was quite disturbing.

However you would only know you'd made a mistake because of the size of the bill. There is very little ambience, or in fact leg room, in this curry house. Built out of an old shop front, the Rajpoot was a disaster from the beginning. The rice was cold, the beers were far too expensive and the staff were unknowledgeable and slow to serve. But (there's always one!) I know it's popular and consequently the service can be a bit slow, but I get a bit cheesed off when ordering a takeaway, being told when to pick it up, arriving on time, and then having to wait another 20 minutes to half an hour for it to be ready. One time I tried arriving 20 minutes late, and still had to wait a similar length of time before my order was brought out of the kitchen! Another thing that drives me a bit mad is that although I spend an absolute fortune in this place (on account of how I'm addicted to the food!), the staff look thoroughly miserable and very rarely smile. A minor point maybe, but I'm quite fond of good old fashioned service with a smile, and when I'm lugging a huge takeaway bag out of the door, the occasional smile and a helping hand to open the door would not go amiss!
