He was like the 3rd or 7th person that moved in. His picture was even in the advertisements for Ann's choice and he has had some of the happiest times at Ann's choice and met amazing friends but we unfortunately realized too late even though people warned us that there is a huge difference between Ann's choice and Ann's choice assistant living - memory care (The rose garden). One is great and the other is all about profit and provides borderline abuse of its residents. I just want to warn others that when it comes time for 24/7 care of the people you love in their last moments please pay for 24/7 care in their apartment. Also don't use Ann's choice in room care staff and they hate their jobs and just babysit while looking at their cell phones. They are not "care givers" they are baby sitters who doesn't even talk. It will be a 21 year old girl with nothing in common and just goes on Facebook the whole time. Please please hire a 24/7 care company to come to their room. We actually found a company that could do that for less than Ann's choice assistant living (have to look around) and had the nicest most caring staff but unfortunately when we were moving him Ann's choice assistant living staff man handled him and made him start actively dying so we could not move him into the ambulance and back into his apartment. I know 100% my parents will be getting a lot better then this. So sad. See below for a list of the unbelievable horrible experience from the memory care and to a some what lesser main rose garden area. 0. Given the wrong type of drink very fast and started choking on it. Could only have liquid and it was thick. 0. Yelled to get up now when getting dressed or moved 0. Socks upside down which caused a fall. 0. Felt the need to tried to bribed staff w/ food for better care. Really under staffed with people from Jamaica. I guess they import staff to save money. 0. Had to kiss ass of staff to prevent abuse. Felt if you complained or said this was unacceptable they would start abuse. 0. He was freezing because they Kept changing AC to like 50 or 60 degrees even though they kept saying this is his room. We asked everyone so many times please leave the AC were it is at he is getting very uncomfortable. At one point we come in to find him laying in his underwear in a freezing room. 0. They are so understaffed they don't Treat these people like humans but animals. They have zero kindness. These people are just doing a job. Clocking in and out and you can tell they don't like their job and it's just a paycheck to them. You can also tell that management sees just profit and nothing else. From day one at Ann's choice i thought it was weird how small the assistant living building was. I watched as it got build and went in when it first opened. Now I get it. All about profit. Takes months for room to open then you wish you never got in. 0. Trash everywhere. They have the smallest trash cans in the room I have ever seen and don't empty them enough so we had to pile trash on the floor. The nurse also knocked over a plant and just left dirt all over the room. We had to clean it up because we were afraid they would try to bill us for that as well. 0. Tried to charged us more then contract 0. Lied to us every day 0. Stole items from a soon to be dead man that Medicare had given us like a walker and things like that. Just gone. The staff stole it. But it gets even better. We had a large wide blue cushioned chair we brought from his apartment in Ann's choice main building that went missing right after he died. Stealing more items from a man that has only been dead for an hour. I guess they really really want that room ready for more profit. His body was still lying there in the room as they stole our furniture. I can't believe it even as I type this. Who the hell runs this place. We needed to trash it at some point anyway so they kind of helped us but really???? 0. Residents yell for help all night. A care giver that worked for us said the residents also have ptsd about going to the rose garden and that people cry for help in their beds at night and they beg their family to take them back home. 0. There for a few days wanted to charge for 30 days. We realized after a day this is not what he would want. Their response you signed a contract for $10,000 dollars for the month. To bad. The room wasn't even used. Then they tried to lie and say you just need to get used to it or after a little bit this will happen or change. You don't have enough people how is that going to change in 30 days. The truth was they didn't want to tell us about the 30 day contract so they tried to convince us to wait longer. Thanks to them we could not move him to die were he wanted the minute we went to move him to his apartment they man handled him aggressivel

I was not a fan of them moving in due to my perception of "nursing homes" but I learned otherwise in the four+ years they were there. Literally every single person we interacted with from the nursing staff to rehab to cooks, laundry, maintenance staff, etc. was like family. The professional level of care that my parents received (and us as their family) cannot be overstated except to compare it to the compassion that went with it. We were really clueless about what the last years of their lives was going to entail, and the staff here did it so much better than we ever could have. My husband and I ended up getting on the waiting list and now have a deposit down on one of the carriage homes being built; it doesn't get any better than this for end of life experiences. Aside from the fact that the carriage homes are gorgeous, the kind of care that is there as a "safety net" is exactly what we want. The added bonus is us both being on the same campus if one of us starts to fail in later years; not only does the other one not have to move, they can walk to visit, take meals and do activities together, and in some cases actually be together in the advanced care. (My parents were together in Memory Care.). I highly recommend Lutheran Home @ Telford.

My father moved into independent living while my mom had to go into skilled nursing. My father is able to visit my mom everyday since they were located within the same campus. Bad weather no problem, you only have to walk across an enclosed bridge. The various levels of care both my parents have been receiving is exemplary. Telford Lutheran is like the Ritz Carlton of care facilities. When I would visit my Aunt in Florida I wondered why she did not get the same care at her facility. She was paying almost the same every month. Telford may be a little more than other communities but it shows in the care and people they hire. If you are searching for a place for your parents I would put Telford Lutheran on your list to review. You will not be disappointed.
