So, during these COVID times, we needed to find a place that didn't close at 10pm or earlier. We did our search and found the Annex Bar. I've been here before for takeout in the past year, as I've read that this is one of Cleveland's best "hole-in-the-wall" bars. This being the first time I've dined-in, initial impression was that the place seems out-of place. It doesn't seem like the place you would find in "this part of town." The crowd and the staff are friendly, almost like a "Cheers" feel when you walk-in and see everyone engaging with one another. After a beer or so, all the judgement went away and we just had a great time. I ordered "Rick" Burger basket and my friend got the "Patty" melt basket. The fries are similar to fair-style fries, small shoestring size fries with skin on it and freshly cut and cooked. The burgers were meaty and juicy, hand-patty and made to order. The special "Rick" sauce wasn't anything special to me, I thought it was mostly Mayo, but it was very enjoyable to eat because of the quality burger. I would recommend this place; very nostalgic for me. Reminds me of the types of places I used to go to in my early 20's. I will be keeping this place in my shortlist of places to hang-out with friends in the future.

Great little neighborhood style bar. Burgers are amazing. Reminds me of a corner bar back home. Very local flavor. Immediately felt welcome, even though the other folks were regulars.

I've heard about this place for years and everyone talks about how delicious the burger is! I was not disappointed and will be back again!

Good vibe for a Friday night and the way it is decorated is done pretty well. Once we were seated we ordered and were served quickly. We got the shrimp appetizer to start. The breading was still good and crispy even with the sauce. Some good heat with a sweet finish. I got the Philly cheesesteak with sweet potato waffle fries and my brother for the morning after burger with French fries. We both enjoyed our choices. They give good sized servings of fries and the burger and cheesesteak were a decent size. I would definitely go back!

Asked for extra crispy french fries when my meal arrived the French fries uncooked soggy lump of potatoes The server did bring out another order of fries that were extra crispy, but by this time I had no interest in the meal. Server mentioned that the workers were changing shifts he apologized once again, but did notice that I didn't even touch my meal other than one bite of a cheeseburger didn't offer to take it off the bill. I still paid full price and tipped as I should.

The location has undergone some positive decor changes in the past year or so. It is much more welcoming than it was before and just feels like a place to be comfortable. Maybe it is the bar stools that make that happen. :) Best bar stools around! The afternoon crew that sits on the corner by the garage door is a great group of people who welcome in anyone to join their group and just have some fun conversation. It gets pretty comical with those guys, so be prepared. Speaking of the garage door...it opens to a very large deck area that can get pretty busy during the summers. There is a good amount of seating out there as well as some patio furniture to just sit down and relax. Inside is mostly high top tables, but there are a lot of booths for people who like that type of seating. The group of bartenders and servers are quality at this point. They do their jobs quickly, and want you to enjoy yourself.

When the best things you can say about an eating establishment is "My server was very friendly and…read morenice...when she decided to come by the table" or "Oh, yeah, they have one of my favorite, rare beverages on tap"...that's just not good overall. Definitely a sports bar with a bunch of people there for the games but the lighting was a little too low and the volume a tad too high for my preference. Not because people were cheering, but that's just how it was. I will say they had a truly eclectic array of patrons...hippies, yuppies, blue collar, white collar...that was cool to see. Now the food...their fold over (think all things pizza without the crust) was good but the Italiano Philly...though amazing in thought...not so much in execution. The amount of toppings was great but on such little bread that you couldn't pick it up without the lettuce and tomatoes falling off. Normally not an issue but the Philly was loaded with such salty ingredients that without the "salad" the sandwich was so salty that it literally burned my tongue and throat. It took 20 minutes to receive both tap drinks...the first one came at 5 minutes. The other took 15. It was about 40 minutes until the food came out. Cold. Flaccid, unseasoned fries. Disproportionate sandwich. An hour for subpar food and service....that's just not my thing.
