How can you go and shop there, rotten food, when the freezer breaks down and everything rots, they still sell the same rotten food, frozen food is horrendous, its always expired or refrozen as the freezer breaks down very often, I have stopped going there anymore. read more

I was in Dumont and needed to also stop at an Indian Grocery store. So I yelped what was closest to me and Annapurna appeared. I was checking Google Maps to get directions, still unmotivated to go...then I saw it. A customer photo of the store...a poster of Mohanlal hanging at the front of the store. I knew it was destiny. They have banana chips. I haven't been able to acquire fresh made banana chips since I went to Kerala a few years back. I've been sustaining my life on terrible pre-packaged ones from Bangalore that parade around like the real deal. This place is a godsend to me. I generally find myself in Tamil Nadu when I visit India because I have an amazing friend there, but I miss Kerala a great deal...and I especially miss the food of Kerala. I make a lot of Kerala dishes like kadala and puttu...but being in this store made me so happy. I told everyone I knew that I found a place with amazing banana chips... I'm so glad that Annapurna exists. I'll be back....quite soon, because nothing can keep me from Kerala banana chips. Nothing. Not even parallel parking. read more

This is your regular Indian (well southwest Indian, if you will) grocery store, alright. But that was only until I discovered that they offer takeout Indian dishes (the regular sambhar and then, the avial, a veggie dish cooked with coconut oil - I know, I know, it sounds yuck, but do try once, it is actually quite tasty) at less than $5 apiece. Only, it is really more than apiece. It can really satisfy the hunger of two famished (Indian) adults. And then they stock all the rest of the Indian spices, condiments, sweatmeats (what kind of word is that?) and medicinal oils (no kidding). Many of them without expiration dates reinforcing if only, my belief in Karma. I am always happy to patronize small establishments and this one definitely stands out. read more

I love their banana chips. Pretty cheap for a good bagful. Their chapatis are fresh and they have a wide variety of paranthas. Vegetables are fresh and so is their dosa mix. The kulfis are a great find, pista and mango especially. A must try. They need more staff who understand and speak languages other than Malayalam. Even English would be great to begin with. The cashier has literally no idea what you are saying to him. Not sure if he is the owner, but if he is, he should step down from being a cashier and hire someone else. Kitchen is a health hazard!! We got some food as a take away and almost everything went bad the next day. When we had dinner we had already felt that something was off with the food but we're so hungry that we just ate it. We stored everything in the fridge and almost everything except the veggies were smelling. Both our biryanis and the chicken curry went bad. We went back to the store to complain and the owner basically said that we were at fault. We peeked into the kitchen and were taken aback at the state of things. I'm formally filing a complaint at the local NJ health department against the store today. read more

Great store for all your cooking and dining needs. They have cookies, Indian sweets, tons of spices, flours, ready-to-eat meals, frozen dishes, rice, breads, and condiments. They also stock a few basic veggies central to Indian cuisines. They run the restaurant next door that's nice as well. You can get nice hair oils here too. Low prices and nice owners. A real must-see place for vegans looking for canned jackfruit in brine and young coconuts (in the cooler by the register). They carry Indian veggies like gherkins, kerala, curry leaves and more. I found rose water here, as well as Indian tonics and ayurvedic products. read more

This is mostly a review on this place's customer service than anything else. I've always been more than a little intimidated by indian food and never worked up the guts to really try it before. The one employee there were extremely helpful. They asked me what i needed and when i listed the items, he found them for me one by one and even broke open a coconut when i said i dont know how to open one. So helpful. read more

First Place that comes to my mind when thinking about purchasing Indian stuff. They not only sell Groceries, they also have a small kitchen where you can get very tasty and hygienic South Indian food (take away) for very nominal rates. For the folks who like getting Indian fishes (frozen and at times fresh), Annapurna is your place. And, if you are looking for some Indian utensils (including Indian Earthen ones), Annapurna is the place. People there are really helpful and friendly, be it the person at the counter or the person in the kitchen. However crowded it is, they will attend you and will assist you in finding things if you do not find it. read more

Place is awesome! I can get frozen jack fruit, breadfruit, coconut flower, Asian purple eggplant, plantains, and spices all for a great price. They sell different types of naan bread as well. Many wheat products (no gluten free here). No PLU# so I cannot confirm if it's organic or conventional. They have tons of different nuts and seeds and shelves of Ayurvedic spices. Dosha bread mix is sold here too. Lots of cool frozen appetizers or meals. Ghee butter SWAD brand sold here. SWAD is sold at Wholefoods but rather come here instead (reasonable price). So many options for cooking oil. I made a nice plantain ice cream with their plantain and it was delicious. Going to see how their jackfruit tastes (prefer fresh but not sold here). Yay! I am a fan! I am obsessed with the Karela Chutney they have! Vada YUM, Idli sambar... all food tastes home made and super good! They make all sorts of meals in the back of the grocery store. Very kind and warm family from Kerala own this place. I bought a Jackfruit this week and brought to a gathering, all my friends were so excited for this treat!!!! Everything Indian and nice too....When i asked for something they didn't know about (Dram beans from an Indian cookbook) they gave it their best. When i tried to pay for 50 cents in Kari leaves with a twenty dollar bill my second time in there they told me to pay them next time. A real pleasure. read more

They used to be best for to go food. Kerala style cooking. Probably after they opened the restaurant, quality have come down drastically. I used to buy beef fry, avail or thoran from there for past 3+ years. Now I think twice. I had 2 experiences where food were rotten and stinking once it was cold. Recent experience being yesterday. Last night when food was warm, it tasted ok (bad wrt what they used to provide). I was in mood to eat some leftovers, i had to throw it away because of stink. One of my friend had similar experience, where he had to throw almost 40 beef cutlets. This was worse, where your guests had to tell, that cutlets were rotten. One good thing about this store is they are very friendly. Hope, one day they will return with their original quality. read more

Go there every month to buy raw ingredients as well as prepared food. I like the place but it needs some facility upgrade.

Great mom-and-pop store. Small compared to other Indian stores but has all the essentials at a good price. The person behind the counter is very friendly, helpful and personable especially if you get to know him. The icing on the cake is the small kitchen at the back of the store for take-out food. Absolutely yummy food at a fraction of the price! Their plantain chips(nendram) chips and parotta are MUST TRY!! read more

Very nice first time visit. My only complaint is there are no posted prices so you have to take everything to the register to get an idea of the pricing. Thank goodness the prices for everything I purchased was reasonable. I could have purchased everything online for far more than what I actually spent. I will definitely go again. read more
