Unfortunately, I have to say I experienced the worst massage I had ever had at Ann Physiocare.
Whilst the customer service was great over the phone leading up to my treatment when booking my appointment -(they were polite), I was so disappointed with the outcome of my sports massage.
I know this review has been put up later than the date, however I had been working a lot of overtime over christmas and haven't had much time to upload. Due to my experience, I felt it was necessary to put my view up even though it is a bit late.
On 10th December 2013, I went in for a sports massage with a voucher I purchased through Groupon. I was experiencing quite a lot tension in my back due to my ongoing spinal condition so was really excited and looking forward to a professional massage with someone qualified in physio and sports therapy.
I arrived on time for my appointment and was a little surprised to see that the clinic consisted of just a single room, I knocked the door and found it was also with one male therapist who seem a little stunned to see me. The website gave the impression that the clinic had more staff, however I took this on the chin and went to wait as he asked.
I had to wait an extra 15 minutes for the therapist to finish a telephone call when I arrived, which made me feel slightly anxious as I had booked in advance and the treatment was taking place before I went to work... however again I just accepted this as one of those things. Although there was nothing to entertain me like magazines or clinic information whilst I waited.
When I finally went into treatment I was asked if I had any pre existing conditions, and explained I had spondylolisthesis of the lower spine, nothing was documented and the therapist just said okay. I interpreted this nonchalant and passive response as the therapist knowing exactly what I was talking about and where to target. However, upon reflection, I remembered the website did state that the clinic used 'systematized approach to assessment, comprehensive treatment, functional rehabilitation and advice and education on injury prevention'
.There wasn't really anywhere decent for me to get undressed, There was a divider curtain a bit like one you would see in a doctors surgery/hospital....the therapist stayed in the room as I took my top etc off. This made me feel very uncomfortable. The bed itself was hard and looked rather shabby. The towel I had to cover myself felt like it had been used several times and also was a bit shabby. However, even at this point I decided to stay focused on what I came here for- a sports massage.
The therapist began by putting baby oil on my back. He didnt ask if I was allergic to any products or anything before hand and whilst I am not allergic to baby oil, it does make my skin feel very dry and I am not a fan of it being used. However I don't think they had anything else.
I could not relax during the massage as he talked to me constantly throughout the entire 30 minutes non stop- it was as though he felt uncomfortable giving the massage. He felt my knots and asked if felt anything there but did not take any action on them at all, and seemed to avoid them. All in all my massage felt like a simple back rub, up and down the middle of my back, warming my back as oppose to working out any tension or dealing with the area surrounding my lower spine.
I know this treatment was brought with a Groupon voucher but I really was expecting a better quality of service. My impression is that the aim of Groupon is to give you a taste of businesses leading you to continue with their services. Even though you pay less, the quality of what you receive should be the same as if you had a full price item. I am deeply disappointed, felt like I wasted my time, left in just as much pain/tension as when I walked in and definitely do not plan to use this clinic again. read more
