Visited A and E with a friend recently. Was shocked at the fact that I had to pay £1.20 for parking, seems to be taking advantage of the ill. Staff were helpful and treated my friend with concern. The hospital itself seemed clean, tidy and well kept. The doctors explained tests with great detail to put their patients mind at rest. read more

We have a wonderful hospital brilliant staff. We did have a full A&E service up to 2006. It has been downgraded to a Minor Injuries unit. They took away 13 consultants. The consultants that are left are probably the best in the UK. Now patients suffering accidents needing an ambulance have to suffer a journey up to 25 miles for things like broken ribs etc. Llanelli is the 6th largest area of population in Wales and with Ammanford near by constitutes about 65% of the population of Carmarthenshire all in a small area of the county which is the third biggest county in Wales. The rot started in 1998 when the Welsh Office ended PPH Trust and sent it back under Carmarthen Trust. PPH ended £400,000 in the black while the over managed Carmarthen Trust was £21 million in the red. PPH had just 6 managers, PPH should have 300 beds for its population but has just 200, 60 of Which have been taken away by Hywel Dda. Glangwili should have 150 but has over 400 due to being a military hospital WW2. The reason put forward for the changes is that services need to be centralised to cut costs, attract more staff and safety, PPH is seen too near Swansea to have its own A&E. Last but not least staff must have better training. They said they would save £100 million with the changes. Yet they have to be propped up every year by WAG. They have failed to attract more staff. People have died as a result of the Ambulance wait and journey to Carmarthen 45 mins. I live less than 5 miles as the crow flies to Morriston hospital but you try and get referred to it!!!! Better training!!!! but the biggest hospitals are the most under fire for bad treatment of patients. The largest health board in Wales had its management suspended for poor care. Smaller hospitals are easier to manage. 33,000 people signed a petition and delivered it to the Welsh Assembly that ignored it. I gave it 5 Stars because the problem is not the hospital or its staff. It is the Welsh Assembly forcing through a policy of centralisation that has also failed in England. WE really do need local democracy back. If PPH with just 6 managers could satisfy the population completely with a full A&E. Which helped both Morriston and Glangwili by having this A&E facility and stay in the black it proves a point that all large hospitals should be autonomous, With funding equal to population and extra for rural areas. read more

I have always had a positive experience with Prince Philip hospital. I attended many maternity appointments here and was always treated with respect and friendliness. The parking is not too far away from the entrance and although you have to pay to park, that is soon to be abolished so you can't really complain. My Dad operates Radio BGM which is played throughout the hospital and it is fantastic :) read more

After attending to an appointment ready for small Op. I first arrived at the wrong location, thats typically me anyway but was shown to the right access point by someone in reception. Finding the right port of call I made my self known, although now being 15 minutes late. Was then taken through to a ward at the day care unit on the 25th Feb 2014 to go over my paper work. luckily I still remembered my name and things... The Staff Nurse a native of Ireland no less. A typical Dubliner, who went through my notes. I was surrounded by Drs. busy bees pollinating around the ward. A Surgeon explaining the procedure of what was to come. Putting me into ease. I then came across the Aneathasist who then explained her roll, and then relaying the information back to my beloved, at one time I had 5 top class National Health Gods racing around me like racing car drivers around a curcuit. How they say the hospitals are in crisis I will never know, perhaps they need to do a visit at Prince Philip Hospital. The treatment I received was no less than the attention to a visit at a 5 star hotel. So I thank every one for the roll they all played and making my short visit memorable. Regards Mr A.
