I wish I could leave Ann more stars! After years of crouching over my laptop while working on a novel and serving at a very busy bar (lifting large trays with lots of beer) my shoulder finally gave up. Searing pain one night, then days of numbness, then months of impaired mobility, and finally terrifying weakness but that wasn't really the worst of it. The biggest kick in the butt was the six or seven doctors with different verdicts, suggestions, and treatments, the MRIs and the EMGs and blood tests, the painkillers and finally the only thing they agreed upon: "You just have to wait it out. It will take one to three years. Oh and here's some more Norco." I was ready to give up and then I found Ann. On our first day together she said the one thing that none of the doctors had the confidence in themselves to say: "We're going to get you better." I began to see results after that first visit and the amazing thing was I kept seeing them. Six sessions later and I was able to raise my arm over my head (something I hadn't been able to do for four months prior to meeting with her). I'm pretty much back to normal now and really loved every one of our sessions because I believed in her abilities and most importantly I truly trusted her. Ann is an honest, genuine and incredibly hardworking person with an understanding of the body that surpasses any other doctor I've been treated by! Please do yourself the favour of seeing her. read more

Ann helped my daughter Sophie's posture and back health immensely with both careful, lasting adjustments and guidance about how to daily take care of her back. Between heavy back packs and stooping over devices, I believe kid's spines are prone to problems and Dr. Brinkley really helps both in the short term and long. read more

Dr. Ann Brinkley in a nutshell is both an effective and patient chiropractor. I have tried 5 other chiropractors, and while they were able to deal with acute pain, either mid-back or tailbone area stiffness remained after adjustments. However, Ann's holistic therapeutic techniques, which combine deep tissue (ultrasound if needed), energy work and manipulations, have had the most lasting effects. She was always helpful and gave good advice. I must have asked her to show me the same stretches she had recommended on more than one occasion. Though the years that I have seen her (about once a quarter, sometimes more sometimes less depending on how much I have exercised and stretched), she was always patient, cheerful and without judgment. All of these qualities make her a truly gifted healer, someone who supports your health on many levels. Although I live in northern Nevada, I see her when in the Bay Area, and occasionally I make that special trip (3.5 hours+) just for her treatment. read more

After I broke my arm I went to see Ann to help me with the pain and stiffness. Over a few visits she worked her magic, paying close attention to the unique issues I was having with my recovery. She was fantastic, professional and thorough. Ann is also a really wonderful person, who takes her time and obviously cares. I would highly recommend her. read more

Ann has been a savior to my body for probably 10 years. I recommend her highly. She helped me deal with classic lower back and neck stuff from working in an office and on the computer. She helped me heal from bunion surgery. And most recently she has aided my recovery from a total hip replacement (and helped me survive until the surgery). As you can see from the reviews and her description, she is far more than a stereotypical chiropractor-she is a true holistic healer. She has radar fingers, finding where your body needs attention, even when you did not tell her or even know yourself. She stays up to date on developments in health and the body and nutrition. I see her at least monthly to stay in tune. And, when needed go more often. What I also appreciate is that her wisdom and advice has been validated by other practitioners I respect. If your body ails you, let Ann help! read more

Ann is awesome. I've been a client of "alternative" healers in Oregon and California for two decades, and I enthusiastically endorse her. Everything the other 5-star reviewers say is true, and I have nothing to add. Well, maybe one thing... Ask about the talking bird that she rescued and who lived with her for years! read more

I find myself talking about Ann all the time and thought I should finally write a yelp review for her. She pretty much brought me back to life after feeling super run down and dealing with chronic jaw pain. We had a few sessions where she treated me for my jaw and I started complaining how tired I was all the time no matter how much rest I got. (Something I had told my normal doctors for years.) And she asked me a few questions and diagnosed me with Adrenal Fatigue. To know where to begin, she ran some tests that checked my cortisol levels amont other things. Long story short, my cortisol levels were all wrong and she discovered I am allergic to Gluten. I began following her advice on food, supplements, etc. and after 2 weeks, I felt alive again. Adrenal Fatigue has a long recovery process, but I continue working with her and feel great. A side effect from not being under so much physical stress is that my jaw pain naturally subsided. Ann is a natural healer who uses a lot of modalities - the right combination for each person. I highly recommend her. While she doesn't accept insurance, she gives you a coded bill to make a claim. Very helpful! read more

I am a great believer in chiropractics and have made a point of getting regular adjustments for the last 20 years. When my previous doctor retired I was at a loss until my husband got tired of my complaining (too much weeding in the garden!) and made an appt. with Ann Brinkley here in Potrero Hill. She's the best!!! I go every six week for a regular treatment or more frequently if I'm having trouble. Ann is an intuitive healer and can usually pinpoint where the problem lies. She is well versed in holistic care and keeps up her education in the natural way to health. I trust her completely and you will too. read more

I've known Ann for over 20 years - I used to live on Potrero Hill & she was highly recommended by a neighbor - she is extremely professional, a naturally personable gal, and her office is very warm & inviting.. I think she is a stand-out, in the cluttered field chiropractors - they don't have half as much "hands on" healing practices! btw, I've been to quite a few San Fran practiitioners & have left them very dissapointed. I highly recommend you put Ann at the top of your list for back, neck & various bone & soft tissue pain - her holistic approach really works! read more

Simply the best. I am not a "believer" in Chiropractics per se, but I am a believer in her practice. Dr. Brinkley has helped me directly and referred me elsewhere when appropriate for over 15 years, and I wouldn't see anyone else. Street parking is pretty good for Potrero Hill and there are some great restaurants nearby. read more

I was in a freak car accident (in a Yellow Cab) last Spring. I was indeed wearing a seatbelt, but after hitting a tree/fence, the accident caused my back to twist, and my body to be badly out of allignment (and in pain). The intense pain in my back was worrisome- I was so worried since I'm an athlete with a training schedule full of 10k runs and sprint triathalons. The best decision I made was to make my health a priority, and to schedule regular appointments with Ann Brinkley of Potrero Healing Arts. Ann is a professional Chiropractor that I would recommend without reservation. She is an intelligent professional chiropractor with years of experience who is also truly is a healer. Her technique combined with her experience and intuition has ERASED my back and neck pain within a few visits. The healing continued after several consistent visits, and I still go back for maintenance and both massage and cranial therapy. Her massage therapist works with her as a C.M.T and she is amazing. This dynamic duo has allowed me to resume a normal pain-free life again. I am so grateful. I respect entrepreneurs like Ann who remind us that our bodies may be fragile, but with TLC and the right care, we can be strong and healthy once again. read more

I have been seeing Ann for about 10 years. She is the best! She really spends alot of time with each patient and really knows your body and what to do to stay healthy! I just love going to my appointment! read more

As a landscaper and someone with chronic back problems, I have seen a lot of chiropractors. Ann Brinkley is the best chiropractor that has ever treated me. She was the first chiropractor I saw, and after five years living outside of San Francisco and seeing plenty of the "whack 'em crack 'em" types, I was excited to go back to Ann. She tailors each session to the individual's current back issues and employs a variety of techniques for treatment. Most importantly she spends a lot of time with each patient to make each session a relaxing and healing experience. Ann should give a seminar for other chiropractors on the best ways to heal using holistic and traditional techniques. read more

Ann is one of the best Chiropractors I have experienced. Very knowledgeable, competent, thorough and compassionate. Ann has been practicing on Potrero Hill, I believe, for 20 years. There is a reason she is still around. read more

I have been seeing Dr. Brinkley for over 10 years. She is a bonafide doctor and healer in that she truly knows her stuff. She uses a variety of techniques that fit your condition, along with energy work that is oh so relaxing and balancing. She has so much experience, she knows which spots to go to right away to deal with my pain. She also knows and prescribes all of the best nutritional supplements that help with everything from sleep problems to sugar cravings to energy balancing. She also works a lot with women's health and hormonal issues, along with pregnancy. I know she also loves kids, and loves seeing the results chiropractic can have on them. She seems to know all the latest information on all sorts of things that our bodies can come up with. Has also helped me a lot with ergonomics at my computer and issues that have come from sitting and leaning over wrong. She teaches me exercises and stretches with almost each session, and goes through them with me. Besides all her knowledge, she loves a great joke and I always leave with a big grin. Laughter is the natural medicine. I cannot recommend her highly enough. read more

Going to Dr. Brinkley is always a wonderful treat. I have walked in many times feeling like a pretzel and have left the sessions able to breath and walk properly. Dr. Brinkley was able to work through my terrible upper back spasms and misalignment and always makes me feel so much better. She also offers superb advice and really cares for her patients and will spend time getting to the source of the issues. I have learned so much from her over the years and she has without a doubt improved not only my back, but my life as well. I highly recommend Dr. Brinkley and am thankful for all she has done to make me better. read more
