Anita helped us buy our home in Oakland back in 2015 and just recently helped us sell it. We feel super lucky to have found Anita because every time we do business with her, great things happen. She put in so much effort to making sure everything went perfectly. She's experienced, knowledgeable, trustworthy, and always available. We are huge Anita fans. read more

We heard of Anita through a friend and are incredibly happy we were able to work with her to buy a home in the East Bay. She made all the difference when it came to finding the right home, in an extremely tough market. Her communication was stellar, she always did her best to accommodate our needs, and was always prompt for showings. From the start Anita was clear about expectations and level-set along the way the our budget or what we were looking for was not realistic. At the start we had a very firm budget and Anita respected this, never trying to push us beyond it. Anita was happy to share her knowledge on the different areas, and was unbiased in showings, leaving us in the drivers seat on the decisions. Anita was incredibly helpful when it came to making offers - doing as much due diligence as possible to ensure we had the most accurate sense possible on what to expect. Throughout the process Anita was always professional. While the process was longer than expected (due to the market being volatile), Anita and her team were fantastic throughout, we couldn't have asked for a better agent. We would highly recommend Anita to anyone looking for a realtor. read more

I'm writing this review from my dream house. Thanks, Anita!!! Anita was recommended to us by the realtors who sold our house in San Francisco. Head's up home buyers and sellers: there is a network of amazing professionals out there who are there to guide you. We feel so, so lucky to have found it. The Mr. and I knew we wanted to live in Oakland, but we didn't know a ton about all the various neighborhoods. We gave Anita our wish list, and she introduced us to areas we didn't know existed. She's sharp, patient, honest and knows her market inside and out. At every open house we went to, when the realtor would ask who our agent was, we got the same response, "Oh, Anita! Everyone loves Anita." There's a reason for that. When we finally found an amazing house, Anita worked really hard to help us get it -- which wasn't super easy. But she's got strategies, and knows how to get what you want. We bid on only one house. And we got it! Pretty much entirely due to her guidance. If you want to buy a home in Oakland/Berkeley/Alameda, you could not do better than Anita. read more

In 2010 Anita helped me buy my first home with my then-husband - a foreclosed condo in a great Oakland neighborhood (see my original review, below). Fast-forward three years, and we needed to sell it. I immediately called Anita, while my ex-husband hit it off with Cheyenne Ward, an agent he met at an open house in the neighborhood. Anita and Cheyenne paired up to help us sell, and what could have been an extremely sticky situation was managed flawlessly. Throughout the entire process, I felt that Anita had my back. She made sure that I was always comfortable with any decision made, and used her vast amount of experience to secure a painter and a stager we could afford in record time. She and Cheyenne priced our home perfectly, had it painted and staged within a week, and had it sold for a great profit in a matter of a month. It was way more than I could have hoped for, and I am so thankful. Anita, I doubt that I will be buying another place in Oakland, but if I were, you'd be my go-to lady. As it is, I will recommend you to anyone who will listen. :) Thank you so much - you are a very special person! read more

Anita Becker is top notch and I can't recommend her highly enough! Anita stepped in last minute on my house sale when my contract with my existing agent fell through suddenly. She was already very busy but found a way to take me on and salvage the bad situation and turn it around and get my house ready for market in a very short time. I was also very stressed due to my other agent pulling out and Anita was so calm and organized that by that very night I was calm and knew I was in good hands. Then two other crises happened during the sale, including our first offer falling through. Anita handled both both bad situations deftly and calmly, turning both situations around. The end result was that our house sold and at the price we wanted. I was so thankful to have Anita on board, as a less skilled agent would not necessarily been able to handle these complex and stressful situations successfully as she did. She is super smart, very informed and knowledgeable about all aspects of real estate, and extremely organized and responsive. At times it blew my mind how many things she could handle at once, always staying calm and focused. The end result was that my house sold in a timely manner for the price we had hoped for! If you want the best, go with Anita! read more

We started working with Anita two weeks ago, and today had an offer accepted on an beautiful home we love. Anita is professional, personable, and incredibly knowledgable of so many aspects of home-buying. She made something that could have been nerve-wracking into a truly positive experience. The best advice I can give, is to set Anita as your navigation and just go along with the ride. You're in the best hands possible. read more

I worked with Anita and Maria to sell my family's home in Oakland. They were absolute professionals and I can't recommend them enough. Of the 5 real estate transactions I've done, they were far and away the best agents I've worked with (and I have been fortunate to work with some great agents). This wasn't any ordinary transaction. We were selling our home in the middle of a pandemic, recession and remotely (we had already moved out of the Bay Area). This meant Anita and Maria had their work cut out for them. Throughout the process they demonstrated tremendous experience and local knowledge, helpfulness, masterful guidance, and excellent marketing chops. The house couldn't have been prepped better and the photos, website, virtual tours and everything else were first rate. And most importantly, they're good people. Always accessible, thoughtful and poised. The rest was an experience, listing and transaction that far exceeded our expectations. You really can't ask for more from an agent. read more

My husband and I worked with Anita to buy our SFH in an extremely challenging market and we are super fortunate to have Anita help us win our 2nd bid in just 2 weeks! We wanted to close fast and Anita was super on top of the whole process with every new potential listing that came up on the market and throughout the whole process until we got the keys to a great home that we really love. She was very informative and helpful throughout and was exactly what we needed for 2 people who are buying homes for the very first time! She even went all out of her way to get us to close faster than the stipulated 21 days and we were extremely thrilled to move in 1 week earlier than originally expected. We really appreciated how well she knew the market and what a competitive bid price would be, which was absolutely pivotal in helping us win this place we're sitting in right now. :) read more

Whoa! I've been meaning to write this review for ages, and with this new wave of friends looking for homes, seemed like a good time to write this up. When my better half and I decided to look into buying a house...it was a mix of trepidation (more like sheer terror) and common sense (rent was starting to make mortgages look more appealing...). Add to that very involved parental influences on both sides (my mother was the last inspection--I flew her in to hear all her thoughts on all levels of mind boggling minutae...remind you of someone? ...me, perhaps?). And add to that the fact that other than price limits, we had no idea of what we were looking for. Enter Anita, who was calm, knowledgeable, and a natural communicator/negotiator. She worked hard to show us the gamut of what was available (and some of what wasn't, just so we understood the vagaries of East Bay living), and even managed to discern what it was we were looking for. Through the entire process, she took the time to strategize and advise us on every step and detail. Her friendly professional demeanor meant that we could count on her to navigate relationships with the sellers, inspectors and was gracious and an excellent communicator with both sets of parents. We couldn't be more happy with the entire process, and with our home. Thanks to Anita, we managed to find a place that we love, where we hope to make a home for many years to come. If you need a real estate agent, I can't recommend Anita highly enough. read more

My fiancee and I recently bought a home and Anita was our realtor and was awesome. We were first time home buyers, so you can imagine we had a ton of questions, concerns - you name it and she was great about answering all of them. We actually found the property on our own, and contacted Anita afterwards to help us finalize the details. What was great, was she took us to a bunch of additional properties in the neighborhood to make sure were found the "one" and also showed us other neighborhoods to consider. She then helped us with making the offer, all of the inspections (we had a bunch), and has continued to follow up afterwards. We appreciated Anita's help all along the way and would definitely recommend her for a realtor. read more

I dreaded a lot before I started my first home searching process and I really had no clue where to start. I read through pages and pages of posts on redfin/trulia etc and decided that I really want to work with a buyer's agent that I can personally trust. I naturally turned to yelp as I was searching for signs from others' experiences. But to my dismay, many seem to be written by people with only one or two reviews in total (a sign of astroturfing/fake reviews to me), not to mention some have a really sketchy filtered/unfiltered review ratio. By pure chance that I found Anita's page and all reviews seem to be from real yelpers. I decided to take an interview with her and so far my experience has been nothing short of fabulous. She has been extremely patient and helpful working with me and has listened to all my needs very carefully. She even taught me all the problems and things to look out for when buying a home (bolted foundation/sheathing cripple wall/drainage etc). Furthermore, she would tell me exactly which homes are not suitable to my needs and turn me AWAY from those homes. That's something that I truly value from a buyer's agent, knowing all the typical incentives etc of getting a transaction done asap. I'm still in the searching stage so far and I will definitely update once I get my first home through Anita (hopefully soon). read more

There are 2 words that come to mind when I think of Anita...ON IT! Selling our home was no small feat and with every little fire Anita was there to douse it out with ease and patience. It can be scary to sell or buy a home and Anita and her partner Liz did everything they could to make use feel comfortable and get us the best price for our home...which they did in spades. Anita also has a endless roster of people to help you through the housing process. Need the house painted? She's got the right person. Require movers? She knows the company. Working with Anita was a pleasure which is a big statement in an industry where most people have horror stories. I feel incredibly lucky to have met Anita and know for sure we will be working together in the future. read more

My husband and I worked with Anita to buy our first home in Alameda last month. We were unclear where we wanted to live in the East Bay and Anita provided us a lot of insight into neighborhoods in both Oakland and Alameda. It took us a *long* time to get serious about our house search but we never felt like Anita pressured us to move faster than we wanted. When we finally found our house, Anita made sure that we had the information we needed to put together a successful offer. And after we closed, she continued to guide us with contractor recommendations that made getting some needed repairs stress-free. Even in the incredibly overheated East Bay housing market, we found the home-buying process way more pleasant than we ever expected. We attribute that in large part to working with Anita and her incredible network of professionals. Anyone reading this should have no hesitation about working with Anita, she's amazing! read more

Anita is fantastic!! I would highly recommend her to everyone!!! We initially got referred from someone who had made charts (!!!) of realtors and what he was looking for...and he chose Anita who sold him a home. We started looking for a home around 1-2 years ago, going in phases of starting and stopping. Anita was so patient with us and yet so inspired to show us properties that were a good fit for us, regardless of the outcome. After taking a break of 4-6 months we were casually looking when Anita found us the listing of our dreams! We just bought a condo in upper Rockridge and we are thrilled! She knew just what we were looking for and negotiated an amazing deal for us. Since we are first time home buyers, she also helped up with all aspects of the escrow as well as getting bids for contractors to do work on our home before we moved in. It seemed as though we were her only clients, she worked tirelessly day and night to help our deal come through in a month or so!! She took extremely good care of us from the begining of the process to end and I would be happy to share our experiences with others. I highly recommend Anita Becker! read more

I worked with Anita Becker to find my dream Oakland home. Because of her knowledge of Oakland, she had insight into the neighborhoods I was interested in. She supported me in taking a risk, and shared my vision of the potential in the home we chose. Advocating for me to get my home, she convinced the sellers to go with me. Five years forward, Anita and Liz McFarland, helped me sell my Oakland home. Knowing that the decision was very hard for me and my mother, they made the whole process smooth. They were able to sell it in two weeks, to a buyer that I felt comfortable with and that allowed me to say goodbye to the first home I owned and loved. Thank you Anita and Liz for your compassion, knowledge and support in buying and selling my home! read more

Anita and Maria were our brokers to sell my family's home in Berkeley. Their guidance, advice, and professionalism far exceeded our expectations. We really felt that our interests were aligned, which allowed us to have the utmost trust in them. The result was that our sale went very smoothly. When we had questions or were concerned about something, they were very available to provide clarity. They are a great team and are the best agents I have ever worked with. Compass is lucky to have them. Two thumbs up! read more

Thanks to Anita, we're able to write a review in the first home we've ever owned (so, of course it should be about her!) Without her, we'd still be sitting on the sidelines as home after home went for waaaayyy more than we could swallow. Anita worked overtime to make sure we understood the market and didn't miss out on what she knew was a good deal. Thanks to her patience, deep Oakland knowledge, and excellent communication skills we were able to pay UNDER asking at time when homes are selling for 15%+ over. Anita hung in there patiently while we bombarded her with questions and concerns. Always responsive, friendly, and honest, we could count on her to get back to us day and night. She listened when we told her what we were looking for and never tried to force an ill-fitting property on us just to make a sale. When the day arrives for us to sell or buy again, Anita will be our first call. Do yourself a favor and choose her as your agent!! read more

My wife and I worked with Anita to find a home in the East Bay this past summer. Recommended by a friend, Anita really took the time to understand our needs/wants -- both around neighborhoods and specific pieces of property. This time investment on her part helped us not only sharpen our priority list, but also narrow our focus. It also helped Anita's filter on her suggestions what we look at. Anita's insight into the market was really top-notch -- she regularly was pegging sale prices of homes, which gave us confidence in our bids. In addition, her insight into what kind of $s we'd need to spend on a home was invaluable in our decision-making (i.e., how much work we were willing to take on, how much we should bid). When we did make our bid, Anita negotiated fiercely on our behalf. Lastly, Anita has continued to help us as we've settled into our place, giving us great recos/POVs on service providers. Rock star! read more

This review is long overdue! Anita (along with her partner Maria) is amazing! She helped us buy our first home and then maximize our profits when we sold it. She takes the time to explain everything to you in digestible pieces and has a plethora of knowledge and resources. We can not recommend her enough!!!! read more

My partner and I worked with Anita and her business partner Liz to sell our Oakland home in December 2017. Liz was our primary contact throughout the process, but Anita was invaluable to us as well. She provided sharp, honest analysis of our (overheated) micro market in East Oakland, and was always available when we had questions. Anita and Liz's deep understanding of (and professional network within) the East Bay gave us a lot of confidence as sellers, and I'm sure they would be wonderful to work with on the buying side, too. Ultimately, Anita and Liz delivered several solid offers to us at or above our ideal price point, in an incredibly short period of time. You can't go wrong with Anita and Liz! read more

I can't recommend Anita highly enough. Anita helped us buy our first home in Oakland after working with us for over a year (!). Working with Anita was GREAT! She's incredibly knowledgeable about the market and the area, is a sharp negotiator, and was so willing to walk us through every step of the process. She's super responsive, and worked really hard to understand what exactly we were looking for, and to help us find that inside our budget. As an added bonus, every realtor we talked to at open houses responded "Oh Anita is your realtor? She's amazing!" when we explained who we were working with. Anita is great---take the stress out of a big decision, and work with Anita! read more

Anita Becker and her partner Liz McFarland were an absolute godsend. I'd bought my house in a transitional area of Oakland during the real estate slump in 2009, after a divorce. When I had to leave the bay area in the Fall of 2016, I knew the house had increased in value and that there was potential for a significant profit; but I was intimidated by the Bay Area real estate protocols that seem to take elaborate staging, landscaping, and expensive upgrades before listing as givens. I was worried about the cash an agent would insist I provide up front for those expenses, if I could find an agent that would even be interested in representing my little house at all in the midst of the crazy East Bay real estate scene. Liz and Anita contacted me at the request of a friend who had just sold a million-plus dollar property. I was honestly embarrassed when they toured my little house and handed over the slick binder of comps and staging ideas that they'd created for my house. I was sure they wouldn't be interested in wasting their time with me. However, they came back to me after the tour with contractors, stagers, etc. who were willing to be reimbursed for their services at closing. They gave me a date to vacate the house (I left the state,) then proceeded to handle **ABSOLUTELY EVERYTHING** until the house went on MLS a few weeks later looking like it had been lifted out of Pasadena's bungalow heaven. I swear to god. In the following month they helped me navigate the multiple offers and various decisions to be made until the house closed for very nearly three times what I'd paid for it. I can't express how thankful I am for their professional guidance, and I recommend Anita and Liz with enthusiasm. Many thanks again! read more

Anita is awesome. We worked with her last year to find our new home in Berkeley. We had been looking for a while on our own and were feeling frustrated with the search process. Another realtor in SF pointed us toward Anita, and we knew from our first meeting that she was knowledgeable, insightful and dedicated. She patiently stuck with us for months while we hemmed and hawed about which houses to actively pursue. When the bidding started to get crazy, Anita wasn't afraid to tell us when she thought something wasn't worth it and when it was. She's incredibly honest and easy to work with. Whenever we mentioned to sellers' agents that we were working with Anita, across the board they said that she's a great realtor and a real straight shooter. We couldn't agree more. When we finally found the right house for us, Anita was there for us every step of the way. In fact, during a somewhat complex bidding process, she went the extra mile to advocate for us and ensure we were being treated fairly. In all honesty, that's what made the difference in us getting the house we were looking for. We can't say enough good things about Anita as a realtor and as an all-around good person. She's a fantastic agent. read more

As a nervous first-time homebuyer, I had a fantastic experience working with Anita and would recommend her to anyone without hesitation. It's hard to know what to highlight from the experience, from getting to know the (competitive! whoa!) East Bay buying market to finally closing on our charming, move-in-ready 1917 bungalow. But here goes! Anita is exceptionally trustworthy, honest, and reasonable. I always felt she was looking out for us. Her tone is just right--spending time with her, she's patient and straightforward, with a good sense of humor. She talked us through what we could afford in the area and recommended a consciencious mortgage broker. She drove us all over, getting to know East Bay neighborhoods, and exploring every option-- from Berkeley and Emeryville condos, to fixer-uppers, to short sales, to the great Oakland house we ended up with. She emailed lists of relevant open houses and was honest with us about the benefits and drawbacks of each house and neighborhood we saw. I always felt her advice was realistic and right for us as individuals. We never felt pressure from her to buy a house we didn't like or to bid out of our budget. We never felt rushed to make a decision. And yet, the housing market around here requires fast action and she was always poised and ready to move into gear when we were ready: she pushed paperwork through, getting our bids in on time, getting houses inspected. Anita was ready to do everything it took to help us win the house we wanted, but with her, somehow things always stayed sane. She was great during closing, which could have been a really stressful time. She went out of her way to protect us as the former tenant of the house slooowwwly moved out, as we lined up repair work that had to be done ASAP so we could we could stop paying rent on our apartment, etc. Anita made herself available for even small questions about things that seemed beyond her job description, even after we had closed and moved in. As other reviewers have said, she goes above and beyond, you can trust her, and she always has your back. Anita is a great choice! read more

Anita is AWESOME! My boyfriend and I moved to the Bay Area almost a year ago and knew we wanted to buy a house, but we just didn't know where. This is where Anita swooped in like a superhero to help us out. I found her based off the yelp reviews and I highly recommend her. Buying a house can be scary, but she broke it down into small bites and explained everything in the process. She is so on top of everything - every little detail doesn't pass her by. She drove us around through neighborhoods she thought we'd like (El Cerrito, Albany, Berkeley, North Oakland), telling us the local hotspots (she's so knowledgeable!). She would tell us if she thought a property was a good buy or a dud. I would often email her listings I would find online and she would find out the story with them or let us know if it was in a good/bad location within a few minutes/hours of sending the email - SUPER QUICK. She took all our needs into consideration (being close to public transit one with a large backyard and a moderate priced non-fixer), and found us the bestest house. Of course we had put bids on other houses and had been coming in 2nd. She would always tell us to put our best offer we can. She was great at motivating us to keep on trying too. And when it came time to bid on this house she was a trooper through our negotiation with the seller. And it finally happened. The house was listed at the top of our price range and we got the price down. We couldn't have done it without Anita's excellent help. We ended up buying a 2 bedroom/ 2 bath totally remodeled house in North Oakland (near the Berkeley boarder). We have super nice neighbors, near public transit, have a backyard for the dog and near some great local hot spots. Anita couldn't have done any better. Thanks ANITA!!! read more

When we started working with Anita we were first time home buyers, nervous about entering a tumultuous and competitive market. Anita kindly guided us through that process - educating us on the process, pointing us in the right direction, giving us incredibly good advice, and helping us land a fantastic deal. And in the years since that purchase, she always kept in touch. She referred us to several amazing contractors as we made improvements to the house. At every step of the way, Anita was amazing to work with...so amazing that we referred her to 4 friends who also successfully purchased homes with her. So when it came time to sell our home 6 years later we naturally reached out to Anita for her help. She was even better than before! She helped us prep our house for sale (including overseeing a kitchen remodel) and we ended up with a tremendous result. Her advice at every stage of the process was spot on. We could not imagine a better agent. read more

Anita helped us buy our Berkeley home eight years ago and when we moved to the midwest last year there was no one else we would ask to sell our home but Anita. She just simply knows the market - she knows what to do and not do to your house to encourage interest (and she manages all of that), she handles unexpected issues with ease, and she works miracles at the Open House showing your home. We simply had the best experience and an outcome we secretly hoped for but didn't dare say out loud, until we got it, thanks to Anita. read more

Having recently used Anita as my agent when I bought a house in Oakland, I can say that Anita is the idea agent. From the time I started my home search until the time she handed me the keys, Anita used her knowledge of the market and her hard work to help me buy the right property for me. If she said she would call an agent on my behalf, she called the agent. If she said she'd visit a property for me, she visited the property. And when it came time to talk about price, she was always spot on. Anita listened to what I was looking for and understood what would be right for me, which made her advice throughout the process invaluable. She also helped in so many other ways that I don't think I would have been able to buy my house without her. I highly recommend that you use Anita as your real estate agent. Anita Becker is amazing! She and her partner, Elizabeth McFarland, helped us sell our duplex in Oakland, and they made the process as smooth as possible from beginning to end. Always knowledgeable, always available and prompt to respond to questions, at every step of the way, they did everything within their power to make things easier on us and relieve our stress. They were also really flexible as we started out looking to put the place on the open market and ended up selling to the tenants. When we told people that we were selling to our tenants, many people would say "Oh, that's great you don't need a realtor." But we never regretted getting their help with this sale! Their expertise and help with every detail was well worth the commission (reduced to 4% to account for the situation). read more

We are so grateful to Anita Becker for helping us find the perfect home to fit our requirements and our budget. As we were not entirely certain about which neighborhood would work best for us, or even whether we wanted a house or a condo, we really appreciated her patience and thorough knowledge of the market. Anita saved us a great deal of time by helping us focus our search and we found a house we love in much less time than we had expected. She really listened to us, and we never felt she wasted time showing us places that did not interest us. As our landlords were eager to hurry us out of our rental home last year, Anita also provided us with valuable information about our rights as tenants that helped alleviate our anxiety and even get a great financial settlement from them. Having found a very desirable house in the Richmond Annex, her expertise in this competitive market helped us craft the perfect offer so that were were able to get ours accepted over 15 others. Anita has great integrity and really cares about her clients. She's conscientious, efficient, intelligent and so nice to work with that she even made the stressful process of home buying fun. We've recommended Anita to friends who have all found wonderful houses in a relatively short time. read more

We just bought our first home in South Berkeley with Anita as our agent. We had a great experience working with her, in fact, this was the first place we put an offer in on! Our offer was not the highest one made, so I credit Anita's good advice about contingencies, as well as her tough negotiating for the fact that we were sold this home! The sellers had a quick turnaround time and Anita stayed right on the ball with us and our lender, giving us reminders and updates every step of the way. And since it will have been vacant for almost two months when we finally move in next week, Anita even sent out her gardner to do some yard upkeep for us--very helpful. We had a great experience working with Anita and are grateful that we found her. read more

Three cheers (and five stars) for Anita!! She was recommended to me by wonderful realtors who helped me sell my previous house in SF (I highly recommend them also: Laura Kaufman and Nadia Ruimy at Zephyr in Noe Valley), so I figured Anita would also be great. When I started to house hunt in Alameda, I didn't hesitate to call Anita, and she certainly lived up to my high expectations. She is very straightforward and easy to deal with, friendly and professional. She knows her stuff--checked comps very carefully when I was interested in making an offer--and I GOT THE HOUSE, beating out 3 other offers (one of which was higher than mine). In fact, Anita seems to be on a roll, as (before I became her client) she had another client in Alameda who beat out about 19 other offers to score their new home. Another area where Anita proved highly knowledgeable is construction/repairs/remodeling. This was incredibly valueable to me as a buyer, as I myself am not handy, don't know much about remodeling and am single (so I don't have the benefit of a spouse with such knowledge). Anita really took the fear out of buying an older, character home for me, as she was able to explain to me the issues that turned up in the inspection, put them in perspective, talk to me about which ones were essential to do and which could probably wait, and handed me her own tried-and-true list of reputable contractors who could do the work. I have a high level of confidence in her contractor recommendations, as they are all guys/companies she personally has used or that her clients have used with excellent results. She got numerous bids from these folks for me--all while I was busy at work; I didn't even need to take time off. It was like being handed a "paint-by-numbers," step-by-step guide to making the improvements I wanted to make on my new home. In addition to this, my new home also includes a basement apartment currently occupied by renters, and Anita helped me get a business license and set up a rental agreement with the tenants. This went above and beyond what I'd expect a realtor to know or do. Further, Anita always kept in good contact, replied quickly to email/phone calls, and answered all my questions without dropping any balls (ha, and I asked a LOT of questions!). When my house closed escrow, she was very open to staying in touch and hearing how my repairs and remodels went, and I will certainly ask her to view my house once the work is done and tell me what it's worth. I've already told good friends of mine who plan to buy in the East Bay that they should call Anita first! read more
