Recently I found what I thought was an abandoned kitty. It was on a Saturday and someone answered the phone and helped me post information about this kitty. They also allowed me to buy a spay/neuter treatment for $25, which was a great deal. We found the cat's owners in a few days. It was already "fixed" so I gifted back the gift card to the vet who was so nice to honor it. This is a no-kill halfway house and I hope anyone considering a pet will utilize this society.

Although we have two dogs of our own and a new baby at home, we took the dog in, fed it, bathed it, and kept it safe inside overnight while trying to locate its owners. Unfortunately, the situation became very stressful for our household. Our smaller dog was extremely anxious, and our 62-pound rescue dog was also stressed and beginning to show signs of aggression toward the unfamiliar dog. After 24 hours of caring for the stray and being unable to locate its owners, I brought the dog to the Humane Society, hoping they could take over its care and help reunite it with its family or find a safe outcome. What disappointed me was not the mission of the Humane Society, but the way I was treated during the intake process. Rather than feeling supported after doing my best to help a lost animal, I felt pressured and judged for not being able to continue fostering the dog. The gentleman assisting me seemed frustrated with my situation, even as I explained the challenges we were facing with our own pets and the fact that we have a baby in the home. My family has supported the Humane Society over the years through donations and advocacy, which made this experience especially disheartening. I understand shelters are often overwhelmed and resources can be limited, but a little compassion and appreciation for community members who step up to help lost animals would go a long way. We did everything we could to care for this dog for the time it was with us, and I left feeling unappreciated for those efforts. I truly hope this feedback is taken constructively, as I still believe in the importance of the Humane Society's work. I simply wish the interaction had reflected the same compassion toward people that they strive to show animals.

When I first started going here one of my favorite things was how well the animals were cared for and how informative the staff was and how well they knew each animal. It seems like the workers now are only there for a pay check and have little to no concern for the animals well being or happiness.

Two days ago, she was in the yard which she fell, yelping in pain. Yesterday, she was lethargic which - if you have an Aussie - you know is wildly atypical. I thought the paralysis had taken its toll and we would have to put her down. Kathy made our appointment. She was empathetic and very helpful over the phone. When we arrived, the receptionist and the vet tech were each super nice and very professional. Dr. Gilson examined Tinkerbelle thoroughly. He explained the utility of each diagnostic and treatment option he recommended, and he quoted us the price. He found that she had fairly extensive osteoarthritis and recommended treatment. Our story had a happy ending because we arrived fearing it was time to euthanize and discovered our dog's problem was treatable. It's also a happy ending because, had it turned out it was time to let our dog go, I feel confident they would have handled that outcome with skill and compassion. Every interaction was excellent. We've had dogs for over 30 years, and we've had a range of experiences with veterinarians over the years. Retired, we now split time between Colorado and Alabama. When we are in Alabama, Dr. Gilson is our new vet and Theodore Veterinary Hospital is our new clinic.

It's a huge store but they have limited items…read more The customer service is not that friendly and they aren't very knowledgeable. They recommended a customer spend $54 on a flea collar and shampoo instead of topical application. The cashier who was helping the customer seemed bothered by the question. Now you know I wanted to jump in but nah, I was cool. So I don't like the store because the layout is like a maze. You are forced to ask for help to find stuff well not clothes. Maybe that's why the customer service is a little off, they're probably annoyed. But guess what, I had to ask. Geez I couldn't find what I needed. So two cashier's are behind the register, I ask for pill pockets and they just stare. Then finally of them showed me where they were, with smile. I'm checking out and the shampoo/flea collar cashier asked if I had a reward card. I said no and she say nothing.
