They took my dog back and deliberately shut the door when I was trying to see what they were doing. Once done she brings him back, the first words out of her mouth, "This is his first and last visit. He isn't welcomed back." What kind of grooming place can't deal with big dogs? I quickly apologized but she continued to tell me everything he did wrong. He scratched her arm... he needed his nails cut for a reason because he was scratching if he touched you. Overall I understand why they would not allow my dog but but the professionalism in that place is an absolute joke. You might as well be in high school, if you're not apart of the team you mean NOTHING. I will continually accept our part but the fact that I left crying because of the way a grown lady had just treated me. Grow up. Put a sign on the door that says only for small dogs. I have never in my life been treated like that. To put the cherry on the icing, they gave me my dog back and he smelled like fish food?! We have 2 dachshunds who have been coming for vaccines/annual wellness visits since they were about 6 weeks old and we have always opted out on vaccinating them for LEPTO, that is the "L" in the DHLPP combo vaccine. Both dachshunds always receive the DHPP vaccine ONLY, NO LEPTO. We made this decision due to one of our dachshunds having a severe reaction to the LEPTO vaccine a few years ago and going to anaphylactic shock and almost died. I make sure to make it known every single visit that we want all vaccines EXCEPT LEPTO and have told them every time in the past to put it on their records. This past Friday, I had to work so my husband took our dachshund Ollie for her annual wellness/vaccine appointment. When the vet tech came in, she was reading off all of the vaccines that Ollie was going to be receiving, however, included lepto so my husband told her that we did not want to vaccinate her for the lepto vaccine (as usual) and told her she has never gotten it before due to our other dachshund having such a severe (almost deadly) reaction. The vet tech told my husband that she is looking at Ollie's vet records and told him she has received it every single time in the past. My husband thought maybe he had gotten it confused and agreed because he TRUSTED the workers at the vet which was obviously a mistake. He called me on the way home telling me what happened so I pulled out Ollie's vet records from the past few years and looked to confirm she hasn't been receiving the Lepto vaccine. Every single document from each appointment stated "DHPP ONLY-NO LEPTO". While looking for the records, I had my mom call them to ask what amount of Benedryl needs to be given to her to help prevent any kind of severe reaction and they said they would call her back and let her know because they had to ask the pharmacy? After about 15-20 minutes of no call, I called another vet who we will be going to from now on and they immediately told me how much Benedryl to give her. Asheboro animal hospital never called and let my mom know an answer. After locating all of Ollie's records, I immediately called and spoke to someone at the front desk and when explaining the situation I was met with a rude attitude and was cut off in the middle of my sentence by her saying "I'm looking at her records right now and she has gotten the vaccine every year. I told her I was also looking at her records right now from every appointment she's ever had and stated that every single document says "DHPP ONLY-NO LEPTO" and explained that it should've been on her file. After placing me on hold, she came back and apologized and offer to refund us the $45ish dollars we paid for the vaccine and stated she would add the alert to her file as well as our other dachshund. We accepted the refund and appreciated it, but I feel as if we absolutely cannot trust this vet any longer because this could have been a deadly situation, especially if we didn't catch it and provide Benedryl immediately! I also did not appreciate the rude attitude I was met with when calling to tell them their mistake. And to top it off they never bothered to let us know how much Benedryl to give our dog to prevent a reaction from a mistake they made! We will be switching all 6 of our pets to Seagrove Animal Hospital who provided immediate and friendly care over the phone letting me know exactly how much Benedryl to give and what symptoms to lookout for and told me that if she has any kind of reaction to just stop by with her which I greatly appreciated. If you find a lost pet, do NOT take them to Southwoods!…read more I found a sweet dog late one night and immediately grew attached. Wanting to do the right thing, I had him scanned for a microchip at the nearest vet, Southwoods. He was chipped--and that's when things took a disappointing turn. The staff at Southwoods told me they were legally required to keep him, even though I offered to foster him until the owner was located. I gave them all my contact information and asked them to pass it along to the owner. I offered to keep the dog at my home in case the owner reached out. They refused and insisted he could not be returned to me. I later discovered that Guilford County Animal Services has a Stray to Foster Program, which encourages good Samaritans to foster found pets during the stray hold period--and they even offer support and supplies. I wish I had known that beforehand. Southwoods also claimed they would take the dog to the shelter the next day if the owner didn't come, and that I could possibly adopt him from the shelter after the hold period. In reality, they took him to the shelter the same day. Based on this experience and the misinformation I was given, I would not recommend taking found animals--or even your own pets--to Southwoods. Please consider going directly to the Guilford County Animal Shelter or following their Stray to Foster guidelines if you find a lost pet.

When I lost Olive, I also lost many friends. Due to travel and health issues, I no longer have pets, but hope to (God willing) sometime in the future. I am amazed that anyone would have a negative review about Northwood. They were always up front with me about treatment, medication, etc. They fit Olive in whenever needed, and even gave us a break on certain treatments. They were fair and honest. Instead, we came home without our dog. Before the procedure, my husband specifically expressed that he did not want to leave until Willow was under anesthesia. We were told that she was asleep, so we left believing she was safely under and being cared for. Less than 15 minutes later, my husband received the call that Willow was gone. During the procedure, we were informed that Willow experienced serious breathing difficulties and that her condition rapidly deteriorated. What has made this experience even more upsetting is everything we learned afterward. Based on conversations and information provided to us, I was left with serious and deeply troubling questions about how Willow's emergency was handled, including the airway difficulties, the timing of anesthesia, and the response when her condition became critical. The more information we received, the harder it became to understand how a dog who went in for a small tumor removal never came home. As Willow's family, we trusted this hospital with her life. That trust was shattered. One interaction that particularly stayed with us was being asked multiple times whether we planned to sue. In the middle of grieving and trying to understand what had happened to Willow, that question felt deeply upsetting and inappropriate to us. Rather than helping answer the questions we had about our dog's death, we were left feeling even more uncomfortable and unsettled by the conversation. I am sharing my personal experience and the information that was communicated to me. I cannot speak to anyone's intentions, but I can say that I have serious concerns about the care Willow received and the way the emergency was handled. What was equally heartbreaking was the lack of compassion we felt surrounding the loss of our dog. Losing a pet unexpectedly during a procedure is traumatic enough. Feeling like you are left with unanswered questions afterward makes it even worse. I would never trust Northwood Animal Hospital with one of my animals again. Every pet owner has to make their own decision, but I strongly encourage anyone considering this hospital to ask detailed questions about surgical procedures, anesthesia, emergency protocols, and exactly how complications are handled. Willow was not just a patient or a procedure on a schedule. She was our family. My husband specifically asked not to leave until she was safely asleep. We were told she was.
