Two veterinarian names kept popping up on my list - Dr. Jennifer Patton and Dr. Alissa Huckabay. I made Dexter's appointment with the first available of the two - Dr. Patton. Holistic care is very important to me, Dr. Patton listened to all my concerns and was receptive and understanding of my requests. And she was phenomenal with my little guy, Dexter. She discovered that he needed a dental procedure so after his blood work came back good, we got him scheduled for a dental cleaning with Dr. Huckabay. I was pleased that I'd get to experience the top two vets on my list! Dexter is barely 5lbs (he's also my whole heart), so any type of procedure is enough to send me into a full panic. Every single one of the team members at Advanced Care Veterinary Hospital were not only patient with me and my over-the-top behavior, but they were also very kind and understanding. They allowed me to wait in a room during the procedure and even brought him to me so I could hold him during his recovery. Dr. Huckabay and her vet assistant, Abbi were both extremely detailed in their explanation of what Dex needed and what they did during the procedure. Abbi was empathetic, answered all my questions and addressed all my concerns post-surgery. And every single person at the front desk area that day were phenomenal. I feel that the service we received proves that Advanced Care is practicing at the highest standard in the field and truly offer expert specialty vet care services. Dex couldn't have gotten better care anywhere else, and I couldn't have either.

We moved to Tulsa in December '23, with a 6 year old, Czech import German Shepherd that we'd had for a few months. She had been used for breeding, required a C-section, and was no longer useful to the breeder. As a rescue, the breeder was familiar with us (we own her daughter), so he contacted us and surrendered her to us. We had her thoroughly vetted when she arrived in Oklahoma. After a few weeks in our home we contacted our trainer and got her into training as soon as possible. She was sweet and a good member of our pack, but largely unsocialized. When we brought her home it was time to address the last step in preparing her for her new life in our home, having her spayed. We made an appointment with Dr Thomas. After anesthetizing her the doctor tried to call us to tell us that she had a spay scar. When we called him back we discussed the c-section scar and decided to wait a week or so and start over. When we picked her up we found that while he had her anesthetized, he decided to perform surgery on her eyelid for some small defect I had not even noticed and we had not approved. I wish I had seen the red flag. Two weeks later we dropped her off to be spayed. We called to see if she was ready to be picked up and were told to wait until five. I walked over to pick her up a little before five and immediately noticed that she looked unstable. Her gums were pale and I asked if I should run her to Oklahoma Veterinary Specialists. Dr Thomas said no, took her back into his office and started IV fluids. After wasting what turned out to be the last 30 minutes I had to save her, he sent us home with a vet tech carrying the IV bag. I helped the still unstable dog. When we got to the door the vet tech gave me the IV bag and we've never heard from them again. After observing her for a couple of minutes I put her in the car and raced to OVS, calling to let them know the situation and that we were headed their way. Dr Hodges, who has helped us many times in emergencies, stayed and waited for us, rushing us in when we arrived. He worked on her for another 30 minutes. She coded twice and was unable to be revived a second time. She died of blood loss from internal bleeding. Dr.Thomas or his office never called to see how she was. We filed a complaint with the State Board. Imagine the State Board of Veterinary Medicine being unresponsive in the State of Oklahoma. Would you expect anything else? If you love your pet, stay away from Dr Chet Thomas and City Veterinary Hospital at 36th and Peoria. I wish we had. We obviously live close by and every time I see that building I feel sad and angry all over again.

The exam was efficient and thorough with an exchange of good information whereby an estimate of charges was provided offering a discount for scheduling the procedure during the next two weeks. I was promised "out same day" and the final bill had no surprises or up charges. Those are the good things they did. Let me tell the other things they did not do . . . that were also good! This same canine was seen by another clinic a few months prior for the same stated problem, "teeth." However, the mid-town Tulsa clinic insisted on a series of "panels . . . xrays . . . tests" with a corresponding estimate of $1,140. Included was a liver panel and kidney panel that was "required" before they can properly assess the dental problem. No extractions were quoted in the estimate - just tests required for assessment. And this was offered after a very cursory and almost non-existent glance at the mouth. I like Dr. Metcalf and her staff and plan to go back for non-essential exams and well checks because I don't feel the need to sign over the titles to my real property for unnecessary churning of fees.

I made an appointment for all our animals as a new patient and they took all of the information I had for all three over the phone. appointment time came around and they had no idea who we were and were going to send us away until I showed them the confirmation for the appointment. they did not have my email for the animals history which I made vital that they were aware of. I asked the dr if he looked at the history that was provided to which he said yes. come to find out that it was only for one not the other one. I provided this information twice and it still wasn't considered. I made it clear before the appointment that I did not want any shots to be done early and since no one bothered to review one of my babies history then they did. it doesn't hurt them no, but I painstakingly for years offset their shots little by little to ensure it was spread out for financial reason. and all that effort was taken away due to squeezing us in from an office failure and failing to review the history and requests of me urging them to only give shots that are currently due. now they are on the same shot schedule bc one was given shots they didn't need several months sooner than what was needed. 2/10

They became our favorite vet, hands down. Dr. Murray is kind, compassionate, thorough, knowledgeable, and so very friendly. Molly had an ear infection that just evaded diagnosis. Dr. Murray suggested that we send a sample to an outside lab. While that cost a little bit, it resulted in a specific diagnosis and treatment plan that kicked the infection immediately thereafter. More recently, Molly developed a bladder issue which we tried to treat for several months without success. Dr. Murray never pushed us to do anything, but was reasonable and explanatory all the way. She had a growth in her bladder which was not shrinking despite a few different treatment approaches, and at over 13 years old, we weren't going to subject her to surgery. When the very sad day came to evaluate end of life, Dr. Murray was out, and Dr. Webb guided us through the process - again with absolutely no pressure either direction. It's impossible to imagine anyone being more compassionate or understanding at such a difficult time. We don't have enough good things to say about her, as well as their vet tech (also Molly) that day. My wife and I still miss our little pup Molly (me especially). After it was over, Good Shepherd sent the nicest sympathy card signed by all their staff, along with two little sheets of paper with our Molly's front paw prints on them. What a beautiful thing to do. This review would not be complete without mention of the financial side. Veterinary medicine these days is not cheap! But Good Shepherd was very reasonable at all times. The cost of any extra check and the external labs was always made known to us beforehand. And Dr. Murray even called around to find the lowest cost option for a couple of medications! I believe their charges were more reasonable than any vet we've used before them. I notice their office has 5.0 stars on Google, for 33 ratings. There's a reason for that! I cannot recommend them highly enough.
