    Poor pup after surgery
    Carol L.

Anicira truly saved me and my pup! An unexpected accident had me having to shop around for her care when she broke her leg. I was so thankful to have a low cost care option because her surgery was going to be cost prohibitive! The staff and docs put me at ease about her treatment plan and I never once felt rushed or misguided. I love that they have clear guidelines about everything it seems and the office is like a well oiled machine where everyone seems to be not only happy doing their bit, but the best at their jobs! I only wish I lived closer than an hour away but it's 100% worth driving out to!

Maple sleeping with her Cone on after her spay.

I really appreciate the upfront and reasonable pricing, the great communication, and the excellent care my dog received during her spay. Thank you for making the whole experience smooth and stress-free!

I love this Vet clinic and truly wish it was closer! Back in November I rescued a puppy from Hart90. The adoption agency "Hart90" partners with Anicira to have their rescue's spayed/neutered. The rescue also requires pets to be fixed early on. I had every hesitation about fixing my four month old puppy. BUT this place was efficient and put my worries at ease. Even a short period after, the incision looked off to me so I sent in an email. They corresponded with me over email, allowing me to send photos. Again, saving me from a trip out there and worrying. I am beyond grateful for everything Anicira did for me and my pet. Highly recommend.

Zoey pug, happy customer of Anicira.

Is Anicira a primary care vet as well as a surgical center or is it acute care only? Their website isn't quite clear on this.

She had been living in a neighbor's garage and was in rough shape - malnourished, fleas, worms and ear mites. This was the only vet that could see us immediately and I'm so glad we ended up here. They are tremendously kind and compassionate. When the kitten escaped and climbed up inside the car seat (a long story) they came out to help get her out. Loaned us a carrier. Really just have consistently gone above and beyond. We have been clients ever since and would not consider taking our fur babies anywhere else. This visit was for our older cat who had a cut above her eye. Doc had her diagnosed in less than 5 minutes (ear infection and she scratched herself trying to make it feel better) noticed she also had some gum issues, got us all set up with antibiotics and ear drops and we were finished in under half an hour. Perfect when you have to fit a vet visit into your lunch hour. The place is super clean and we've never felt overcharged. Bottom line, if you're looking for a vet that really cares this is where you want to go.

You want to spend thousands of dollars and have your dog die in the end? This is the place for you…read more You will bring your 19 month old puppy to the internal medicine department with chronic diarrhea and vomiting because her normal vet referred her to a specialist. The specialist will say "Change her diet" even though you will have told him that you've already done that multiple times. You'll follow his instructions and see no changes in your dog. She begins to lose weight even though she is eating. You will go back, your dog will still have diarrhea and vomiting, and he'll suggest doing an ultrasound. You get the ultrasound done, and he'll say he's found "abnormalities" and then suggest "changing her diet" instead of trying to treat the abnormalities, and if we really want to find out wrong, she'll need an endoscopy procedure. So, you'll change her diet again, see no changes other than increasingly concerning weight loss, and spend multiple thousands of dollars for the specialist to perform the procedure. Your dog will be under anesthesia for several hours while he obtains 20-30 biopsy samples. The results come back a week later and the specialist will point out further abnormalities and stomach ulcers, and suggest you "change her diet" instead of treating the problems. Three months will go by and your once vibrant, healthy 50 pound dog will now be a walking skeleton, losing roughly 20-25 lbs. You've done everything in your power to save her life. She will stop eating and drinking water altogether for 4 straight days and become unresponsive at times, spending her days laying helplessly on a bed, with no energy do move at all. Her body temperature will noticeably drop, even though the room is at 75* and she's under a blanket. She will struggle to climb stairs or hop down from the couch, when she does decide to move. You see her suffering and on CHRISTMAS MORNING you will make the painful decision to end that suffering. You will bring her to MedVet, where she has already been seen for 3 months, including an ER visit, where they suggested hospitalization and an estimate for services which she has already recently had done, instead of an IV or any real treatment, and the vet tech will come in with a cone, because she is scared a dog with no energy will bite her. That vet tech will then, with all the compassion and empathy in the world, pull your dog by her neck, trying to drag her to the back, so, apparently, the doctor can look at her. 10-15 minutes will go by and nothing will be discussed with you as to what's going on. Then, the American Hero, who was an Army vet will come into the room and tell you you have have beautiful Belgian Malinois and say that she used to treat them while she was in the Army, and even though yours is severely emaciated, and has IBD, she will not euthanize her. If we want, however, we can surrender her. No one will ask why you are there with your beloved family member on Christmas morning, trying to end her suffering. They will just assume you are a piece of garbage who does not want to take care of a sick dog. You will leave and endure watching your dog suffer another two days before her normal vet clinic reopens. So, after nearly $7000 of credit card debt from procedures performed by the specialist, and visits to the ER and clinic, and prescription medications with very little instructions, in order to try and save my dog's life, all I have to show from it is a lifetime of pain, many years of payments, and a little cedar box that contains the ashes of my beloved dog. This place does not care about you, or your dog. They care about your wallet, and trying to obtain every dollar that's in it, at all cost. I love you, Coraline, and I'm sorry I took you here.

A lot of places just didn't show much compassion. I walked in nervous, but this visit was completely different. They brought us straight back to a room so Luna wouldn't get overwhelmed. The receptionist with the side-shave and glasses was unbelievably kind and even checked me out right in the exam room so Luna didn't have to go back through the lobby. They were amazing and so thoughtful. They're super organized too. They gave me typed notes that were actually helpful and clear. And Dr. Mayo was incredible and literally sat on the floor with me and Luna for about 45 minutes, just letting her warm up and taking everything at her pace. I've never experienced that level of patience at a vet. Maritza, the vet tech, was also so gentle and calm with her. I walked out feeling relieved and genuinely thankful. The whole team was kind, compassionate, and clearly cared about Luna's comfort. If you're in the Manassas area, I highly recommend Pender Vet.

My experience has been more like an old fashioned vet practice than a corporate vet practice. I have so many good things to say I don't know where to start. I drive my 3 screaming cats 30 minutes to see dr. Mayo. Here is why - She doesn't over schedule her appointment so she takes time with pets and their people. I don't have to wait. She actually explains things to the lay person so you understand what is going on with your pet and what her plan of treatment is. We had a complex problem with my cat And she came out to my car to chat, making even a covid experience very personable. She makes recommendations that are useful. She is obviously up to date on the latest studies and vet science and applies the knowledge in her practice. She is very experienced and really knows cats, I assume dogs as welI. She is also compassionate and gentle with pets, and their people. This is really important too, as I lost a pet. She knew things were bad and went out of her way to call me later in the evening with test results so I wouldn't have to wait until the next day. That is all part of a very high level of communication with owners. The staff is great too. Informed, professional and accurate. The vet techs have been great, displaying the characteristics that live up to Mayo's standards. I believe Dr. Mayo runs the place, and she does so well. This is the vet to go to. I hope as they get busier things don't change.

Responding to the business owner's response: 1. I primarily…read moreasked for an annual checkup as my dog has diarrhea every couple of months and that's normal for him. Despite that info, your team made a strong case about selling prescription treatment and you admitted to me verbally that your technicians didn't communicate that and weren't well trained. 2. When the technician lady I spoke with yesterday kept on cutting me off and saying that I was the one who rejected the heartworm test because your hospital "always" does things right, yes I got frustrated. I told her I was going to hang up and that I would find another hospital because I didn't want to continue being talked over and gaslighted. In my perspective, a proper response from your team would have been "I am surprised to hear that wasn't relayed to you. There must have been a mistake." And not "Our hospital always asks the owner so it must have been you who rejected it" esp when she couldn't find any records 3. Lastly it is my bad for assuming that the technician was the doc's wife. I am truly sorry for that. Being Korean myself and supporting a lot of Korean establishments in NOVA, I see a lot of husband-wife businesses. That lady's demeanor said she didn't care about losing my business at all so I assumed she was related to the owner. I am sorry as it was a cultural misguided assumption. Since you say that you are hoping to improve, my sincere feedback for your hospital is below: 1.) Please take some time to improve on empathy and customer service. Take a moment to listen to the customer. Please refrain from being defensive, cutting people off, arguing back, etc. I have never in my 20+ years in NOVA have come across an establishment where I felt the communication was this difficult. 2.) Kindly take the time to talk with patients & train your technicians on products they are selling, on customer service, on promoting clear/transparent processes. Yes you treat animals. But you are the main communicators with those pets' owners. Does a doctor at the hospital only checks up on the patients and prescribes treatment? No - they talk with family members, clearly explaining and assuring of what they are going to do and train their nurses to best assist with the treatment. That is part of the job and is a huge part of patient care. I have a right to my experiences and to share my perspective as do you. Please don't accuse my experience as being slanderous and unfactual. Obviously there was a lot of miscommunication but maybe that in itself can be a starting place for you to reflect on how to best mitigate those problems in the future. I wish you and your business best of luck. ---- It's not worth the stress, people. Please don't be swayed by the prices & look elsewhere. Three main reasons why I'm taking my dog elsewhere - Unclear Practice/Process, Poor Communication, Aggressive Attitude toward customers. A couple of weeks ago, I brought my dog in for an annual checkup. He was having diarrhea but I wasn't too worried as it happens occasionally, but since my dog's annual checkup was due in a month or so, I thought why not bring him in early just to check? I relayed this as I checked my dog in. Then a headache ensued with their technicians trying to sell my husband this comprehensive treatment plan to my dog. I was so confused - how could there be a treatment plan when the results of the bloodwork wasn't even out? When I went to pick up my dog, I told the doc - I get all the other shots you're giving my dog, but "what's the difference between getting my dog prescription food vs. feeding him a bland diet for his diarrhea?" And the doc said, "you don't have to cook." ...I was baffled. There was a miscommunication, a large part of it was due to undertrained technicians which the doc admitted to, and yet he had a standoff with me for 30 minutes. Whatever, I just wanted to take my dog home. THEN, a couple weeks later today, I was ordering heartworm medicine through Chewy and they declined it. I call the hospital and this Korean lady whom I assumed to be his wife based on how she was asserting herself, tells me that my dog didn't get his annual heartworm test. I asked her why then didn't they tell me when I went in for a checkup and then she aggressively argued that she's sure that someone must have told me. She looked in my records, but there was no record of me saying I declined the heartworm test, because I didn't. Yelp-fam, I told you the facts. You decide if the headache is worth it. Prices are great. But if you're anything like me and want the absolute best care for my dog and be treated in a professional/kind way, then pay a bit extra to get care elsewhere. Walk away. Also, DM me your favorite vets in NOVA. Looking for a new one for my fur-best friend.

I was not informed when the decision was finally made to euthanize her. I had to find out from someone else. I was promised the opportunity to be involved, to ask questions, and to be present for the discussion and goodbye. Instead, I was forced to watch over FaceTime while Dr. Murphy and my mother repeatedly left the room to discuss matters without me. When I tried to ask if they could wait so I could be included, I was talked over and told they would proceed anyway. The rest of my family was given notice and allowed to be present. I was intentionally excluded from my own dog's final moments. Regardless of circumstances, the lack of empathy, communication, and basic compassion shown to someone grieving the loss of a deeply bonded animal was devastating. This experience caused immense emotional harm, and I would never recommend this practice to friends or loved ones. Paisley deserved better. So did I. Edit: I also find it concerning that this practice appears to ask clients to edit older reviews, which has the effect of burying negative feedback. That feels inappropriate and raises serious concerns about transparency.
