The office was closed so we were told to drive to the Janesville emergency vet. Over the course of the 30 minute drive all of our dog's "insides" came out of the incision. She was literally gutted alive while our 6 year old daughter was in the vehicle. We ultimately lost our dog that evening- an event the emergency vet states is "rare". The dr that performed the surgery called the next day, and asked my wife if we stepped on our dog while basically stating he did nothing wrong. The entire incident was tragic and awful but we believed it was a "fluke"- something that was rare but could happen, we guessed- and we left it alone- we just wanted to emotionally heal and focus on ensuring our daughter was ok after everything. Fast forward several months later- another owner has the exact same thing happen to her dog after being sprayed by the SAME Dr at this clinic. 3 days after being spayed, while laying on the couch- her sutures failed also- and the rest of their story, unfortunately, is the same as ours. We tried to speak with the "Head Vet" at the clinic with regards to our concerns- he refuses to call back. He spoke with the owner of the 2nd dog this happened to and essentially told them "good luck proving we did anything wrong." Their stance is that because this dr has done many surgeries he couldn't possibly have made mistakes. They will not even consider there is a problem, much less even call us back to discuss our concerns. Go somewhere else- please- this was the most horrific thing we have ever experienced. We know it has happened to at least 2 dogs- We do not currently know if there are others out there as well thinking it was something "rare" and not saying anything. We've pulled all of our pets from this clinic. At this point we will be seeking further assistance in this matter but for the immediate time- please, go elsewhere.

The clinic overcharged and did unneeded procedures to my dog and not telling me about additional charges until after they were done. The Animal Clinic of Elkhorn is 100% different. Their reasonable prices, their devotion and care of my pets, and their friendly staff just blows the competition away. It is nice to go to a veterinarian that generally cares for your animals and works with you to provide the best care that you can for your animal. The only thing I wish is that they took care of birds as well. Maybe in the future. If you want to good vet, good service and affordable price this is the place to go. I have never had any up selling on products, only recommendations when I asked. They don't ever seem to do unneeded procedures, labs or testing unless it's needed... And they ask first before they do them. Your pets are not a dollar to them they actually care about their well-being. I'm very happy with this clinic.

I thought they were there to help animals and took the profession to save animals!!!! They couldn't stay open or around for another half hour to help my dog!!!! What kind of people are they when they say that they are there to help you and your animals. I would have been charged twice and hundreds of dollars for them to tell me I had to go somewhere else because they were closing.

My wife and I began our search for a new GSD following the passing of ours several months back. The…read moreloss of this last shepherd (it was our second) was especially painful as we don't have kids and the dog was a true family member to us. In the course of our extensive research to find that special dog, we spent literally weeks on the internet studying dog bloodlines and titles, calling many breeders nationwide, and even driving significant distances in our state (Texas) to visit numerous kennels where we viewed many litters and pups for sale. Backyard breeders were excluded from our consideration. While there were definitely some good kennels out there, they often felt like dog-manufacturing plants and not the unique quality we were looking for. Our search finally ended when we came across Vom Ragnar kennels. The experience we had with Von Ragnar was much different than the other breeders we had talked to or met. The best way to describe them is as a high-end boutique breeder, very specialized, and the bloodlines were not the same ten dogs that seemed to permeate the dogs of all the other breeders. There's a saying that one pays for a good breeder not just a good dog, and indeed here this was the case. Vom Ragnar is owned and run by Natalya Babenko and her husband Jey. From the start, Natalya proved to have substantial expertise in breeding and a passion for working with and showing her dogs (both nationally and internationally). It would not be an exaggeration to call her a perfectionist--and was evident from both discussions with her, and seeing her new state-of-the-art kennel. Her breeding dogs are of the finest quality; once you meet Natalya it's apparent that there is no way she would settle for less. In dealing with her/Vom Ragnar, everything from start to finish was done honestly and with integrity. Yes, Vom Ragnar is more expensive than the typical "good" kennel (not over-the-top more), and to us, the extra expense for acquiring a dog of the quality they were offering was well worth it. The dog we chose was a red-sable male; they had two available, made videos of both, and Natalya helped us make a final choice within a week. After purchasing the pup (you must do so when locking in your choice), Jey made a second video to show the pup playing and update his looks and progress. We set a date for pick-up right after the puppy turned 8 weeks, flew from Houston to Chicago, and drove up to the kennel to pick up the dog. Everything in the final pick-up and transaction was very friendly and all went smoothly. The dog was up-to-date on the necessary shots and was microchipped prior to our departure. As of this writing, we have owned the puppy for 5 days. We had it checked with our vet who found the dog fully healthy. The puppy was all "go" from the time we got him home, displays significant confidence, and while calm to loud noises (like thunder), has a very high energy level and is very outgoing. He is not timid or shy in any respect. The puppy shows us a ton of affection, displays high intelligence, and has a real interest in learning. To be clear, he's not an "angel" and will definitely take some real effort to train properly, but that is exactly how good GSDs are. Our overall feeling is this dog is of exceptional quality, and going through the effort to fly 1,000 miles to buy one from Vom Ragnar was well worth the time and money. If we were going to buy another (and we may get a female in a few years) we would absolutely buy another from them again without hesitation or reservation. Getting an extra-special pet to fill the paws of our last GSD meant so much to us, and Vom Ragnar really came through. We are very grateful to have chosen them as the breeder of our new dog!

She expressly said the parents were clear for DCM . She showed test results, but omitted one test showing her female carries DCM. Looking back I can see that she is shady and morally unethical. She represented herself as an experienced breeder when in reality this was her only litter. When I contacted her to discuss, She avoided me and had her husband call me. He was not only unprofessional but incredibly rude and very ignorant on how DCM is passed down . I couldn't actually have a mature conversation . He'd ask me a question and when I'd try to answer, he'd just yell at me and talk over me. So now they're going to be dealing with my attorney as I am suing them for fraud. Please avoid this breeder. I can recommend several who are ethical. And if you need to know what questions to ask when screening a breeder, I'd be happy to help. I just don't want her to do this to anyone else.

Our puppy is intelligent, happy, and healthy. Most importantly, she has a wonderful temperament and is so wonderful when interacting with people and other dogs. This is a true testament to the wonderful socializing that is done with puppies at Mittelwest before they are given to their new homes. We are constantly stopped and told just how beautiful our puppy is as well. Lastly, Julie has been great to deal with and very responsive to all questions we have had along the way.
