They are dedicated to helping kids learn water safety awareness, building confidence and independence, improving swimming technique and endurance, all while encouraging kids to have fun and truly enjoy the water. My daughter had teacher John for almost 2 years before seeing a different teacher. - program director is very receptive of comments. Example: one new teacher talked a lot in the beginning to the point the kids were no longer listening. Explained the situation to the program director and the following week, there was improvement. Short instructions, kids listened well, and ample swim time. My daughter would've stayed with Orca if it weren't for the fact that she wanted to join a swim team and needed that next-level program to improve her endurance and skill set. Wave aquatic classes are what brought our family to the pool. The classes are OK but the registration process has become a nightmare. They recently changed it so you have to register every month. They're expecting people to stay up until midnight to register or just be SOL the next morning. Each session we have had to change my daughter's class day as it keeps getting taken by another student. This process is absurd and really irritating after waiting months and months just to be able to take lessons. Now we finally get our turn but we're being kicked out of our class each session and have to pick a different time which is not convenient. It is also stressful on parents to have to remember a date every single month. It's not working well. Were there a better place in the community to take lessons I would take my child there. But Kirkland is sorely lacking in any decent aquatic facilities, or enough swim lessons at places that are in the area. For a waterside town I find this totally unacceptable. The pool is underheated and my kids complain that it's too cold. I know it is not just mine complaining about it because I've had other friends and neighbors have the same complaint. At the bare minimum, stop propping the door to the outside and the door to the pool deck open in the winter! It's way too cold for that. The wave aquatic staff should know better than this. I can understand people not wanting to support a proposition for a brand new swimming pool because that is expensive. But at the very least the community needs to invest in this pool. This pool is a joke. Ceiling tiles are missing/chipped, making it appear unsafe to be in the pool. The showers are one scalding jet of water rather than an actual shower. So the kids get out of this freezing pool and then go to the shower only to be met with one scalding jet of water so they can't even warm up! It's ridiculous and so frustrating. Wave lifeguards spend their time chatting with others, NOT paying attention to swimmers. It's infuriating.

I was out of shape and, to put it mildly, terrified. They partnered me with a trainer (Valerie) who has experience working with people trying to get in shape and not as young as they used to be - not to mention vast reserves of patience, such that I never felt pressured, and the skill to modify exercises as we went along to accommodate my issues (trick knee!) and ability level (at first, zero). I worked my way up gradually and it was amazing how quickly I improved! I started to enjoy my time at the gym and look forward to my time working out on the exercise bikes, circuit, and so on. Then COVID-19 hit (booooooo!). I was shocked at how much I missed going to the gym. At the same time, I was Impressed with the way the owners handled communication with members, and made the effort to keep staff employed - and likewise, the way so many members volunteered to continue paying dues for a facility they couldn't use, so that staff could continue to be paid. It speaks volumes about how much Columbia really is a community. I'm finally back, two mornings a week with a trainer. I look forward to the next Phase of reopening, when I can hopefully get back to the gym more frequently.

For example, on 9/21/26, a morning lifeguard at Kirkland who multiple times engaged me in inappropriate and lengthy discussions of her personal life, proceeded to tell me that her main job is "breaking up fights" between members over priority regarding lap lane placement in the pool. The lifeguard further informed me that her biggest problem is "a lady," and that her problematic older members are difficult because they "don't get enough sleep." She also laughed at an older member that day who twice had to return over forgotten items. The lifeguard additionally told me that her Aquatics Supervisor gets upset on nice days for some reason because "everyone uses the outdoor pool" at Silver Lake. She recited him in mocking tone of the way he talks. When I just visited the Pine Lake Club a member in the sauna volunteered how unprofessional and lazy the employees are actually within the context of us talking about the one employee at any of the three Columbia clubs--at least front desk employees--whom we considered impressive, an older lady who works early mornings at Pine Lake. Along those lines, a lifeguard at Silver Lake explained to me that she was pumping lots of water into the hot tub because the hot tub loses water and her fellow employees "don't do their job." Mind you too, everything I describe occurred in less than two weeks of my initial membership. The member in the sauna at Pine Lake for whom I was speaking, a longer term member with a family also members, further bemoaned that the Pro Club has not opened a facility on the Sammamish Plateau because of how old and unkept the Columbia facilities have become. We commented on a very visibly ripped coach in the Pine Lake lobby and all the rust above ground in the pool area. The golf facility staff at Silver Lake proceeded to tell me that the clubs they have to rent out are in poor condition. Overall, at Columbia you distinctly get the impression that the second generation of family owners now in charge simply are milking the facilities for what can be extracted. I also found the behavior of one marginally older female employee at Juanita to make me uncomfortable with regard to her overt friendliness, to put it mildly. In fact, there also is other employee behavior that has caused me to question whether the highest level of on-site club management may have employees for whom they are especially connected, to put it one way.

"Ugh, I have to disinfect that now! Hrrmmmpph". Yeah, ya do - so what. It's your job? If you don't want kids touching toys, don't run a class for kids. That's 90% of what they do. And management was real good at screwing up our schedule by giving half of our time slot away. Thanks, my kid knows how to half swim now! We have been coming to this facility for five months (8yo & 14yo) and have seen very little progress. 1. Low Value and Inexperienced Staff: Paying $150 per month for short 15-minute lessons is far too expensive for the quality of service provided. The instructors do not appear experienced, and the short duration is simply not enough time for real skill development. 2. Constant Instructor Turnover Disrupts Learning: We experience frequent instructor changes, sometimes on a weekly basis. Because of this high turnover, the children struggle to get comfortable and have a difficult time adjusting to different teaching styles. This constant switching causes children to struggle with basic instructions and slows down their learning pace immensely. It feels like focus is on cycling through as many students as possible, rather than focusing on actual student progress and ensuring the kids get enough quality instruction. 3. Dismissive Management: My interactions with Daniel, the owner, were the most disappointing part of our overall experience. When I approached him for a conversation, his demeanor was dismissive and disrespectful. Instead of listening to a customer, he used his authority as the owner to shut down the dialogue entirely.

The woman who we learned was Kaylie was standing around on her phone that whole time until she came over and started the lesson late. We filled out your intake forms sharing information about swimming background and goals, but it didn't seem like Kaylie read them, so we rushed to share experience and goals while the student was getting in the water. The lesson itself didn't cover anything new for the student. Kaylie then rushed to end the lesson on time, despite starting over a few minutes late, which is significant for a single 15 minute lesson. The student didn't learn anything and was rushed out of the pool. We understand it was our first time, but feeling stressed about our lesson was starting late and getting shorter than the 15 minutes we paid for was very frustrating. We had similar negative experiences on subsequent attempts to give this place a shot. Do not recommend, especially not Kaylie McRea.

You will have club access until February 25, 2025." This was the best case scenario result. The inability to cancel in person or by phone or online and having to wait to see if the 'cancel' email worked keeps my review from being five stars. Still feels like playing games with the customer: not even able to guarantee that I am canceled when I show up in person with the request. The gym was reasonably priced and good value for the monthly payment, so 4 stars overall.

This problem has gotten so bad and some members have no respect at all and the gym is allowing it. It's the top management and the owner responsibility to put an end to this garbage. Also the gym does not carry any of Golds nice workout clothings. The shelves are empty ???? While most members are very respectful to the gym rules there are the few that can care less by constantly being on the phone and many times on the speakers too screaming loudly . No other gym tolerates this. One good note is that the gym is always clean and theatrics in charge of cleaning does an amazing work. I am hoping the owner will do something about the phone issue soon.
