We have done Snowmobiling with this group before, but this year was really bad and I wouldn't normally write something negative with just one instance, but feel that they did not handle the situation very well. We were on a snowmobiling tour with them and were in the large area they call the "playground" there were 7 Snowmobils, 2 of them wanted to go faster than the other 5 so one of the guides left with the 2 and left the remaining 5 with the other guide. Which we were ok with, but then while at the playground one of our snowmobilers decided to "try" going over a hill and was successful, but when she came down she wasn't able to head back towards where the remaining group had gathered. So she went down a path, following their instructions, in hopes of being able to turn around but could not. I told our guide that she was lost, she said "no she went with the other group", I told him "no, we had just had a conversation before she left about did she want to go with them, and she said no", I told him that she had made a statement about going up this particular hill, so he went over there didn't see anything, looked very minimally came back to the remaining 4 and said we have to head back down the mountain. I protested and said, can't you call the other Guide and see if she's with them, he told me "NO", even though we were told that they carry walkie talkies and cell phones. So we got back down to the bottom, and no friend and the other group wasn't there either. About 20 mins. later my friend shows up, crying, because she was lost and she had stopped on that trail as it was the trail we went up on and really thought we'd go down the same way, but when she realized we wouldn't she decided she better just try. What was so shocking was that when she got there her machine was spitting and spewing as it was on empty (found out later that our Daughter's machine was also on empty) and the fact that the guide said that he would have never thought to check the path we went up on. Thank god the second group didn't show up before she did, or we'd really been upset.
True the friend probably should have stopped when she realized she couldn't turn around to us so that we could have at least seen us. But the fact that they brag about their safety and that they have walkie talkies and cell phones, which do them no good if they don't use them and the fact that when we came back and told them what happened, the person there was very upset but the owner said you signed a waver, so we're not going to give you any kind of refund is very disturbing. It is completely unacceptable that 1) they sent us out on those machines with less than a full tank of gas, 2) that they were so lackadaisical about the lost person, and 3) they didn't use or communicate the issue with the other guide or the management.
Anyway, we won't use them again! read more
