One of the best comedy clubs in London. The open mic night I went to was really fun too.

A group of friends and I had a terribly disappointing experience at this bar…read more PROS: The comedy show was pretty good. CONS: The drinks were absolutely awful, the venue itself is crammed and old. ***We could have overlooked the cons and had a lovely evening, however, one of the staff members, a stout woman in her 40s with short blonde hair, was so incredibly and uneccessarily rude to our group, it ruined the entire evening. We had arrived to the venue about 5 minutes before the show started, and immedietley went to check in for the comdey show. We asked the very nice door man if we had time to grab drinks and quickly use the toilet before sitting down, and he said no problem and no need to rush. We were waiting for our last friend in the toilet not even 5 minutes later, when the female staff member approached and told us in a very rude tone that if we didn't take our seats immedietley we could not go to the show. She also stated that since we had decided to "take our sweet time" coming into the venue, that she was no longer able to sit us together. We explained to her nicely that we would have sat down upon arrival, but the other door man had told us we had time to get drinks and use the toilet, and we were just waiting on our last friend who was in the toilet. Her response was so absolutely rude and strange, we were shocked. She starts by going "I know there is one of you missing, I have eyes and can count!" Then she insinuates that the door man had never said that, and we were lying. She then stands there awkwardly in between my boyfriend and I while we are waiting for our friend to return. She then continues to berate us as she escorted us all to our seats. So bizarre and unnessecarily rude, but most of all disappointing because we loved the comedians but sadly won't be returning. (The 2nd star is only because of the comedians).

It was surprisingly well organised; I had booked online the day before, and at the door they had my name and then our seats had been pre-allocated and labeled with our reservation too so there was no need to arrive early. When the show got started, it was organised as 4 acts with a break after the first and the third, with the main act at the end. To be honest, all of them were about similar caliber; the first one was quite offensive but still drew a laugh; the second was Kenyan woman who alluded a lot to Africa in general before finally revealing she was from Kenya; the third was a former accountant who was able to rap about dirty math jokes; and the last was an Irish man who cracked some jokes about generic topics like England and falling in love. All in all, it was a good show, running from 8:30 to 10:45. Afterward, they invited the audience to the club downstairs with free entry and a free shot. Note: it got quite hot in the revenue by the end because there was no fan or AC

Three top acts from the comedy circuit plus one of their regular comperes (Craig Murray should be knighted) and a special exclusive kind of atmosphere which you just can't get at the more 'corporate' clubs. My girlfriend (Libby who wrote the first review) and I have now become regulars and the staff who run the comedy are always really friendly and welcoming. Once you know the place, my tip is pay for your tickets over the phone via their booking line, that way you can request which seats you'd like - they can't always 100% guarantee that you'll get what you've asked for - it is a dinky room and they often have odd group sizes to grapple with but its a nice touch nonetheless. Particularly in the Autumn/Winter peak days (Friday Saturday mainly) often get booked up over a week in advance so book early to avoid disappointment. Thoroughly recommended,

The club is right in the centre of Covent Garden, they get great acts (I saw Harry Hill there last year) and there's always a really great atmosphere (perhaps because its in a cellar and is pretty small which makes the experience feel special compared to other big clubs). I thoroughly recommend it.

The audience is the judge and pick up the winner, who then is invited following week to show a little bit more. The level of funniness between the performers may differ vastly, but then on some other nights all of them are pretty good, so you never know, what you gonna get. The problem is you have to come at least 1 hour before the show starts and you have to buy at least 3 drinks per head. Recently they've changed the policy and when you book table, you have to give them the exact number of your guest. They will charge you £5 for anyone that doesn't turn up. They serve the typical pub food, chips and burgers and the choice isn't great, but the portions are decent. I have to agree with BlackDahlia, the nachos portions are gigantic and verrry cheesy:P I've encountered a problem with their tap beer though. I had to change my pints (on 2 occasion, 2 different beers) as they tasted awfully, as if they were weren't very fresh or something. If I can give you a tip: don't sit by the tables nearest to the stage as you'd be picked on and every single comedian will be making fun of you throughout the night:)

It's a little confusing because you find Comedy Cafe but you enter through the bedroom bar. If you're planning to eat, get there a little early and order at the ground floor bar. You can bring the food up but will need to pick it up downstairs. The spicy chicken sandwich was actually pretty good. No wonder it's so difficult to book in for a spot here - the place is really nice! Now I've done a handful of gigs around London in basements and 1st floors of pubs and this has the nicest and spacious space. The acts are varied but usually ends with a good penultimate and heading lining act which should be more experienced testing out new material. Can't complain too much because the show is free! But I highly recommend booking on the website in advanced because it does sell out.
