I enjoyed watching Him work it was like watching the artist at work. They had everything down to the finest detail they knew exactly what they were doing. They could tie a rope from one tree to another and swing part of that tree side ways as it fell. It was really amazing I'd never seen anything like it. They had a crew of six or seven men that moved in unison as the need arises they knew exactly what to do. They worked as a team together. You can tell they were professional's of the highest quality. They had a decent selection (not too many big ones) - it's still early in the season, so I'm not sure if they'll be getting more later on. We got a 6.5' foot tree named Polar Bear. Over the last decade, he's mowed, weeded, trimmed, planted flowers, shrubs and trees, relocated a Japanese maple twice until it got to its 'happy place', cut down a 20-foot messy cedar tree by himself, and most recently designed, built, and planted a 70+ foot long border. Blue Ribbon has made my yard look like a park. The border is gorgeous and the varying heights of ornamental trees, shrubs, and plants seems to give passersby a clearer perspective of how fast the sharp downhill curve is coming their way. What I've learned about Josh and Chad at Blue Ribbon Nursery is that they care about their customers and doing great work at a fair price. They are both very well informed about the items they sell and have a large selection. I highly recommend them for your landscaping and outdoor/indoor decor.

Over more than 30 years, we have worked with multiple landscape architects across several states…read more Our recent experience with Eli is, without question, the best and most satisfying. We recently moved into a retirement community and the landscaping around our cottage was pretty scraggly. We decided to wait a year to see how it looked in all seasons. Unimpressed after that time, and at the recommendation of neighbors, we contacted Eli for suggestions on low-maintenance native plants that are drought tolerant, deer resistant, low maintenance and pollinators. That's a long list, but Eli put together a proposal that met all of our requirements. Based on earlier experiences with other landscape architects, we wanted to avoid over-planting, but Eli anticipated that and his selection of both appropriate quantity, and size-specific cultivars will ensure that our new plantings won't overgrow their bed-spaces. When he arrived to begin work, we were delighted with the quality of the plants that were on his truck. All were robust, full, and shapely (especially a Weeping Redbud that is a focal point in our front yard). He and a single helper meticulously cleaned and prepared beds, amended soil (as appropriate) and carefully planted everything. They re-used the best specimens of our existing plants, effectively integrating everything into a consistent and coherent whole. In addition to his labor, Eli also provided a running commentary on plant selection and care. He took great pains to protect our new tree from potential deer damage (a major problem in our area) and provided recommendations on plant care through next year. As to value for price, I feel we have gotten our money's worth and more. Highest possible recommendation.

Throughout the process, Eli kept me informed of decisions, costs, and timelines. I enthusiastically recommend HIllside Gardening to Rockbridge County residents.
