Words…read morecan't express the joy and excitement of finding such an amazing place that had everything you would want compared to owning without the maintenance and responsibilities. Amenities like garden plots that were tilled yearly, a refreshing pool open all year, well maintained gas grills with tanks readily available when they were empty, beautifully maintained grounds, and a wonderful dog park with artificial turf. The other thing that made us so elated was that we could beautify and decorate our place the way we wanted to make it truly our home if appropriate and didn't upset the neighbors. Unfortunately, in the past few years all that has changed. Well the pool is still open all year, for now anyways. We are only allowed a mat and a wreath for decorations, the grounds are no longer beautiful or properly kept, the grills are not maintained and tanks are always empty, the garden is a joke, dog park is in disrepair, dog receptacles are constantly overflowing, and there is always litter and dog waste all over the complex. What's so disheartening is there are many residents like us that love and care about our home and have sent requests to address these issues only to have them discarded or marked completed when nothing was done. I believe the majority of the blame falls on Blue Ridge Companies, who own and manage the property, but it seems that the office and/or maintenance staff either no longer cares or are forced not to care about our needs The Orchard Apartment Homes are listed as luxury living and when we first moved in I would totally agree with that statement. However, not anymore. I encourage friends, family, and other residents who see this post to please share to bring our beloved complex back to the way it was. If anyone from the media is interested in learning more, I would be happy to share more details since there is so much more to this story.

It's pretty hard to find someone who will even come to your house when they say they will and do a standard and professional job, but the best thing about Scott Britt (the main guy) is that he immediately understands whatever aesthetic vision you have and executes it beautifully. How rare is that? An example: we keep honeybees and a big swath of our backyard is maintained as a wild meadow, a bee sanctuary full of native blooming plants that the bees love. BUT. It kind of looks crazy and overgrown (if you didn't know that it was a bee meadow). I asked Scott to cut a walkway through the meadow and sort of gestured "from here to here", and when I came back he had crafted a delicately curving pathway that took into account the curve of the land and how it rose and fell and wrapped around to the more genteel part of the property perfectly. Without me even really asking, he knew exactly what I wanted. And that kind of thing happens all the time with him. Well priced, professional service with an almost uncanny attention to the potential loveliness in a space? Yes. Please. Better than a big company any day.

So, I decided to give her a break and research a tree service solo. I contacted other services who didn't call me back, but when I put in my information onto their website, I got a punctual call. The Grubb rep was professional and helpful accommodating my hectic schedule. The field reps visited my property and provided a reasonable estimate, and again worked with me for my hectic schedule to drop my trees. Billy and Luke rang my door, stepped back, and met me with professionalism and courtesy. They explained the process and all potentials, allowing me to ask questions, get advice, and make the decisions. Billy and Luke then put on their safety gear and went to work. They efficiently dropped my diseased trees threatening my home. I appreciate the cost and professionalism of everyone from Grubb's!!

Poor experience. Bad communication. Will not be using again…read more We hired Grubb Tree to install a french drain and dig out our front ditch. They cut our water line. Instead of calling a plumber, they incorrectly patched it and our pipes were clogged with mud, leaving us with no water. When we asked the onsite manager, "What is your process for handling a situation like this?" the response was "Well you signed an agreement saying we aren't liable for these types of things. People don't usually read the whole thing and miss that part. As long as it [cost to fix] isn't too much, we will do right by you guys." We felt like this response wasn't helpful as it turned the relationship from collaborative to adversarial. We solved the problem on our own by calling 3 different plumbers to assess the issue and 1 providing a fix. We then tried to coordinate with Grubb Tree to cover the cost of the fix. At this point, we determined that it would be best to coordinate with Luke Grubb who originally estimated and contracted this work in order to ensure that the repairs were reflected in the contract.  This is where the communication broke down. Instead of putting us in touch with Luke, our calls were seemingly screened and forwarded to the onsite manager, who never forwarded our calls. The receptionist said she would "have Luke get back to us", but he never did. After repeated attempts, we were provided paperwork via email that reflected the cost reduction for the plumbing fix and they were scheduled to return and finish the work. This is where we wish the story had ended. Grubb Tree returned to finish the french drain, which they did without headache. When it came time to dig out the front ditch the onsite manager was refusing to perform the work outlined in the estimate, claiming an incorrect interpretation of the imagery and work statement. After back and forth, the matter had to be escalated to Luke. He admitted a "miscommunication" on their part and instructed the team to proceed according to the contract.  The quality of work on the ditch was insultingly poor. It was clear from the haphazard discarding of topsoil and snakelike pattern of the cut out "ditch" that the onsite team was rushing this part of the job and adhering to an almost malicious compliance and interpretation of the statement of work. We understand that mistakes and miscommunications happen. However, we expect to be treated with respect as the paying customer. To us, this would mean our contractor ensures that our voices are heard without condescension. It also means that our contractor performs work of a reasonable quality and assumes a certain level of care. Unfortunately, in this case, we feel like Grubb Tree didn't meet these expectations and it resulted in a poor overall experience. Therefore, we will not be doing business with them again.

We wanted several retaining walls in our very sloped backyard, which falls into a small creek in…read moretown, near 5th Street Area. We interviewed three companies and Alex came in the middle with high quality stone, others were $$$ (thousands) higher or lower with either landscape timber (not long term) or old school cinder block. Very responsive, returned emails, worked with hubby for details. Started right away. The walls are BEAUTIFUL, both exactly where we wanted and mostly to the scale we want. Took a little over a week, guys (team of 3) came on time every day, even weekend to finish around rain. Big project! Only concern AND comment was the cleanup. Guys tried to put damaged front lawn back, did reseed and give us extra seed and straw. BUT feel if this is a lawn care company, preferred to have ruts in yard, from use of heavy equipment, leveled out, and help with more reseed as we had to finish the rest ourselves. So a bit disappointed in final cleanup. Quality of work is excellent and walls look just like we expected. (hubby will be adding to lower wall, himself, to get a bit more length as we had expected it to be taller overall, not just a bump in middle - a 16" wall should be at least 14" feet high everywhere not just 8" bump in middle.) Would definitely recommend them, Alex, just be firm and keep an eye on finishing and communicate that from beginning.
