Him and I got everything settled on times, venue, and cost. We spoke on the phone and again, and I expressed my concern on not losing him for our event. He even told me "i will set aside this day and if i get asked about it, I will let you know" 3 days after our conversation he texted me telling me how he has had an inquiry on our same date. So I told him to get me the contract and I will get him a deposit back asap. We decided to hold off on the photo booth and mentioned that we may change our minds later on that; but we want to move forward on the DJing and Mcing. So 11 hours go by and he ask us for our information to email us our contract. I send it immediately, he then tells me an hour later "sorry but we have now been booked for that day and time, for more hours and a photo booth". So next time you're planning you Paso Robles wedding, if you decide to use Kevin, make sure you act within an hour of booking him and try to optimize his income for the event or else he will take the next person who is willing to use all his services and benefit him more than you.

To make things worse, he canceled a scheduled meeting at the venue just days before the wedding, which was supposed to help finalize details. We created a video walk-through for him to avoid any confusion, but he still didn't follow the plan. The playlists we spent time curating were not played in the right order--for example, after the father-daughter dance, he was supposed to ease into international and intergenerational music. Instead, he played "Work Bitch" by Britney Spears, which was wildly inappropriate for that moment and crowd. He didn't read the room at all. He billed himself as an MC, but he barely engaged with the crowd and did nothing to energize or guide the evening. I'm talking ZERO charisma. I had written him a script and a detailed timeline to make things easy, and still, we were left scrambling. After my solo bridal performance, he didn't switch to the Armenian playlist as instructed. I had to go to the booth myself and ask. Then, when he disappeared mid-set (apparently for a bathroom break), he left the playlist on shuffle and songs began to repeat. Again, I had to step in and manage it myself--on my own wedding night. Even my cousin asked me, "Why are you DJing your own wedding?" Overall, it was an unprofessional and stressful experience. I put so much effort into creating a fun and thoughtful night, and instead of enjoying it, I found myself constantly managing a vendor who should've had it under control. He came off as sloppy, unprepared, and totally not up to the task.

I love to dance, and I know a good DJ when I hear one, but it's been rare in my life when a DJ is so good, I feel like I'm back in my college days, jumping up and down every time a song transition occurs and I find myself blurting out "Omg I love this song!". Well, that was me, from the beginning to the end of my wedding, jumping up and down in my wedding dress, giddy like a little girl. Kevin's experience as a DJ is evident within the first few songs from the way he mixes the music, to the smooth transitions, to the way he assesses the crowd's preferences and creates the most beautiful positive energy! Kevin knew that my fiance' and I have a unique love story. We were each other's first loves back in high school and we lost touch for 17 years until we reconnected. Because of that, our ceremony was romantic, emotional, and elegant and Kevin did such an incredible job of capturing the sentiment that we wanted. We got to select the music that we wanted playing as people were arriving for the ceremony. We selected classical pieces that were really meaningful to us when we dated in high school. I remember getting ready to walk down for the ceremony in my wedding dress and hearing Smaointe' by Enya playing, and I started to cry. It meant so much to me that Kevin let us select that music. I walked down the aisle to Nessun Dorma, from the opera Turandot, the song I dreamt of walking down the aisle to since I was a little girl. And right as we went in for the kiss, I had asked Kevin to fade in the most powerful part of that song before the recessional at the end of the ceremony. It couldn't have been more perfectly timed. He was so on point! We had decided that for the reception we just wanted to have cut loose and have fun! The most impressive thing about Kevin's ability to move the crowd is that our wedding was a 100% alcohol-free event. As a bride, one of the greatest joys of that night was seeing my loved ones so happy and dancing and full of life without being under the influence, and Kevin made that happen! I will never forget that. When we had our first dance, there was some miscommunication about the length of the song, and it was cut short, so afterwards I spoke to Kevin about it, and he apologized and told me we would replay our first dance song again later in the evening and he would play the full song (I picked a very long version). His sincerity meant so much to me. He truly cares about his clients and making sure their special day is what they envisioned. So we got to have a second "first dance" under the stars. Again, that is a moment that I will never forget. We had a technical malfunction with the slide show that evening, and Kevin came to the rescue to make sure that we had excellent sound quality. Kevin is extremely professional, but also brings so much heart and dedication to his craft. From day one, he took the time to hear our entire story and took careful notes during meetings on what we were looking for. Perhaps the most valuable part of Kevin's approach is his exceptional organization and attention to detail! He has a whole online planning format where you can enter everything and all your song selections, etc. as you're in the wedding planning stages. Norman went above and beyond, for every step of the way. He attended my onsite meeting with both my client and myself, to talk through details. He considered where the buffet was going to be, where the stage was going to be - and then even sent me notes on planning. He was even able to provide the generator needed to maintain the electricity levels needed to cook the meal. The night of the event, I arrived a few hours early, as we do to start preparing the food. Norman had not only already arrived and set up, and was testing lights and sounds - he had showed up earlier that week to set up the stage and space for our event. This led to a seamless evening - as everything had already been put where it needed to be put. I've been the vendor at weddings that the set up is still happening when we're arriving to start cooking the food - and it's chaos. Not with Norman! For the lighting and sound of the evening - it was amazing. On the side, I also work in many local theatre groups - and his efforts were among the best I've seen. With great touches, downloaded additions, and his attention to detail - each number by each performer had it's own unique lighting and backdrop - and the music had absolutely zero hitches. We've all been to a theatre show, and had the sound go out - not with "Light and Sound" - the music was flawless at every stage of the night!
