We went to the museum and there was 5 of us but walked in and just saw a lot of pictures and adults cost 10$ so we decided NOT!

Second stop on our road trip in Nov '07. Had the pork chop sandwich, now we wanted to see what the Andy Griffith museum held. Located in a downstairs room, almost as an afterthought it seemed. No photos were allowed inside. Bits and pieces, costumes, letters, record albums, etc. from the life of Andy Griffith. This was not just about Mayberry RFD . One item I enjoyed seeing was an old wooden rocking chair that Andy was rocked in as a baby. They don't make furniture like that anymore! The best thing tho was a beautiful statue out in front of the Playhouse/ Museum. Andy & a barefoot Opie walking hand in hand, immortalized in bronze, fishing poles in hand. We visited on Sunday, and although it says on Yelp that it is closed today it was open and we had a great time. So much information about the Andy Griffith Show and Mr. Griffith himself. I'm a huge fan of the Andy Griffith show and had been looking forward to visiting this museum for a while. There is a lot about how Andy got started, and the show itself. It took a few hours for us to go through and we were going very slow reading everything. Others were blowing right through it. So if you are not the type to read, watch videos, or listen to shows, then you may not enjoy it. There is some cool memorabilia. Really enjoyed it for $8 bucks. read more

Cute, tiny little museum. Admission isn't bad for what you get and for the diehard Andy Griffith fan. I've never really watched much of the show, but went along with family who grew up loving it, so it was fun to see them so excited. The actual AG museum does now allow photography, sans flash, maybe since many people complained about this in previous years. Lots of photos, posters, and playbills from all of AG's other movies and theatre. Pretty interesting pieces, even for someone who isn't familiar with anything, and I liked seeing the different costuming they had displayed there, that was neat. The small room downstairs of Mayberry-referenced Mount Airy photos was a big hit with my family - they loved seeing all the places we walked in town while visiting and how they related to the show. read more

If you were a big fan of the Andy Griffith show or the man himself, this place has tons of information about him and his growing up. There's also lots of facts about the show and replicas of certain sets. For anyone who is not a huge fan, it is $8 per person to walk through and it only takes about 20 minutes total. The staff was very nice and it is a good way to complete a visit to Mt. Airy North Carolina. read more

Perfect We were headed back north from a month at Myrtle Beach and were excited to know that Mt. Airy was on the way home. Even though we were in the off season, late March, and some of the usual stops were closed we still were able to see the best part of this stop. The Andy Griffith museum was worth the $8 fee because you could see how much the town Loves their Namesake. The interactive museum and the original artifacts from the show are so special for someone who grew up knowing that this is the way life is supposed to be. Some people will come and have different expectations, but for someone who grew up with Andy and Opie this place (A.G. museum) could not have gave me a more perfect experience. read more

If you are a fan it will being back memories and smiles. It won't take all day to go through and the price helps support this small town so just focus on enjoying the displays. Also take the time to go to the courthouse next to Wally's. The town strip has some fun stores to pop in and out. read more

We visited with family (a couple of family members are big fans), including a couple of tweens, and had a decent time. But we expected and wanted a little more. There was no "intro" or "background" video on Andy (wish they would have had a room/theater with this running) and overall they were lacking memorabilia. They are currently remodeling, so hopefully it will improve. Some parts were definitely interesting, and the seemingly unrelated room dedicated to the siamese twins from the area was fascinating but also lacked content. Again, a better-produced video would help. I would suggest the museum invest in some video production, it would really enhance the visit. If you are a fan, it's worth a visit, especially since it's pretty cheap. Positives: Some interesting memorabila, several different buildings/rooms. Inexpensive (only $6 or so). Negatives: No "intro" video/film (this would really enhance the visit), not enough "stuff". read more

This "museum" isn't large enough to be called one. Our family agrees it is an "Andy Griffith Room of Dedication." Hopefully, they will improve their collection. I wouldn't even consider buying from their gift shop, for it is a total rip-off... a non permanent tattoo was $2.00! You can get packs of them for $1.00. Don't even get me started on the Siamese Twins!!! They were included in the price* and they have absolutely nothing to do with Andy Griffith. ??? Why ??? Also, the playhouse was included in the admission. For us it wasn't open. We SURE enjoyed the Andy Griffith room! read more

The museum is quite small so you can get thru it very quickly. You can also get thru the Siamese twins exhibit quickly, as well. There was an actress from The Andy Griffith Show there on site to sign autographs. What amazing timing. There was quite the long line of folks there to meet her. So that is great if you love the show and have the opportunity. The cost of $6 per person doesn't seem too bad, especially if you are a fan. read more

A wonderful visit; we made it the week that Andy died, so it was particularly sentimental. A fascinating look back at the life and legacy of Andy Griffith. Many of the items shared were donated by Emmett Forrest, whom I was fortunate to meet on the day I came. Loved my time there. read more

This museum is pretty cool. First thing as you walk up to the museum, you see the statue donated by TV LAND of Andy and Opie. When entering through the front door you are welcomed by Barney's sidecar and a giant "NO TIME FOR SARGANTS" movie. As you enjoy the museum you will some awesome displays covering Andy's entire career, with an emphasis on TAGS! Now for the reason why such a low rating. The staff make it very clear that there is no photography throughout the museum. This is very disappointing, considering what you see. Also the way the staff tells you no photography is a little snappy. I hope someday the photography policy changes...if and when it does it would defiantly be rated a 5 star. read more

For the town of Mount Airy is the place for anyone who remembers or loves or enjoys Andy Griffith. He is definitely the hometown hero and I think everybody in town knows it. The nice thing about this Museum is it when you tore it you find out more about Andy Griffith then I ever knew. For sure. He had so much acting work, even in high school he did all kinds of things. He was a singer any cut a bunch of albums. Now I'm saying albums not singles. He was a HomeTown hero and although most of us may remember the Andy Griffith Show and that nice Sheriff that he played there is so much more to his career that is revealed here in Mount Airy North Carolina. Now the rest of the museum has a downstairs that seems to me to have traveling shows come through to bring a little more flavor for the locals who seen all the things about Andy Griffith up above. When I was there it was all about the Siamese twins that had toward the country in a Time past. What amazing things toward the country and we're seeing that were complete Oddities that might be viewed very differently given today's view of staring at people who are odd. Anyway it was quite interesting what these gentlemen lived through and how they dealt with their life amazing just amazing. Remember that in town there are many things to see including the old Diner and the old police cars in mechanic shop that we're straight off the show of Andy Griffith. If you're coming through it's worth a stop. If you're an Andy Griffith fan it's a must stop. You choose you enjoy. read more

The Museum offers an abundance of memorabilia, however...I was fairly disappointed for lots of reasons. I was prepared to pay an admission fee, ($6/person + tax, $8 if you want the audio headset) but there is a convenience fee of $2.50 if paid by credit card. After paying the basic fee in cash, I decided to spring for the audio portion for an additional $2.14. There are small (2"x2") white signs with a headset icon identifying each audio station. "The.recordings aren't in any specific order," the lady told me. "It's kind of like a scavenger hunt," she chuckled. NO KIDDING. If the signs were printed on hot pink paper, visitors wouldn't have to hunt for xeroxed, black & white signs on b&w photos. Oh, and the audio segments are from an interview with Emmett Forrest recorded in the cavernous building, not in a sound studio, so the quality is poor and the speaker rambles. Let's move on...there are lots of AG (Andy Griffith) movie posters, costumes worn by his co-stars on TAGS (The Andy Griffith Show), framed newspaper articles, programs from 'The Lost Colony' and a great selection of Christmas cards featuring AG with his 3rd wife Cindi and classic autos. Much of the AG collection was donated by his childhood friend Emmett Forrest. Things I learned at the Andy Griffith Museum...AG started a barbecue restaurant on Glenwood Avenue in Raleigh in the early 1970s....AG sent provenance notes along with the items he entrusted to his friend Emmett. As Emmett shares in the recording about one of AG's sheriff shirts from TAGS, "Andy signed this shirt, and along with his note [about the shirt] makes the piece more valuable to collectors."....Ron Howard has never attended a Mayberry Days festival but sent recorded comments about AG that are included on the audio headset....Chang and Eng Bunker, the 19th-century Siamese twins, are featured in a small exhibit in an adjacent building. My wife and I are lifelong fans and this little museum has done a nice job of honoring him. It is a bright modern space filled with interesting artifacts from all stages of his career. If you're a fan, this is a must. Plus Mt Airy is a nice little town filled with lots of funky Mayberry memories. Have fun. read more

I went here a couple years ago and think that this is a must see for those Andy Griffith fans. We were able to see a good amount of memorabilia. The staff was very nice.Not sure if they were just glad to see someone come in or what.This is a kind of Sleepy town.If your real quiet you might hear someone whistling the theme song to Mayberry R.F.D. This is not high end museum, but like I said, worth the stop off the road. Oh they do have a bathroom there. read more

I love the town of Mt. Airy, aka Mayberry. I try to visit every time I travel from PA to see my brother and his family in NC. My first visit to the museum was this past Thanksgivings trip. It was really neat seeing all of the memorabilia centered around Andy Griffith. The employees were super nice. I was kind of disappointed in the size of the museum. It is basically one big room with displays on the walls and display in the middle. Although it was small I think it was worth the trip. Getting my picture taken by the Andy and Opie statue was the highlight of my trip. read more

It was a disappointing experience. I was not told that a significant portion of the museum was closed for renovations until after I paid my admission. Additionally, the photo gallery was being used for a meeting and was unavailable for viewing when I arrived. I did not see the playhouse show as that would have required waiting 2 hours so I cannot comment on that. Displays appeared to be randomly arranged and lacking interesting information.There was a large display room that only displayed a few items - should have had many more things for fans to see. Perhaps the museum would be worth a visit once all renovations complete and additional items are added to the displays.Would have appreciated more biographical information about the Andy Griffith show actors.Save your money on the admission (about $6.40) and just walk around the outside of the facility and inside the main building. read more

The museum is tiny, and you can see most of it from the doorway. It's overpriced for what it is, but as you're in Mt Airy anyway, you might as well go for it. Would love to see it expanded to include a recreation of Andy's house, or maybe even a diorama of Mayberry. It just needs more. read more

We stopped here over night on our way to Myrtle Beach! It was a nice little stop. I got a picture with The Andy Griffith Statue and checked out the town (drive by). It was cool to see the scenes from the show. As for paying $5 per person to go through the museum, no thanks! I love Andy Griffith, but I noticed most people took a picture with the statue and got back in their cars and hit the road. Beautiful landscape, though! read more

This is a must visit for any fan of the Andy Griffith Show. The lady at the front make you feel welcome from the time you walk in the door until the time you leave. She is more than willing to answer any questions about any of the artifacts on display. From Barney's sidecar in the lobby to Goobers Garage uniform they have a wonderful collections of artifact from the Andy Griffith Show. Keep in mind that this is the Andy Griffith Museum so mixed in with the Mayberry Artifacts are exhibits relating to his role as Ben Matlock and from his movies including a favorite of Mine "No Time For Sergeants." This is a small museum but I managed to spend about 90-Wondeful minutes here. Photos are NOT allowed inside the museum read more

Since I have to give a star I will give it one. The museum is under renovation and scattered about. We were told to just look in all the rooms and that there was plenty to see. Unless we missed a huge portion of the museum somewhere along the way, we saw a handful of outfits, no set props other than the jail cell keys, and a bunch of framed photos. A very nice place and only $3 a ticket to go in the museum! Excellent memorabilia, pictures and just delightful if you are an Andy Griffith Show fan. As a huge Andy Griffith fan I loved this museum. The price was perfect for the size of the place. They play clips from the Andy Griffith show and have some really cool items. I loved Barney's "old salt and pepper" suit, the dresses that the "fun girls" wore, the chair given to Don Knotts that is signed by the tv crew, the replica of the desk area that Andy sat in on the show....and on and on. Some cool Matlock items there too. Definitely not disappointed, a real bargain and some great items for sale too! read more
