My wife and I visited this office for several years and both now found another dentist in town. Dr. Sheng is competent enough but the billing practices are sketchy at best. We just received a $496.00 bill out of the blue which included multiple items over several months of services. The office claimed our Delta Premier plan was not paying them enough. I think they overcharge compared to other offices and that was another concern in our dumping them. Also, their mediocre office should be nicer for the premium prices. read more

I have been trying to convince my elderly mother to find a dentist for major dental work for literally over 20 years with no luck.  I have taken her to numerous dentists throughout LA over the years including USC and UCLA dental schools, but to no avail. Most recently, my mom's neighbor recommended Dr Sheng, and after months of her excuses, I finally convinced her to see him, and miraculously she finally found a dentist that she trusts and respects.   I was thoroughly impressed with his office, starting with the ease of scheduling an appointment, the professionalism and efficiency of the front staff, the open floor plan of the waiting room, down to the convenient location in a cute plaza with plenty of parking. As popular and busy as he is, Dr Sheng doesn't overbook appointments, so there is never a long wait, unlike some offices. On the day of my mom's consultation, Dr Sheng was extremely patient with my octogenarian mom and took his time to explain all her dental issues/problems to her, and why she was experiencing pain, then gave her a comprehensive dental plan, and answered all her questions. His approach was very conservative, which given her age and fragility, I really appreciated.  My mom required 2 new crowns, and everything went very smoothly, and once again my mom was very happy with Dr Sheng and his entire staff.  The dental assistants were all excellent. We still have more dental work with Dr Sheng in the months ahead, but I am so grateful we found him.  I completely trust him, and after having taken my mom to multiple dentists over the years, I know Dr Sheng is reasonably priced, honest, and genuinely cares for his patients.  He's definitely gifted at dealing with seniors, maybe bc he has a very pleasant demeanor.  Seniors have decades of life experience and are good judges of character, so the fact that my mom absolutely adores Dr Sheng, speaks volumes. My search for my mom's dentist is finally over, lol. I highly recommend Dr Sheng, he's a rare find indeed! read more

THE BEST Dentist and office I've ever been to, and this is coming from someone who has been to a lot of Dentists and who has had a lot of very bad experiences at those other places. I can confidently say that EVERYONE here actually does care greatly about their patients. I have felt judged and shamed before and have a lot of anxiety going to the Dentist but they have made me feel so safe and welcomed and most importantly; I don't feel judged in any way shape or form here. When I say I don't like the dentist, I REALLY don't like the dentist. However, Dr. Sheng and his staff may have just changed my overall sentiment. I went in this week for both an examination and cleaning. It was my first time at the practice and Dr. Sheng introduced himself personally and took his time during the exam. Who I really want to give a shout out to is Kris, the dental assistant. She made my cleaning so unbelievably pleasant! Kept me entertained, explained my cleaning in full detail and was overall a super sweet person to be around. I first became a patient at this practice 30 years ago when Dr. David Martin owned it. He was a warm, caring and accomplished dentist, who I was sad to see retire. (His name is still on the front door!). But Dr. Andrew Sheng took over and he has proven to be an equally compassionate, concerned and skilled dentist. Everyone at the practice, from the front office to the hygienists to Dr Sheng are very professional and the office is clean and quiet. I'm always seen on time and my hygienist Jean is conscientious and gentle. Dr Sheng has a conservative approach to dentistry and he has never pushed me to have any procedure. He thoroughly explains the situation then leaves it up to me to decide what I want to do. You're never forced to have xrays and there is never any upselling of products or treatments. I have cleanings twice yearly and have had several crowns done by Dr Sheng. I was very nervous when I had my first one done and he put me completely at ease by patiently answering all my questions and making sure I wasn't experiencing any pain. One time I cracked my tooth over a weekend and wasn't sure what to do. I called the answering service and Dr Sheng immediately returned my call, addressed my concerns and reassured me that the tooth would be okay until they opened on Monday, when he saw me first thing in the morning. Dr Sheng runs a great practice, staffed by caring and capable people, many of whom have worked there for twenty years or more. The office is located in the Vons Market shopping center at 25th and Western, so there is plenty of parking and the best part is that you get a magnificent ocean view while you're finding a spot to park! read more

I met this dental practice when Dr. James R. Murphy was about to retire and joined this practice (He's finally retired) years ago. I've had experience and exams by Dr. Martin & Dr. Sheng. The office staff is very professional, yet personable, they know their clients, treat you like a real person and not just some body who does or doesn't have insurance. The hygenists are awesome, Roanne is my hygienist and although I need to get in to see her, you are always welcomed there like you were there yesterday. They offer a great monthly newsletter full of lots of important dental care information . Even though they use state of the art dental diagnostic equipment and tools, they are old school when it comes to patient care and NOT an HMO style dentist office. I recently had a cleaning done by Chris, my dental hygienist, at Martin Sheng Dental group in San Pedro, CA. Chris is absolutely amazing! She is very nice to talk to and is always so cheerful! She was very gentle and took the time to explain how I can prevent the buildup in my "problem areas." Something my other hygienists failed to do. During the visit I was told I needed some work done. I scheduled the appointment and was able to be seen fairly quickly. I made the appointment with Dr. Marc Tully. During my next the appointment (to get a cavity filled) Dr. Tully and his assistant Eva took the time to explain the procedure. Both of them were wonderful and made the experience a pain-free and positive one for me. He listened to me when I said I was feeling pain, pressure, and a cold sensation. He stopped the work twice and numbed my tooth directly again until it was truly numb then finished the work. I am very grateful to them for taking the time to listen to me instead of just continuing to work. Eva helped me to be calm and relaxed during the procedure. I can't thank them enough. If your like me and have a fear of the dentist office, this is a great place to try. They understand my fear and they did their best to hep alleviate it! Their office is clear and well organized. I have been taking my now 14-year-old son here a little over two years now. Both Dr. Sheng and Dr. Tully and all of his technicians and staff are very thorough and they do a fantastic job explaining the procedures and their concerns. They also have a lot of cool books on San Pedro and surrounding areas so I like coming here to read while my son gets his exam/cleaning. The office is very clean. They also referred me to a great orthodontist, Dr. Kardovich, for my sons braces. We will continue to come to this office as it has always been a great experience. read more

I have been going to Dr. David Martin for over 30 years. I must say I am super picky and a bit of a perfectionist so choosing the right dentist for our family was extremely important to me. Though I dislike immensely going to the dentist, Dr. Martin and Dr. Sheng could not be any better in my mind. To start with, their front desk personnel is friendly, competent and well organized. I am always greeted with a smile and the wait is minimal. Dr. Martin has done an outstanding job taking care of our families teeth. Once when my son shipped his front tooth, Dr. Martin came in on a Saturday without hesitation and fixed it. It gave us so much piece of mind and we were so thankful. I have now gotten to know Dr. Sheng and I am most impressed. He is amazingly; approachable, understanding and extremely kind. But most importantly he is an excellent dentist. He does great work and he is a most skilled dentist. Over the weekend I had an emergency with a root canal done by an endodontic dentist and Dr. Cheng was there for me every step of the way. I was really nervous, because it had been awhile since I needed any work done other than cleanings. I saw Dr.Tully for a couple of fillings. He talked to me about music to try and ease my anxiousness before numbing me. I did not feel a thing. During the procedure he even made me laugh. Overall it was a pleasant experience. Dr.Tully was very professional and is skillful at what he does. I need a couple more fillings and I look forward to seeing him again. I recommend him to anyone who is nervous. read more

Very disappointment with my first visit. Had a tremendous ache and the dentist just send me to another dentist because he could not do it.

Best dental visit yet! I recently had a tooth bothering me and needed a filling. Dr S pulled out a machine and numbed only the tooth he was working on, plus I didn't feel a thing while he was numbing me. He did the filling and I left without the usual feeling of numb lips. What made it the best visit yet was because I could go get something to eat right away, also tooth doesn't hurt anymore. read more

No complaints here! I have so far gone for x-rays, fillings, and tomorrow I'm going in for my cleaning. This place is great all around! Dr Sheng is great! Very nice, explains everything so that you understand it, and seems very ahead of all the "dentist trends". When i went in for my x-rays he showed me them on the tv screen and explained how he knows if there is a cavity or not...mini dentistry lesson was pretty cool. For the past ten years or more I've had only the best treatment and care from this office, and Dr. Sheng is an excellent dentist. I usually only come for preventative maintenance, but Dr. Sheng has also repaired a chipped front tooth for me. All the hygienists here are exceptional - as is the staff. They're friendly, extremely efficient, and always seem to remember who I am, even though they must have a billion patients. Last week I called to reschedule my appointment because my father had died, and today I received a sympathy card from the staff. That's the kind of place this is. I cannot recommend it highly enough. Usually, I am extremely nervous about visiting the dentist because of the potential bad news. I have suffered my entire life with cavities regardless of what I do so you can understand my fear. While still not a fun experience (I would rather be at the beach), Dr. Sheng makes it bearable, even pleasant. When you first enter the office, the staff is extremely friendly and attentive. I brought in my son and they even let him pick out a toy from the kids drawer even though he wasn't there for a checkup. Dr. Sheng was punctual, which I appeciate since I had my son with me, and proceeded to check my teeth for any problems. He explained what he was doing so I wasn't in the dark and even showed me how I could brush better and areas which needed more attention. The experience was painless and I am pleased to say that I walked out of there with no cavities. Hallelujah! I will definitely be back in six months for my checkup. read more
