Munzesheimer Manor

Munzesheimer Manor

I can't stop thinking about our stay here in mid March of this year!! My boyfriend and I visited…read moreMineola for a wedding and decided to try to book a hotel last minute - (not thinking that Mineola is a small town and there is NOT a plethora of hotel options! Ha!). My whole family ended up staying at the Best Western (which I heard NOT the best choice after their stay...) and we were in a hunt to find an affordable option that didn't include infestations of ANY sorts. We stumbled upon the Munzesheimer Manor on Hotels.com and I was slightly hesitant from the price, but there was only one room available (The Kringle Cottage) in the entire town and I emailed an inquiry to Ashlee. Just from her email, I felt sincerely welcomed and right at home, so even though the price was a little more than we initially wanted to pay, we booked! My next email to her had to deal with food preferences. The last thing I wanted to be was a bother, but since the price included breakfast, I thought I would ask if she would have any options without meat, dairy, or egg (vegan). I was happy to make other accommodations if that wasn't an option, but she happily emailed me back with an "of course!" without hesitation. We were THRILLED. She mentioned that she had a gluten free guest staying that same weekend and she is always cooking for allergies or preferences. So not only was Ashlee going to provide us with food, but when we got back from the wedding, there were freshly baked vegan brownies on our bed! (Jaw dropped with hungry drool!). In the morning she greeted us on our porch with hot tea (our preference over coffee) and at 9am we walked into the dining room to gourmet meals and beautifully set table with freshly squeezed OJ, maple chia seed pudding with fresh fruit, and German pancakes with a fresh strawberry drizzle. (Food cherubs singing!!) Besides the food and fabulous service, our Kringle Cottage was the cutest damn thing west of the Mississippi!! We had our own little porch with swing and all, a claw foot tub with an adorable heated furnace nearby, and the year-round comfort (I don't care how old you are!) of Christmas decorations and cheer! It was the BEST B&B/hotel/motel stay we have EVER had! If you are even thinking twice about booking a room here or thinking of swinging through this sweet little town, PLEASE DO!! If we ever drive up to Dallas again, we will be going out of our way to stay here! :) Can't say enough about the sweet southern hospitality we received.

Pretty much a "ditto" for Heather H.'s review. This B&B is an easy drive from the Canton trade…read moredays, and it's a beautiful place to stay. I understand that they will be raising their rates, but in doing so, the manor is adding a host of amenities and new constructions. I am very excited for all the Bret and Ashlee will accomplish in 2015 with the place, and I am very pleased they are continuing to work with local community businesses to create a properous community in Mineola. If you take the Amtrak train to Mineola, you can even walk to the manor from the train, although I'm sure the Ungers could arrange transportation. Bret and Ashlee go far out of their way to make guests feel at home and relaxed at the manor, and they love to talk about the manor's history and about the Grand Saline/Mineola area. Make sure you attend breakfast every day. The food is wonderful (I'm glad they're changing back to the beignet coffee!) and the hospitality will make your vacation excellent.

Fair Breeze Cottage

My wife and I spent three days at Fair Breeze, and I can heartily recommend this cabin as a…read morevacation destination. On arrival, a code to open the entrance gate was given to us, and we drove to the cabin. Everything there is exactly as pictured (We rented the front half of the cabin, so this is about that area). The décor is quaint and beautiful - I described it as "early antique store" - with a full kitchen with stove/oven, microwave, all utensils (including a very nice kitchen/steak knife wooden block set), refrigerator, coffeemaker, and plenty of plates, cups, and saucers. The "early antique store" theme does not rule the roost, however as there is a flat-screen TV tastefully hidden in a cabinet over the fireplace, with satellite TV and a DVD player, and plenty of family-friendly DVDs provided. The central heat/air is quiet, and easily adjustable. Another modern plus is a beautiful jetted tub - very quiet and powerful. Why this isn't mentioned in the listing, I'm not sure, but it is VERY nice. If you rent the front half as we did, the bedroom and living room are one large area, but it never felt cramped or obtrusive (in some cabins with this arrangement, you have to walk around the bed to get to the rest of the property, but not here). The hot tub on the enormous screened-in L-shaped covered deck/porch was scrupulously clean, and the owners came by the second day we were there to service and clean it. Good stewardship indeed. The view from the potion of the deck that had the hot tub faced the forest (30 feet or so from the cottage) , and birds sang in the trees. The view from the other portion was beautiful - a rolling meadow with gorgeous oak trees, melting into the forest line. Morning mists made the meadow look dream-like. Now about the owners. Christie Cook and her husband Stan came up to the cabin exactly twice during our stay - Christie once to bring new batteries for the DVD remote, and once by Christie and Stan to service/clean the hot tub and ask if there was anything we needed. They are both wonderful hosts, and we really enjoyed chatting with them. Christie is also an accomplished musician - if you watch the video on the Fair Breeze website, that's her playing guitar - and we had a talk on recording technniques and compression issues. Did I mention Milo and Cocoa Puff? We made a trip up to the owners' house (up a quarter-mile paved driveway) to visit this odd couple of horse-and-donkey. Both were very friendly and came up for pets and treats. They also have a tuxedo cat who lounges around like he owned the place (don't they all, really?), and and older dignified dog (whose name escapes me at the moment). In short - beautiful solitude (but with Nagodoches a 10-minute drive away), beautiful views, beautiful cabin, gracious and respectful hosts - what's not to like??

We booked this cottage on a whim for a visit in the area and were beyond delighted! It feels a…read morelittle far out in the country when you first arrive, but the property is spotless and lovely. It's so quiet at night, if you do not count the frogs and the owls! The owners are lovely people and we felt very safe and secure. There is room to run around and the cottage is adorably decorated and stocked. Very comfortable stay- we will be back!
