They are definitely some of the most expensive tax professionals on the market being 3-5x more expensive than my prior accountants, but considering poor/nonexistent communication and not responding to my emails and calls is what cost me $8k+ in tax penalties, for me it is worth the premium price (although, I have yet to get first bill from them, so we'll see haha). But whatever you do, do NOT go to Daylen at Klingler Associates or Brady at High Country Finance unless you want to start getting a dozen+ IRS letters a week telling you your taxes were done wrong and you owe penalties!!

After investing our monies for two years in an investment scheme that the owner and his crony were pushing, we were not seeing the very optimistic returns that they had led us to believe we'd be receiving. In fact, everyone was making fee money on it except us. After bailing out of their investment scheme, the CPA company owner effectively fired us from his tax-prep service (probably as a payback!). But get this, he didn't even give us the courtesy to tell us this, so come tax time we were left hanging and had to scramble to find a good, ethical tax-prep office instead of his. Not only is there a conflict of interest here, having the tax-preparer push his faulty investment plan, but also the poor ethics of stopping his employment and service to us without the courtesy of telling us in advance. Beware!

The financial issues were complicated, the history was lengthy, and there was an overwhelming amount of documentation to work through. From our very first conversation, it was clear that Nick was not interested in taking shortcuts and making assumptions--and I knew I had found the right attorney for our case. He listened. He asked important questions. He wanted to understand not only the facts, but the context behind them. Nick never argued first and figured it out later. He sought understanding first--and that's what made him such an effective advocate. By the time we got to trial, Nick knew the case inside and out. That preparation, coupled with his keen understanding of the law, allowed him to represent my brother with confidence, giving weight and credibility to every argument he made before our judge, and ultimately achieving an outcome that exceeded our expectations. On a personal level, Nick was responsive, calm under pressure, compassionate, and genuinely invested. He treated us with kindness and respect, earning our complete trust. I'm so grateful that I chose Nick Gottwald to represent my brother. Words fall short of expressing my appreciation for his hard work and unwavering commitment from start to finish. If I had to do it all over again, I wouldn't change a thing. I'd hire Nick again in a New York minute.

I was willing to pay him a straight fee for the consultation. He spent 20 or so minutes looking at the numbers and said I should have a small gain. I specifically asked if I needed to sell more stock at a loss to offset those gains and he said NO. I should get a small refund. After his secretary called me to come in and sign the forms she casually said that I owe over $8,000 combined. He didn't have the courtesy to call me directly. Both voicemails have been full for 5 days so I couldn't leave a message and he did not respond to my email. I finally spoke to him and he casually said just sell some stock to pay for it. No apology, no admittance of his error, no responsibility. This is the second time a UT CPA has screwed up my taxes. The first time this big firm just forgot to file my taxes and if I hadn't called to follow up would not have noticed they forgot. WRD
