There's a nice peaceful path that goes along the park and stream and you can wrap around into the neighborhood to make a full roundtrip. Overall, peaceful little trail and pet friendly too. The people at this park are great, and theres always new doggie friends coming and going. However, there are a few things that I do not like about this park. First, there is no shade on the inside of the park to hide under while your pup plays. Second, there are two drainage ditches in the park at both entrances, which are very smelly and dirty. Finally, sense there is no shade and the smelly water and muddy parts are cool the dogs love laying in them and muddy holes they dig. But, sense there is a hose and drinking fountain right outside the fenced area you can rinse your dog off before you leave, and they won't be stinky for the ride home! There is also a walking trail around the park to take a stroll while your pup dries. Overall, I like it, and my dog likes it. Just go early or later in the afternoon to stay out of the heat of the day.

It's a shame as this area provides lovely views during nature walks when the sun is out and the breeze is blowing at a lovely pace. In addition, there is a playground and a softball/baseball diamond tucked here. You'll hear the sounds of bats connecting with balls and kids shouting since baseball games are played here often.

Other features include water fountains, benches and a shaded patio area for spectators. Under sunny skies and amid a festival-like atmosphere, the City of College Station on Saturday, Sept. 3, 2011 officially opened and named its newest attraction: The G. Hysmith Skate Park. The park's namesake is Garrett Hysmith, an energetic College Station boy who, by the time he died in 2005 at age 13, had bravely fought brain cancer for four years. He loved music and Boy Scouts, but was most passionate about skateboarding. Two years after his death, his closest friends embarked on what they would dub Operation Garrett: Convincing the College Station City Council to include a skate park as part of a bond package that would go before voters. In 2008, 65 percent of those voters embraced the idea at the ballot box. Operation Garrett would, indeed, create a proper place for skateboarders -- a $920,000 facility -- to safely practice and perfect their sport.
