Having…read moredriven by it several times, and noticing the art installation and gardens, I was curious but never had a good reason to stop by and investigate. However, ever since I started following Art Equals on social media, I discovered that there are events open to public inside the Hellman Creative Center. It's not just Artist Studios, as the sign would suggest. And, as it turns out, I am a big fan! Open, inviting, and clean, the inside of this historic building has been beautifully renovated. There is a large meeting/conference room just off the lobby. Beyond that, there are artists' studios and a small kitchenette. I attended a Zine Lab with Art Equals and had a fantastic time learning about Zines and creating one of my one. Stop by and take part in this excellent addition to the art scene in Covington.

This building was originally a sawmill and has been beautifully redesigned as a community space, spot for artists, and people who do good in the community (refugee settlement, help with taxes, cross-cultural training, learning how to respond to conflict, etc.). My favorite space, besides the community rooms, is Empower Tools. This is a free service for those with a Kenton County library card. An individual can rent tools for their art, lawn, home repair, moving supplies, or pruning needs. You have up to 3 tools for a week, without the need to maintain them. Perfect for someone like me who struggles with all the oils and fine tuning of home equipment!

When I think of Colerain I think of the hustle and bustle of Colerain Ave. This area is much more peaceful. Before COVID, the community center was a popular spot for weddings. The hall has a neutral look making it easily dressed up on down depending on the event. Due to restrictions, rental of the reception hall has been halted until further notice. Once services open again know that there is plenty of parking. There are several community outreach programs throughout the year. Due to COVID, those programs have greatly changed. There are also programs for seniors. Fun fact. The sign for the community center that is located off of the street was donated by the Northgate Mall.

The community center faced a baseball field. The building itself looks professional with a hint of rustic. A large reception hall is available for rental. Rates vary based on day of the week, and if the party renting lives within the township/ Three Rivers area. Grounds are well maintained. Behind the building is a small playground. This is a great added bonus if throwing a party where children are to be in attendance. From the balcony the playground is visible. Many trees have been planted so that the playground is not the main focus of the view. Various public events are held here throughout the year. In August, two outdoor concerts are held. Tonight we are being treated to BAMSO-BLUE ASH MONTGOMERY SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA. quite the performance focused on memorial of servicemen/ women Douglas Knehans created a piece related to his father's experience in WW2. I took the Fearless Falling class, held between 3:00 to 4:00 on Wednesdays and I learned so much. The senior lunch on Wednesdays and Fridays is only $4; you may choose to dine in or takeaway. Near the dining hall sits a huge cabinet filled with puzzles ranging from 300 to 1,000 pieces. Their generous policy is that you may bring puzzles or take as many puzzles as you like. The pool tables are always in use by smiling gentlemen and ladies. There is a quilt drop-in a couple of days a week. I'm impressed with how upbeat and cheery everyone is and I'm glad the city has created such a welcoming space for its seniors.

Even though I live in Westerville (license says Westerville, bills say Westerville, literally live…read morenext to Westerville Central Highschool) they said I am not eligible for resident rates. So ridiculous & I'm not paying an extra $24 a month for the "nonresident rate" when I do live IN WESTERVILLE... The building is rather odd with a poorly thought out design. The basketball court is at the south…read morearea, swimming pool at the north, and athletic equipment in an L shaped area at the center. Bodybuilders using weights are at the smaller part of the L shape in the south-west area of the building. The walls of the basketball court do not go all the way up to the ceiling so yelling, screaming, and thumping noises easily propagate throughout the building as do clanking sounds from the weight lifting area. Walls, floors, and the interior of the roof of this huge open space are all hard surfaces which exacerbate the noise problem. There are several TV's on the south wall but no remote control(s) to channel select. Speakers abound throughout the building often with annoying music that is more often than not in the foreground rather than background. This only serves to add to the ambient noise level. There are other oddities as well such as no place at the entrance to hang winter coats, rain coats, boots, umbrellas, etc. There are however, small lockable cubicles near the entrance where a rolled up jacket or other small items can be stowed. If you have large bulky winter items, it would be best to shed them and leave them in your car. The locker rooms are also lacking where lockers are just half-height and stacked one above the other. Having just one toilet and one urinal, this is grossly inadequate for the scores of members and staff using the building. And strangely, paper towel dispensers are numerous for wiping down the machines however none are to be found in the restrooms. Oddly, included under the hand blower is a trash container for paper towels that do not exist. When the blower runs, the plastic liner blows out into your face. Lastly, whoever designed the parking area was totally clueless. There is not enough space between the double rows of parking slots making getting in and out of spaces tight and difficult. Care must be taken as to not back into one of the other parked cars. Other than the oddities outlined, it's a welcomed addition to the community.

The price to reserve the shelter was only $20 and they had a lot of availability. Try that budget at a Winton Woods shelter!! Not happening. I would love to attend an event here and have any excuse to spend time in this gorgeous location.

The staff at the front desk are kind, greet you with a smile and are super helpful to directing you around the place. In addition the service coordinator Sandy Lemons is great. She's such a sweet and welcoming staff. Sandy and her colleagues along with Spoon and others through their excellent customer service remake the difference at the Price Hill Rec Center.
