The primary reason that I chose the Andersen Hotel was because of all the great reviews touting the location. It wasn't the cheapest option, but it also wasn't the most expensive, and I was willing to pay a bit extra for a prime location. I had never been to Copenhagen before and was only there for a couple of days, so I wanted to make sure that I was somewhere that it was easy to get around from. It turns out that the Andersen is located right near the Central train station, which is in fact very convenient but 1) There are lots of hotels surrounding the Andersen, on all sides, which also have a great location and 2) Copenhagen is small and easy to navigate, so pretty much any location would have worked fine. Regardless, I was very happy with my decision. Hotels are just more expensive in Copenhagen, so you need to adjust your expectation for what you will be getting relative to what you paid. I got a great rate of about $160 per night, but after taxes, it worked out to more like $200 for night. In another city, you might expect more for a $200 room, but in Copenhagen what I got was a step above basic, but completely adequate. The bed / pillows / bedding / towels were standard but again, adequate. I had a single room which had a single size bed with a small nightstand, an ottoman, a small armchair, and a small desk and chair, which pretty much took up the entire room. There was a single window with a shade and curtains when used in combination got the room fairly dark even in the daylight. Pretty small, but normal by European standards and definitely enough for one person. It was cozy, and I was very comfortable. The bathroom was a decent size relative to the room, with a bathtub that had detachable shower head which could be hooked on to be used like a standard American shower (this can be a luxury in Europe, so I'm always happy when I see it). The TV had about 20 channels, only three of which were in English - CNN, BBC ,and TNT, which was fine because I didn't spend much time hanging out in the room. Wifi was free, and a decent speed. There was a fan in the room, so I don't believe there is A/C. I needed neither heat nor A/C when I was there, but if you think you will, it's something to look into. What made this hotel special and somewhere that I would recommend is the small "extras" - really friendly and helpful staff, treats on each floor of the stairwell, a wine hour from 5 to 6 pm (not great wines but not the point), and a nice morning breakfast buffet. Nothing to complain about!

I was not responsible for picking this hotel but thanks to Eurovision being held in Copenhagen, all hotels were charging 3 times the normal price/fully booked. We came from the airport via train and finding this place wasn't the easiest although it was close to the train station. The neighborhood it's in isn't the best. There's a strip club a few doors down and a love boutique a few feet away from this boutique hotel. The location is still pretty central and convenient though. By looking at the exterior, I was not thrilled about staying here even just overnight. 1/5 What changed my opinion was the super fabulous and hilarious front desk guy who checked us in. He looked at us with 2 pieces of luggage each and said, "oh you ladies packed light, I see" and proceeded to talk about the freaks from Eurovision. All of a sudden, I wasn't feeling grumpy and tired anymore. 5/5 The inside does not match the outside at all. The interior looks so clean and modern - from the lobby to the room. They have nice toiletries by Molton Brown. Free, fast and reliable wifi. Free breakfast buffet with a good selection of pastries, bread, meat, fruits, cereals, Nutella, yogurt, cheese, juice, tea, etc. 5/5 Excellent service, wifi, breakfast, comfortable and quiet room are the only things that really matter. Although the neighboring businesses are questionable, we were safe.

This is the only hotel you should be considering for your stay in Copenhagen in my opinion. After having a terrible morning of traveling, staff was gracious enough to check us in early AND upgrade our room for free. Hotel is a great location- walkable distance to everything. Hotel is clean and has a cool, swanky vibe. The room was amazing- two bathrooms?! Yes, yes. The room had a hair dryer, iron and conditioner which were much appreciated by two females. Room came with a phone you could use throughout the city. Maybe one of the best parts--- free wine hour from 5-6pm....yes, I said it. A nice opportunity to mingle if you so please and also they have a wide selection of wines which were tasty. I cannot day enough good things about this hotel, is absolutely stay again! Pics may be a tad blurry because they are still shots from a video I took.

My husband and I recently stayed at Andersen Boutique Hotel, and it is now my all time favorite hotel. They are environmentally conscious, pay attention to every detail and have unbelievably friendly and helpful people on staff! The hotel offers a complimentary "wine hour" between 5 and 6pm nightly. At around 4:48pm, guests take the elevator, the stairs and the front door to meet in the lobby, which is furnished with chairs, couches, stuffed animals, books, chess boards, etc. and wine. You'll find rubber duckies in your bathroom, goodies between floors if you opt for the stairs over the elevator. And if you decline housekeeping for any day in your stay, they offer you a choice of a gift. I could say much more, but instead I'll post some pictures. 5 Stars!

Had a single day and night here recently and I must say that I was pleasantly surprised. I am often in hotels in Copenhagen and given the street address for the Anderson, it could have all ended badly. Clean, new, trendy and very friendly. I can recommend it but be aware that the street after dark is not necessarily somewhere for a romantic stroll. It's worth noting that they have complimentary wine tasting from 5 each day. Now that's a crowd pleaser.

The breakfast buffet was delicious as well and had a variety of options. The room was nicely decorated, bed was comfy, heater worked well during the winter, and there were amenities that we weren't expecting (toothbrush, toothpaste tablet, etc). I'd definitely stay at a Guldsmeden hotel again!

From the quaint, secluded entrance (which looks like it is on an alleyway but it was an actual street!) to the plant-filled, cozy courtyard to the room to the common areas, I was so impressed with this historic yet contemporary property! It was our first night in Europe, and to say we were jetlagged from our eight-hour transoceanic flight is putting it mildly. But as soon as my head hit the pillow on the comfortable bed I was off to la-la land! And the breakfasts! Oh the breakfasts! Absolute best and most elaborate and varied breakfast of the trip! I have never before or since seen such an assortment of foods and beverages, including cereals, hot foods, salads (yes, salads!), cheeses, meats, breads, pastries, you name it! And the coffee was divine! You got your own pot at your table. And the service was extremely attentive and friendly. Also they had a free happy hour from 4 to 6 with wines, beers, cocktails and non-alcoholic beverages that was just divine. They even helped us find free surface parking, next to impossible in downtown Kobenhavn! They also recommended a great restaurant district only a block or two walking distance away! The staff also spoke impeccable English and were quick with a smile or to answer any questions you had. The only slight complaint was how small the guest room (and especially bathroom therein) was, and the fact that there were some stairs and a pretty tiny elevator, but only by US standards as I later learned. You have to realize these cities and many of the buildings in them are hundreds of years old! In summary, to say I'd like to return soon to the Kong Arthur Hotel is putting it mildly!

Not to mention it was really close to Torvehallerne Square, which is around an eight-minute walk from the hotel. I arrived early, before check-in, and the reception staff offered to hold my luggage so I could explore the city. They give you a code and place it in a locked and video-monitored closet down in the basement. It was easy to do and safe for your belongings. After some exploring, I returned to the hotel around 4 PM and finally checked in. I was pleasantly surprised to find out that my single room had been upgraded to a larger room for free. I was stoked to hear that and loved the room and location they gave me. The room was beautifully furnished and was very clean! The only downside is the no AC. The temperature that day was in the low 60s (60-63 degrees). This may sound nice, but it was rather toasty in my room. They had a standing fan that, unfortunately, did not rotate, but it helped somewhat. They give you very heavy-duty duvets that are better for winter weather, but thankfully, I opened some of the windows in my room, which made it more bearable to sleep at night. The staff here was so friendly and accommodating. It's very close to plenty of sights, attractions, and restaurants. I would definitely stay here again. It's a beautifully decorated hotel, with lovely rooms and an excellent location.

And a shout out to my yelpie Bridget W. and my trippy Mette for both cluing me onto this veritable hostel paradise! THE SETUP So what happened is on my flight out of Stockholm, Sweden, I ended up with a one (1) day layover in Copenhagen before going on to San Francisco. Now, this was PLANNED - I knew I had the layover: it was either this or pay $400 more for the next least expensive round trip between San Francisco and Stockholm (and back). As it turned out, I was already spending 10 days in the Baltic States with friends, hitting Sweden, Estonia, Russia and Finland. Unfortunately, there was no time in that itinerary to hit Denmark (nor Norway, for that matter, though technically, although also part of "Scandinavia", Norway is not a Baltic state). So an extra stop on the return leg in Copenhagen for a full day presented itself to me and I was happy to take it. DOWNTOWN DISTRICT AND CLOSE TO AIRPORT As soon as I jetted back into Copenhagen Airport (my 2nd time here in addition to my 1st two (2) hour layover in this airport on way to Stockholm), I jumped into the rail-car at the adjacent train station. Not more than 12 mins, I was at the downtown Central Train Station, and only a block and a half from Urban House! URBAN HOUSE It's right on the corner, with the front door in the middle of the block (just a block and a half up from one of the train station's entrances). https://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/urban-house-k%C3%B8benhavn-2?select=JZdnyOCkTnIibGTVoHJ-bA&userid=3mNz5nQFTIBQm0oU5mBR0w The fees are very reasonable: at the time I was making my reservation for the middle of July, it was $35 a night in a dorm room. I pulled the trigger on a SINGLE room with a bathroom for only $94.71/night. Easily just a third of the cost of even the more "moderately" priced hotels in Downtown Copenhagen, near the airport. And most of the time I would be on a walk-a-bout and not in the room anyways, so I didn't want to waste my money there. The room didn't have a TV anyways - entertainment was outside of the room. ENTERTAINMENT! ..and speaking of entertainment, Urban House had a full-on bar / cafe / "Student Union"-feel open area at street level. In fact, the guy serving beers, took a quick break so he could check me in. The gal that was serving breakfast the next day was the one who checked me out: as it turns out, a good consolidation of tasks combined in their multi-talented staff. I ventured out in the afternoon and evening (twice actually) to grab some excellent Thai food back in the Train Station. And then again to a bar a few blocks away that was hosting a Jazz festival. There was plenty to do, places to eat, immerse oneself into the night life, all within blocks of Urban House. No car needed. THE ROOM As mentioned no TV, but that was not missed. There was a desk and chair which was nice since this is where I spent any of my waking-time while in the room. https://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/urban-house-k%C3%B8benhavn-2?select=NuynCk7VfBPS6-Fn4XhFuQ&userid=3mNz5nQFTIBQm0oU5mBR0w The bathroom was a fascinating engineered piece of configuration, especially when it came to the adjacent proximity of the toilet and shower: a good economy of space! https://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/urban-house-k%C3%B8benhavn-2?select=AJLhvC82t2aCaZBooEwbAw&userid=3mNz5nQFTIBQm0oU5mBR0w There are never enough pillows wherever I go (hotel, motel, etc.), and unfortunately, this went doubly so for this. It's rare when I have to dip into my travel gear and find a jacket and extra pair of pants and fold/roll them up just so I can get a bit more height on the shallow pillow they give you. It is what it is. https://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/urban-house-k%C3%B8benhavn-2?select=T9RWvTNb8ZgaFlkcvFW5uw&userid=3mNz5nQFTIBQm0oU5mBR0w THE LOWDOWN A reasonably affordable stop when touring through Copenhagen. Should I find myself traveling alone in this fair city once more, I totally would consider staying here again.
