It really bothers me that hundreds of paintings and drawings I did for my books were sent by my publisher to Taiwan for scanning over the years, when you have been here doing such excellent work at such reasonable prices, all along. When discussing a project, both Michelle and Jim will bring up things you might not have thought of, such as things that might cause issues or options that might save you money. For example, what were designed as black and white pages in my dual bw/color project were stilled viewed in their printer as color because the computer-operated printer could detect shades of color within the black. Michelle worked a little magic to force those bw pages to print as such. There was a small charge for her time to do this, but it ended up saving me thousands by printing those pages as bw rather than color. Jim and Michelle are very easy to work with and certainly know what they are doing. It is nice to be able to talk directly with the bosses! I have several more projects in mind and I know who I'll be going to when the time comes to print them. The end result is that my projects come out looking very professional. I couldn't be more pleased.

However, because this was my first time working with them, and because I required an unusual and critical image size, I elected to drop off my image file in person. At that time I discussed my "vision" and expectations for the final image with one of the partners. Though I was ordering only a single print my questions were addressed and I felt valued as a customer. The "meeting" wasn't long, but I wasn't made to feel rushed. I left feeling confident that I'd found a collaborator rather than a vendor. Upon inspection, the print itself is exactly what I hoped for. Working with a local printer -- a partner in the final product -- definitely paid off. Will repeat.

They recently worked with us on ordering over 17 jackets and 17 different hats for our fall photo shoot for our company's website and the hands-on assistance in obtaining just the right jacket for so many different body styles was very much appreciated. The attention to detail on the embroidery and screen printing is the best I have seen. I had the privilege of attending a studio tour of the facilites where he produces his art. Stationery, business cards, invitations, certificates...you name it and he can print it. Have him print an invoice; that too will end up looking like an artifact :) He took the time to walk us through the entire process and patiently answered all our (mostly my) questions. He even allowed us to print little booklets and sent up back with souvenirs. His website is a great intro to his work, but if you can setup some time with him to visit the studio, you will fall in love with this method of print. Oh, I should also mention that he even tooled his own equipment to make his own paper at some point. Interesting process, interesting work and an interesting guy behind it all who is willing answer any questions you have (regardless of your print experience). Don't just check out the studio, give him your business and support a true craftsman.

When Kent Aldrich began his printing business over twenty years ago there were fewer and fewer real…read moreletterpress printers around because it had become easier and cheaper to print with more modern methods, and with the dawn of desktop publishing pretty much everybody became a printer. His choice to go into this business is tied to who he is as a person rather than what kind of career would make a lot of money. The quality and value of his work has provided for his family and a good life. Quality and value. That, really, is all that this review needs to say. There are now many more people experimenting with letter press in Minnesota, and some are pretty good. But I doubt that there are any who are in the same category as Nomadic Press in terms of quality and value. His dedication to traditional and time-honored methods of production and service alone puts Nomadic in a separate category, but he is also an artist with considerable taste and heart who can guide the customer to the best available result in the market. My business cards are not only read, but literally fondled by people I hand them to. They have weight, texture and they mean business. The Pantone colors specified by the designer were perfectly matched in the inks mixed by Kent.
