22 years ago (exactly half our lifetime) my future husband and I made a memory at Ancient Art. I am so excited that Ancient Art is still going strong. I walked into to this tattoo shop looking to make an appointment for my first tattoo. I showed the artist what I wanted and was told that it was stupid and he would not do it where I wanted it to be. I was really taken aback but told him that I still wanted it and would be willing to make an appointment. He then wouldn't let me make an appointment and said I could try walking in every day to see if he could take me. I decided to leave and go to Rarely Suspect instead and was met with a much better appreciation. read more

He was so nice and professional, he walked me through the entire process and you could tell he knew exactly what he was doing. I got a rook piercing done in my right ear in May 2018. It never healed. I followed all aftercare instructions and I have had multiple successful cartilage piercings prior to this one, at different places however. Two years later, it still hurt, it still oozed lymph fluid, the ridge of cartilage underneath was still swelled up despite the absence of infection. I got it looked at by the piercer who did my other most recent piercing, and she said that the angle of my rook piercing was done wrong. This made it difficult for her to change jewelry out. tl;dr: I paid a LOT of money for a piercing that never healed and my trusted usual piercer said had been done wrong. read more

My roommate and I have been here a couple of times. She got her inner lip tattooed and I got my tongue pierced, and had my web piercing jewelry changed by Vicki. Every time we've called we have been sassed by the receptionist about how they are all booked up. Additionally, the receptionist is not very friendly or welcoming and their service overall isn't very great and I don't feel super welcome being there. On another note, their piercer is pretty good and has changed my web multiple times and was very patient for my tongue piercing. She is professional and very thorough in her explanations of aftercare. I would recommend ancient art only for piercings, but if you are looking for tattoos, go somewhere more welcoming and that actually makes you feel like they want to accept your money. read more

Had quite a bit of back and forth with Justin, to get the art-work right and so on, as it's forever. I could not have been more satisfied with his response time and professional manor. His artwork was over the top. Spent 5 hrs. plus in the chair and the experience could not have been better, I would highly recommend Justin Strong, can't speak to the other folks, but would expect them to be the same. Absolutely would not recommend this place for a piercing. For starters, they charge an outrageous price to put a cheap earring in your ear that causes so many issues. They knew I had no other piercings with them and failed to give me any information regarding after treatment. My friend that was with me had to tell me what to do. Again, nothing but issues with the piercing from this place. I had been trying to get them to help me out on multiple occasions by visiting the store and was totally dismissed. Went somewhere else to replace the earring. That place told me how horrible of a job the piercing place (this place) had done. A few months went by and still had issues, tried to get this place to help me again- nope. Went somewhere else today and they told me the piercing done by a dude at this place was totally crooked and butchered. I ended up having to pay someone else to help me take out the earring (because no one at this place would give me the time of day and were so rude). Luckily someone was able to actually provide information and be a genuine, friendly person. Absolute disgraceful place. Drive to Christiansburg- save the money AND the issues/ infections. read more

I went in for a nose piercing today, and I had an AMAZING experience. Vicki is the absolute best. I literally felt nothing at all, and I didn't even tear up like a lot of people say you will with nose piercings. She was really nice and really patient with me while I was freaking out before the piercing, but it took all of 3 seconds and again, absolutely no pain. I highly recommend her! read more

Let me tell you a story about this place. About four months ago, I decided to get my middle ear pierced. According to the man who pierced it, I would be completely healed in three months. After three months passed, I noticed that I was still having puss and blood come from my ear. This was confusing, and as the crazy hypochondriac I am, naturally I began to panic. I put hydrogen peroxide on it and Neosporin which seemed to clear it up, so I was not too worried. After a couple of these trials, I noticed that my ear was only getting worse. The keloid that was behind my ear had fallen off (literally what the fuck) but I realized this morning that it had grown back. After many google searches that said I was likely to die in the next two hours, I decided to ask my friend (an aspiring neurosurgeon) to help me take out the earring. After a couple minutes of twisting the ball that connected the earring, we decided it was a lost cause. I called Ancient Art and the lady at the front desk said they could "pop it out" for me. POP IT OUT. Me and my posse of three friends made our way to Ancient Art. Upon walking in, the lady at the front desk who I talked to five minutes earlier asked me what I needed. I told her that my ear was infected and I wanted the earring taken out. After looking at my ear that was covered in BLOOD, PUSS, and was extremely SWOLLEN, she deemed it "not infected." OOOOOOK. She said they could still take it out though. Next thing I know, I am sitting in the chair laying back with the same guy who put this GOD FORSAKEN piercing in my ear getting ready to take it out. He asked me, "who did this to your ear?" Upon which I responded, "You. Literally you pierced this." To my dismay, he pulls the earring out. Easily the most painful thing I have ever experienced. He was not graceful at all. He has the audacity to say, "I think you need antibiotics." HAHA. After we left, my ear was more swollen. After breaking down in tears (naturally) we finally arrive at Velocity Care. I tell the doctors whats up and they look at my ear absolutely disgusted. After SQUEEZING my ear, she decides I need a shot. A shot? Cool. NOPE. In my ASS. One shot in my ass, a fainting episode, and two antibiotics later, I am cured. You have been forewarned. P.S. My friend and I went in to get navel piercings around 6pm. The man who gave us the information about the piercings and took payment was rude and short with us when we asked basic questions. However, Sean the body piercer was very professional about the piercing, and it was quick and easy! Usually love this place, have gotten multiple piercings and a couple of small tattoos done here. However if you're planning on getting even a medium sized tattoo that you actually care about size and placement for, request zach. Cory did two of mine and while they turned out great it took the process of first judging me for caring about the size, then literally bitching me out because he couldn't print it right. I was clear on my explanation of what i wanted but i've never seen someone so dramatic because he couldn't figure it out. Bitched to the manager right in front of me saying he was about to give up on this, and then asked another tattoo artist, again in front of me, if they wanted to do it because he wasn't into it. claimed he had health issues last week and 'shouldn't have to deal with this'. Mind you i was getting just a quote in simple typewriter font, not some intricate piece. He acted like tattooing me was charity work. Ended up doing a good job but if you're sensitive to customer service try to avoid him. I normally don't care at all but i've actually never been disrespected so hard, other people in the store even noticed. I'm still shocked by him because the store is overall really good, just be careful to avoid him at all costs. read more
