We really enjoyed our stay at the Anchor Pier Lodge in Newport. We stayed two nights in the Surfer Dude suite, which was extremely spacious and well-outfitted with thoughtful touches and everything we needed. We loved sitting on the private balcony watching the fishing boats go by and sea lions play. The sea lions barking was quite charming and a natural part of Newport -- like the traffic of New York City. Street parking was never an issue, but it's November and not high season, so that's not surprising. We really liked being able to walk out the door of our room and find dinner, breakfast, coffee, bars, and places to stroll and shop, all without getting in the car. We would for sure stay at Anchor Pier Lodge again! read more

This place is an amazing find. Good value and B&B style decor. Perfect location right on the water. Upon checkin, my first thought was, I wonder if they rent rooms by the month. Staff in downstairs gift store were great and I was even able to park my motorcycle right near my room (car parking a different thing). Internet also worked well enough for email /VPN. Only down side, as previously mentioned, were the seal lions which barked all night. I tried the provided earplugs and sleep sound machine but finally resorted to my iPod, earbuds and some long meditation tracks to get some sleep. I have stayed here 3 times now and will be going back again. I found this place by accident on a motorcycle trip up the coast and was in need of a place to stay. While having diner down the street at Rogue Tap Room, I came across this place on line and called for a room. Friendliest people you can ever meet. During the conversation I mentioned where I was and when I arrived found a nice note and a "dead guy " (Rogue Dead Guy Ale) in the sink on ice. I was offered premium parking for my motorcycle under the awning. The rooms are themed and I stayed in the Captains Quarters. Great bay view. NOTE: They make no mistake about warning you about the barking seals. Yes they bark, yes they are loud. You are supplied ear plugs and sound machines in each room, and even with the double paned windows, it can be loud. Personally I loved it and it did not bother me at all. So much so that when I took my family up the coast, it was one of the highlights of our trip. I have also stayed in the Coastal Garden Room and the Bayfront History room (this room hears much less of the seals). The website pictures do it justice, the service, cleanliness and attention to detail is second to none. WiFi is good, fridge and microwave in the room and plenty to see, do and eat in the surrounding few blocks on the waterfront. Car parking .. you are on your own. We were able to park right in front both times we were there in our car but it was winter/off season so that may play a factor. read more

Let me first say that the accommodations here are top notch. The staff is also first class. You may be wondering why did I give it only three stars? For two reasons: 1) Sea Lions bark incessantly outside 2) No parking included If you are not a super light sleeper, and/or can deal with earplugs, the sea lions won't be a problem. The parking was not too bad because there was a hill close by that we were able to park on all night, for free, it's a bit of a walk up the hill, especially if you have bags, but not that bad. If they would have told me ahead of time about this, I may be inclined to give them an extra star. The room was super cool. There are only five, each individually themed. Everything inside is modern; they each have a private balcony overlooking the bay. Ours even had a hot tub for two. We loved the room but hated the sea lions. The Anchor Pier is located directly on the bay, and their main business is running sea tours. After a sleepless night we decided to take one and it made our stay worth it. The captain of the boat used to be an Alaskan crabber (one of the deadliest catch captains was his deckhand). Anyways, we boarded the "Discovery" and the captain knew exactly where to take us to see several whales and other marine life. Along with the skipper there is a marine biologist that tells you all about the sea creatures. The tour is truly a wonderful experience. Seeing so many whales and learning so much about our ocean was worth it. I probably won't go back here, a bit touristy for me and above all noisy, but the place is unique, rooms are wonderful and the staff is very helpful. Stay here if you want something close to restaurants, bars and can sleep through just about anything. You won't be disappointed in the quality of the Anchor Pier, they have this part more that right. read more

This place is wonderful! I was looking for someplace to surprise my husband that wasn't "the normal, everyday hotel". I stumbled across this place after searching several different sites. I was greeted very kindly when I called to inquire about the rooms. I was warned of the Sea Lions and the ships moving in and out of the harbor. They had their Ocean Side room available so I grabbed that and off we went. Upon arrival it is a bit hard to find, we drove past it twice. You check in at the gift shop and enter the hotel area from a door off the mail street. Very James Bond like. Opening the door to your room you are greeted with a warm, well lit room. Each room has a noise maker that sounds like the ocean. Our room had candles and a gas fireplace, as well as the jetted tub. The bed was most comfortable. We had a fabulous dinner at Gino's down the street and retired to our room. Now, the only down fall of this hotel would be the Sea Lions. At first they are cute and interesting, at 3am in the morning you may get the urge to shoot them. If you are at all affected or irritated by noises that wake you up, don't stay here. Hubby and I just turned on the TV and went back to sleep. If we had gone to sleep with the TV on, we probably wouldn't have been woken up. Who knows. Anyway, I can't speak for all the hotel rooms, but ours was absolutely beautiful, warm and comfortable. The proximity to the Old Bay Front is great, once parked, there is no need to get back in your car until you leave. Plenty of restaurants, bars, shopping, etc. read more

Great place! Owners are very hands on and other staff are great too. Our first stay was a year ago, we will be going again this year for sure. We enjoyed everything about this little magic hideaway from the room decor, to the whale watching voyage I highly recommend! I almost don't want to tell too many people about it. lol It is definitely a find. read more

This may seem odd as we haven't stayed here yet, however while we walking around the gift shop, a lovely lady named FRAN , offered to give us a personal tour of one of the rooms in case we'd like to stay on our next visit. We looked at the surfer themed room , as all the rooms have themes. It was fantastic !! The bathroom had surfboard counter tops , it had a romantic garden top looking out over the bay. There was a private deck. The room was cozy and FRAN was so sweet like a neighbor. Oh we will be back to stay here . I have been coming to Newport all my life , and we always go down to the bay front. Thank you FRAN , we will be back on our anniversary, in Novemeber read more

Amazing lodging! Loved every second of my stay! All the rooms are fantastic and amazing views. The coffee directly downstairs at Surf Town is absolutely fantastic. All you have to do is wake up and walk downstairs and you're good for the day! The room I stayed in was the bayfront history room. Amazingly comfortable bed, great view from the balcony, and the amenities are superb! The sea lions didn't bother me one little bit, but just in case you're a light sleeper, there are earplugs and a nice noise machine provided. The best hotel I've ever stayed in. I loved this place! I was looking for a mini vacation to eat, relax, and do a little shopping. This hotel was located near everything I needed for eating and shopping, while the room with my own little balcony and spa tub gave me the relaxation I needed. There are sea lions right outside the lodge but you are warned about this when you call to book your reservation. They also let you know that they do not have a parking lot but I had no trouble finding parking right across the street with their instructions. The room itself was beautiful and unique, far from the stereotypical beach hotel rooms. The spa tub was wonderful, the bed was very comfortable and the mini fridge and microwave was very convenient for storing leftovers and wine (wine opener provided). The staff is available downstairs in the shop for anything you need during business hours, and are just a phone call away any other time. I didn't want to stay at a typical hotel but B&B's aren't my thing. This place was the perfect compromise for me. Definitely recommend! read more

Staying at Anchor Pier Lodge seriously made my entire vacation. I haven't been on a real vacation since choir tour in college, due to health, lack of money, or lack of time. I finally got to a point where I could spend a little money and plan a short trip to the Oregon Coast for me and my boyfriend, and when I called to book a spot for us with Marine Discovery Tours, the person who made my reservation mentioned that they had lodging. I looked at the pictures online and knew it was the right spot for us. The Captains Quarters is a beautiful, spacious private room with a little deck over the harbor. The sea lions were migrating while we were there, so we didn't have the problems with noise that other guests have mentioned (the hotel provides ear plugs and a white noise machine in any case). There aren't a lot of amenities, but there is a two-cup coffee maker and mini-fridge in the room, and we were allowed use of the washing machine and dryer in the hallway if needed (not coin-op). The cool breeze from the bay, the calls of seagulls, and watching the boats go in and out of the harbor was lovely and relaxing, and there are plenty of activities in the area, many within walking distance and others just a few minutes drive, including the marine tour, lighthouses, the aquarium, uncrowded public beaches with the softest sand I've ever stepped in, and great food. We will definitely be back. read more
