I've been studying Argentine Tango with AnaLinda Marcus and her assistant Paul Walcott for almost two years. It has been extremely rewarding. Argentine Tango is not a dance you learn in ten minutes and then jump onto the dance floor. On the other hand, with sound teaching methods you will get on your way fairly quickly, and build from there. The best initiation into the dance is the thoughtful, clear and joyful instruction of teachers like AnaLinda and Paul. With them you get a well-grounded explanation of body mechanics and really understand the reason for *Why Things Are* in Argentine Tango. :) This pertains to the physical level, as well as fascinating and helpful sociological and cultural contexts which have created the dance as it is today. She boils it down elegantly and concisely, and after a mere hour or two of working with her you will really feel elevated and in possession of a basic Tango education, confident enough to start dancing. In my personal experience, I've been taking private lessons with her as often as possible for a year and a half now, and this has really accelerated my learning and given me great form. And it's been a blast! What Tango Embrace offers is ongoing (usually monthly) 3-hour crash courses at a gorgeous South End art gallery that has a perfect sprung wood floor for dancing. AnaLinda teaches private lessons and more advanced small-group classes there at Movimiento Gallery as well. There are also six-week beginner series at prime locations in the Boston area (at the time of my review, at the Dance Complex in Central Square, Cambridge). They also host a monthly milonga (formal social dance) where you can put all that you've learned into use in a festive and welcoming setting. The art gallery vibe is romantic and transporting, with Golden Age Tango playing, exquisite art on the walls, tasty snacks and drinks and a friendly group of fellow dance enthusiasts of all different levels of ability.
