Really good food, but I waited at my chair for delivery for an HOUR! Food runners at OTG don't give a DARN!

I recently took a dump. I just needed to self check-out with an iPad to recreate an OTG experience.

Every eatery here at Newark is a chain, the infamous Steak Escape is no different. I have probably…read moreeaten here more times than I'd like to admit, but when the neighboring food stands don't open early or stay open late, beggars can't be choosers. It can be best summed up at this: skip their "famous" cheesesteaks and just go for their overpriced breakfast. It's not exactly diner quality stuff, but at the very least there is enough variety to keep people interested. Service is pretty atrocious, enough to where it's best to figure out what you want ahead of time instead of asking the counter folks. I've seen too many visitors try to do this, only to get shot down every time. It also helps minimize the risk of having to rush to your flight, which is something most people have to consider when dining in at an airport. I give them an extra star for offering hashbrowns. Not the McDonalds patty kind, but actual shredded, grilled hashbrowns.

Ordered the "cheesesteak mignon" only after asking the employee at the counter if it contained any…read morepork. Let's face it, "mignon" is often the word places use to indicate "wrapped in bacon", as inappropriately as they use "-holic" to indicate addiction or "-gate" to indicate a scandal (there's gotta be a word for that, right?), so I wanted to be sure. Pork makes me nauseous, but the employee told me the sandwich contained only steak so I placed the order. The first half of my sandwich was gross and I wasn't sure why. When I picked up the second half, I opened it up to find several pieces of bacon. Note to the employee: BACON COUNTS AS PORK. I removed the bacon and the second half of the sandwich was delicious. I'd give the place at least three stars for the taste and quality of the portion of my sandwich that wasn't oozing with pig, but they lose all stars because YOU DO NOT EVER TELL SOMEONE A DISH IS FREE OF PORK UNLESS YOU ARE SURE. And this goes as well for beef, shellfish, gluten, phenylalanine, red 40, ANYTHING. Tell me you're not sure about a dish and I'll pick something else. Tell me you are sure, and you lose a customer forever if you're wrong..

Gateway Center - Skywalk connecting Gateway Center to Newark Penn Station

The Gateway is to me just as the name implies - a gateway between Downtown Newark and Newark Penn…read moreStation. Beyond traversing between the two is a large business building. Most of my visits here have actually been for that - business for one of my clients family attorney. Several floors up after getting clearance is a fancy suite where I'm sure high profile law meetings take place as it is extremely high end looking and assume the other floors look the same. In the main area is an extension of what Newark Penn Station is like, New York Penn as well with various shops to consider before you travel. From what I can tell it serves it's purpose. An upscale office building complete with security, an art gallery on the lower level but shops that offer passage to Downtown Newark and Newark Penn. There is a parking garage just outside of the building that I find handy in my visits here.

If you commute into and out of Newark, Gateway Center is very convenient - especially when it's…read moreraining or snowing outside. If you are traveling into Newark Penn Station, you can get to Mulberry Street (one block from Broad Street) through Gateway's skyway. On your way, you can get a coffee or a quick grab-and-go snack at one of the shops inside. There are two Dunkin' Donuts, two Subways, and a few non-big-chain eateries (Nagoyaka, City Beans, COTIDIANO, Metro Café, etc.). There are also a few convenience stores, a New York Sports Club, and the Gateway Project Spaces. You can also enter the Hilton Gateway from inside Gateway Center. Gateway is comprised of four corporate buildings (1, 2, 3, and 4 Gateway). Midday, office workers will flood the skyway getting lunch or heading outside during their break. On a Devils night, many fans use the Gateway to get to Prudential Center, which is on Mulberry Street. Again, the best thing about Gateway is its convenience. My only forewarning is - during off-peak times of the day - be alert. While there is security during the work week, security presence isn't as visible during the weekend. I had a bad experience where a homeless man grabbed my arm when I wouldn't give him money, and no one was around to help me. This isn't a common occurrence, but just be careful.
