As I entered the shop on a Friday afternoon, two girls bearing the same wavy blond bob, glasses, and even exhibiting similar mannerisms greeted me! I asked if they were twins, and we all had a good giggle as they explained no, they just sort of merged into the same person after spending so much time working together. Isn't it funny how that sometimes happens? They were both friendly and helpful, explaining how to dispense the bulk products, and happily answering questions. A small thing that is such a helpful idea, is that they accept donated reusable containers, so if you forget your own, or, like me, happen upon the shop without having previously planned on stopping by, you are free to use any of these bottles! The bulk goods consist of body, beauty, and home products. Featured brands are recognizably good ones: EO, Biokleen, Mountain Rose Herbs, and Meow Meow Tweet (you can even grab a bit of their well-reviewed natural deodorant!). In addition to the bulk offerings, they sell regular size natural makeup and beauty products, lots again from Meow Meow Tweet, Fat and the Moon, and others. They even have reusable period pads and cups. SLC, you're getting so progressive! In addition, there were creative planters and ceramic containers, gorgeously fragranced candles, a variety of incense, clever greeting cards, notebooks and other stationary, pretty reusable totes and bags, and jewelry. Most (maybe all?) are hand crafted, some locally. There was even a small rack of vintage clothing! Prices are reasonable; though do not expect overly cheap bulk prices. As the products on offer are high quality, you will pay accordingly, and it's worth it!

I also heard that they do offer food composting for 60 cents a gallon out back which was a godsend since my new 'hood doesn't do composting (and it's too early in the season to use for planting). The shop is super cute, clean and organized. Parking is very easy out front (no payment required). The vibrant woman working there was ultra helpful and friendly (she even remembered to text me when one of the products I asked about came in). She showed us around and let us know how things worked. I ended buying a lot more than I planned (including their kombucha! cinnamon apple -- yum!), and I am happy with all of their products so far. The rose deodorant is amazing. I have yet to try the epsom salts, but am excited to. The shop overall is a little bit expensive, but I'd much rather pay more to live responsibly. Composting price is a steal though -- definitely my go-to now.

Inside, it is small; featuring a limited selection of women's clothing, including intimates like panties and bralettes, along with a few accessories, mostly jewelry. All pretty basic, and nothing terrifically exciting. The majority of items are their own brand. Prices are relatively cheap, with corresponding product quality. As I entered, I noticed the employee at the front desk playing on his phone. He glanced up to greet me, and then got right back to business. Now, even if he had been friendlier and more available I still would not have made a purchase (this store just is not my style), and he was not rude, but....I don't know. Make some sort of effort. His boredom was poorly masked, and roused no thrill for shopping in myself.

A cute sort of home goods/apparel/gift shop, my attention was certainly captured by a few especially gorgeous items: Silk koi pajamas, cute bagged candies and Rice Krispie treats, and snazzy décor. It's a deliciously decorated store, and a delight to wander. Unfortunately, while some goods were marked down from their regular non-outlet price, not everything was, and that's what caught me. Those aforementioned (discounted) jammies were like $200, and much as I adored them, I didn't love them THAT much. I did not recognize the majority of brands, and while that doesn't really mean anything, I have to admit I might have been more inclined to buy such pricey products if I was more familiar with the maker. From what I could tell, though, everything was high quality. I'd say shop here for the hard-to-please/have-everything sort of people in your life. Or, if in the mood to treat yourself at least check it out. Tl;Dr: A purchase at this store was a giant headache. The store owner is a very poor communicator…read moreand did not honor the original agreement despite repeated requests to do so. I won't return. This turned out to be such a strange interaction with Urban Vintage. I bought a lamp ($300) and was told when I purchased it that rewiring and new hardware (harp) were included if I wanted that. (See original review). I definitely did want that as the cord and the hardware were quite aged, unsightly and somewhat corroded. I left the purchased lamp at the store and waited for the work to be done. A few weeks later I received a text from the owner, Brett, who then called me to argue that a 40 year old lamp doesn't require rewiring. He spent 5 whole minutes explaining how the technology is the same today as 40 years ago and then asked if I still want the wiring replaced, to which I replied yes. He then told me it will be $50+ to replace the harp hardware and asked if I plan to use the existing shade (which the lamp did not have when I was in the store at the time of purchase) or if I would need a different size harp for a different shade size. I didn't need a shade and didn't know one was included when I purchased the lamp since it didn't have a shade on it at the time, so I asked if I could get a discount on the harp replacement (that I was originally told was included). I asked this question three times and Brett never answered my question. All he would say is that the price of the lamp is the same whether I take the shade or not and that I can choose the harp size I need when I come pick up the lamp. When I went back to the store to pick up the lamp, Brett told me that they had already chosen the right harp size and placed it on the lamp and it should not be changed and that I should not use a different size shade. I then asked how he determined that and he said it's based on the shade size, removed the existing shade and turned it on its side and said the diameter of the shade should be the same height as the lamp. But the shade was 4 inches shorter than the lamp. Oops. So then I asked why he's included a shade with the lamp that's too small based on his own explanation. He then went in to an elaborate explanation using an example of another lamp in the store from the Netherlands with a mini pleated shade from the 1980s as an example of how it's all just an artistic expression based on his lamp expertise and I should just trust him. This was the most convoluted and unnecessarily complex interaction to avoid any further discussion on changing the harp size that he had previously asked me to choose a size for, that I had previously been told I could customize, for the original price of the lamp, which again, was $300. I paid the additional $56 for the harp that was chosen for me, and got out of there. Needless to say, I won't be a repeat customer.

This shop has an incredible selection of pristine condition mid century furniture and is very fairly priced. Will ALWAYS start here in the future!
