Attended by over 135 people, the staff handled things well starting with the valet parking and coatroom attendant. The tables were nicely arranged around the dance floor and we started with a very nice salad, followed by some penne pasta. Attendees were able to choose one of three entrees and the vast majority went with the Filet Mignon. My filet was terrific! Our meal concluded with a nice sundae bar. The maitre d was quite effective, keeping things moving along. Our server was nice enough to pack up 2 meals for individuals that could not attend due to illness.

During the author's speaking engagement, towards the end, the wait staff started bringing out bread and butter, along with our salads. Not sure why this happened while the author was speaking, but that seemed odd to many of us. After the author ended her presentation, and we were all done with our salads, they started bringing out our main course, (which we had a choice of 1 of 4- Filet Mignon, Chicken Francaise, Grilled Norwegian Salmon and Eggplant Rollatini). I ordered the Chicken Francaise. Many of us, including myself, said it was very dry and little sauce. The same was said about the Salmon. A friend of mine ordered the Filet Mignon. It was not the way she asked for it to be cooked and was very grainy and fatty. Eventually they took it back and brought her out another one. She said it was good. For dessert, we needed to go up to get our own coffee or tea and they brought out a platter of chocolate chip cookies and fudge brownies. They both had a taste of refrigeration. So that leads me to believe they were not fresh. I realize it was a large group, but they do all sorts of party events, with groups of up to 500 people. Just wanted to share my experience and hope someone at the event center reads it and makes some changes.

A single, small elevator--furnished with a small love-seat bench, which seemed slightly unnecessary and space-stealing for the limited number of floors housed in The Acorn Club--brought us to the second floor and its dining room. The Acorn Club's dining room is absolutely beautiful: especially the blue, damask wallpaper and the glittering chandeliers and wall sconces. The table seats and cloth napkins (both shades of dusky rose) were luxurious to the touch and the table settings were impeccable. Food-wise, the appetizer and dessert stole the show. The butternut squash soup was piping hot, creamy, and delicious--very similar to the version my mother makes for holidays. And the chocolate-and-vanilla mousse garnished with milk and white chocolate shavings was perfect (as was the almond lace cookie I may have also sampled). Meanwhile, the main course of (dry) chicken and (overdressed) salad was only so-so. Service-wise, the servers was a little surlier than you might expect in that setting, but for one of my fellow diners a polite and slightly apologetic response for putting her water glass too far to the center of the table seemed to break the ice enough to allow the server to seem less resentful. I chose Eagle Oaks as number 650 because golf is near and dear to my heart and I was treated a spectacular day. For those who don't golf, it is truly wonderful to play at a country club. Why? The experience is completely different from a public/municipal golf course. From the tee time process, to the amenities, to the quality of play so on and so forth it is top notch. Unfortunately I am unable to afford a membership at a private golf club. Hopefully after my children finish college I may be able to swing it. Country club golfing is not just about the golf, it becomes your lifestyle. Social gatherings, Dinners, card games, cigar rooms, pool, gym, sauna etc. The staff at Eagle oaks are second to none, professional and kind. I was very impressed with the members I met, all very welcoming which is unusual. The course itself is top of the line, excellent conditions, perfectly rolled greens, tee boxes that are immaculate. Many dog legs, island par 3's and green grass. Not much more to say except if you get the opportunity to play the course....don't give it a second thought and bring your A game.
