Do you want to hire someone reliable for your event? I really wanted to hire her for our son's very special 1st bday. Elizabeth was an awful person to deal with from the beginning. She asked event location and date so I responded to her through the text messages. She told me she will get back to me because she was driving... She forgot so I had to asked her a day after if she checked her schedule. And then she asked me again the date and event location... So she said "I don't have old text messages, can you send me the date and location so I can send you the contract?" And again and again... we spoke about this event less than 24 hours ago but she can't scroll down the text message history to see what event we are talking about?! The funny thing is... she said "I sent you the contract through your email so check your junk mail". I asked "Do you know my email address?" of course, she couldn't answer my question because she didn't sent the contract. Hahaha Are you joking with me? Elizabeth is a joke. She has no interest in peoples special day. Look at all the reviews...they say the same thing on repeat. -No show -No contact day of event -bad attitude if she does show -deposit or pre paid and did not receive my money back -ignored -doesn't come prepared -if she does show, shows late blah blah blah My 3 year old deserved better than Elizabeth. We all do, unfortunately anyone can open up a business these days. No ethics test or I'm a good human test. It took me two days to get a response from her and to get my deposit back after Elizabeth NO Showed on my 3 year old. Literally NO showed. No call. No text. AND ignored our calls and texts for 2 days. Once we finally got a hold of her; -No apologies -No remorse I don't actually know Elizabeth but boy, does she tells us everything we need to know through her actions, business acumen and inconsideration. She may try to write underneath this comment and gas light or make up more lies or even a half witted apology BUT don't fall for it people. Don't hire her because you can't depend on her! read more

This is a neat place because it's off the boardwalk area near the USS MIDWAY, and the area is very family-friendly, it has a Balboa Park vibe to me. I'm not a fan of being around a lot of people but I love the water. On the day that we went it was my daughter's 10th birthday. It was windy outside so the face painter's stands kept falling down. She persevered. The prices were unbelievably low! We found a deal on Yelp for $30 for $20 and redeemed it on the visit. My daughter was able to get two small henna tattoos, a beautiful face painting and a black and white caricature! I was very pleased with the pricing. At first I was disappointed that the henna paste wasn't darker because as soon as we left my daughter accidentally smeared it and it only resembled a light brown with a hint of yellow. It was too light to show up on her skin. After a few hours I am pleased to report that the paste darkened and left a beautiful tattoo that she will remember. Honestly, it had been such a long time since my last henna tattoo that I forgot how dark the paste could get. It was perfect! My disappointment was with the caricature artist. It was already after closing time but I asked him in advance of he would have time for one more. He agreed and again I had high hopes. When my daughter sat for the drawing I asked him to do something different to her hair in the picture, because I had seen other pictures that he did with crowns, tiaras, etc...he made the young girl or boy a superhero. I guess I should have been more specific because I was not pleased with what I got. I paid him a $5 tip because he stayed longer but as we were leaving another family approached and wanted caricatures that would be around $40+ so he was making business by staying later. Anyhow, i had previously mentioned to him that it was my daughter's birthday. I thought he would jazz it up with some balloons or something in the background, even a happy birthday or a cake. Nope, he did none of the above! He did the absolute bare-minimum with our caricature and I felt some type of way about that. Anyway, like previously stated I tipped him for his time (and tipped the henna artist) and left. By the way, my daughter likes the caricature so that's all that matters to me...mostly. This is the worst business we've ever dealt with. I've been to so many kids parties with face painting and caricature and I've never seen a business/artist/owner as worst as this one. We hired Amusement Artist for my niece's birthday. Elizabeth was suppose to come from 3-5. An hour into the event, there was no word from her. Finally an hour later, she replies and asks for the address, which means she hasn't even started leaving from wherever she was. No apologies for being late or anything. When she came, she had the worst attitude and made it seem like she didn't want to be there. Everyone could get that vibe from her. She also came with 2 face paint colors and had to borrow more face paint from my niece. What kind of face paint artist comes with only 2 face paint colors? Her face painting was terrible. One of the kid's asked for a princess and she drew some lines and the whole princess head was missing. Don't even get me started on her caricature drawings. She was obviously rushing through them as she came late and was trying to get out of there. None of the drawings looked like the kids and they all looked the same. Save yourself some money and look for another face painting and caricature artist unless you want someone with an attitude, shows up late, and doesn't even know how to draw. read more

Normally, I'm not one to write reviews but since my experience working with Elizabeth was so unprofessional I felt the need to share. First, I want to say the actual artist sent for my event was very nice and professional, called to let me know they were running a little late and stayed to make up that time. Now in regards to the booking process, according to Yelp they claim to have a 3 hour response time. In my case, responses were not speedy. I had booked for a face painter and balloon twist. Day of the event my artist arrived and I set them up at a table and I saw no balloons so I kindly asked her if someone else was coming to which she was unaware. I called Elizabeth for clarification and I was amazed with the tone she took with me on the phone. I quote "you know what I'm very busy on Saturday's and I'll take a look at your contract." Very cold, showed no remorse, and completely unprofessional. Later, I see a text message saying her 'booking manager' booked the wrong artist. Again, there was no apology for the inconvenience or any concern a mistake was made. I had to request for an updated invoice and was sent one 29 hours later. This revised invoice was incorrect and I had to send her a screen shot of her service prices and a break down of what my balance should be versus the marked up price I received, and her response "maybe it was taxes." Finally, when a final invoice was sent it conveniently included a service fee... I find it difficult to stomach the idea that Elizabeth has claimed to be in business for 8 years and have no customer service etiquette or respect for her clients, cannot book an artist properly, or even do simple math to charge clients. So utterly disorganized and takes no accountability for anything. read more

This lady is awful she showed up late. She came only with two face paint color both and purple. Ask my son for his face paint. Scribble waves on peoples faces and called it face painting. Then her caricatures Look nothing like the pictures on yelp. She never apologize for being late. Offered a refund because she knew we were upset. Never sent the refund. Just a nightmare to work with save yourself the trouble and don't hire her. She promised to artist one for face painting and one for drawing told us they were both sick and she showed up to do the job late one hour. Her work is junk. read more

This lady came over to our place and was 1 hour late. She didn't even call us and let us know. We found out she was here at our house when we went out front to get something for the party. She was just hanging outside like it was normal to hang outside someone's house. So she came in and didn't look too happy or excited for a kids party. We gave her water and a table and asked if she wanted food or drinks. She asked us if we had some face paint color so all she carried with her was two colors?? Lucky my daughter which just turned 7 has some that she bought for herself. So she started to draw pictures of stuff on all the little girls face and each picture on the face you cannot even guess what they were. After the last girl was done she went on to draw some of the girls pictures on a paper. This was the worst I have ever seen. Every picture she drew was the same picture of everyone and it didn't look like anyone she was drawing. It was so terrible I didn't even want to show it to my friends cause at this time everyone was already complaining how bad she was, where did we hire her from, why is she so grumpy? Anyways my son wanted a picture with his birthday sister and she told him his time is up and she wanted to leave. My generous wife felt bad of the situation and even gave her tip money cause that is how we are but after she left everyone was talking about how we got robbed and why did she even tip her. This has got to be the most memorable experience I have ever had with an artist like this and we go to many parties and throw many parties. It would probably have been better if we just bought all the kids ice cream with the money instead. We are really nice people but my kids were let down because of this lady so we want everyone to know this before you hire her. Beware all these pics on this Yelp did not come from this lady at all. This is the worst business I've worked with so far. I try my best not to write bad reviews but I have to warn the other parents/party planners not to get scammed by these people. We hired Amusement Artists for my daughter's 3rd birthday from 2pm - 3pm time slot. We gave a deposit of $85. No one showed up. No phone call. No text. No communication. With bunch of disappointing children around me, I kept calling and my calls kept getting rejected. They kept my deposit and kept rejecting my calls for 3 days after the party. Then my husband started calling them and firmly requested our deposit back. After 4 days, they finally gave our deposit back. If we were not persistent on calling and texting with different numbers, they would have never given our deposit back. read more

TERRIBLE! Booked and paid for a face painted through this company. They sent me a contract and I paid them in full prior to the event. The artist was scheduled for a 2 hours event and just never showed or contacted me at all to explain why. I reached out to Elizabeth (the owner) and she simply said she would look into it. The event was on a Sunday which is when I initially contact her, she never followed up. I reached out again on the following Thursday with no response. Basically paid $250 for literally NOTHING and now need to contact my bank to refute the chargers. If I could give 0 stars I would! This is the worst customer services/business I have ever dealt with. read more

I don't like writing negative reviews but this experience really earned it. We booked two services for my sons 2nd birthday party, face painting and balloon artist. Each service was $115 for two hours, so $230 total. It was like pulling teeth trying to get Elizabeth to respond to my messages on Yelp, even after I paid the deposit. Anyway, day of party- the party started at 2pm so I told Elizabeth I'd like the artist to start at 2:30. She did not show up until 3pm. The woman who showed up was very sweet, kind and great with the kids. She did a great job on the face painting but when it came time for balloons she explained she did not know how to do them and she was waiting for Elizabeth to come to do them. Elizabeth never showed up. During the party this poor woman had to YouTube how to make balloon figures and in the end could only make hats and swords. Bummer. The day after the party I get a text (first text ever, by the way) from Elizabeth saying she sent me an invoice for the balance. No acknowledgement of her no showing the party the day before. I open the invoice, expecting to see a $15 balance since I had already paid a $100 deposit and each service is $115 and I received only one service. Nope, it's for the balance for both services, $130 plus service fees that were never mentioned before. I told Elizabeth there was a mistake and I only owe her $15 because we only got one service. This is when Elizabeth became even more of a nightmare. Not only was she completely unapologetic, she was trying to argue with me that we in fact did get balloons (YouTubed swords and hats?) and that I only booked one artist. Sure, but she sent an artist who could not do both of the services I booked. So...? I'm obviously more than happy to pay for services received, I wanted to pay, I wanted the service, was a huge bummer we didn't get the balloon artist. Anyway, she ended up saying that ever since Covid people have been "out of their minds" and "have too high of expectations". I would not recommend this business if you have an expectation to have what you've booked actually done. read more

We recently hired Amusement Artists as a caricature artist for our wedding reception. Before hiring them I looked through all of their photos online and I was really impressed with the work their artist Chris does. All the drawings I saw looked exactly like the people he was drawing. Based off the photos I saw, I decided to book with them. Being a caricature artist is tricky because you have to draw fast and still capture a person and their spirit quickly. Chris was on time, he was very friendly, easy to talk to and for sure is talented. I was a little disappointed though because the more I looked at the peoples drawings he did that night, the more I realized that a lot of them didn't look like the people they were drawn after. I also had a few people express this opinion to me also. I also noticed a lot of the men looked more like who they were based off of then the women were. Most of the women just looked like a general women's face and not the person they were supposed to be of. Don't get me wrong, they are all really cute drawings, but I didn't feel like he really captured my guests. Especially compared to other drawings I have seen him do. I just felt like I hired a completely different artist then I thought I saw online. I even called to make sure it was the artist I wanted. I am going to chalk it up to he was either having an off night or just felt too rushed. They definitely were the most reasonably priced of all the caricature artists I looked up. read more

We had such an amazing experience with this company! We hired them to do caricatures, henna, and name paintings at our baby shower, and we are SOOO glad we did! All the kids loved them (and the adults too)...we all had such a blast! On a separate occasion we also bought one of Elizabeth's mandala paintings, and not only do we love it...it was also our go-to solution during our daughter's first few months, whenever she would get upset.
