Auldbrass Plantation is a private residence and open for one weekend every other year supporting…read morethe Beaufort County by the Open Land Trust. The house is also on the National Register of Historic Places. I was lucky enough to get a ticket and tour the property this year! Frank Lloyd Wright designed the house to fit in with the area's unique landscape. He worked on the project for over twenty years up until his death. The property was in bad shape and close to being torn down before Joel Silver, a Hollywood producer purchased it. Silver with the help of Wright's grandson restored it and completed it to Wright's original plans. The property is on 326 acres (you do not have access to all of it) but bring your walking shoes as there is a lot to see!!! Plenty of parking is available on the main road and then you walk down to the gate to check in and make your way up the driveway. The tour of the main house is guided with a group of 12 and you are taken to certain rooms to view. Photographs are not permitted inside as it is a personal residence but outside you can take as many as you like of the house and the grounds and other buildings. The house is very unique with the copper downspouts that are to resemble Spanish moss to the angles in the house boards that represent the slopes of oak trees to the hexagons just about everywhere. Even the gardens are on an angle. The pool was added by Silver as was the sculpture garden and the theater room. If you can score a ticket to visit this gem, I highly recommend it.

FHU 50 amp, good water pressure. Fun walk around the lake where we saw some gators in the pond. Our pups enjoyed that walk. It's a drive to Hilton Head, so wish this place was closer to sites. Walmart was within a reasonable distance. None of the nearby restaurants appealed to us so we didn't dine locally. The issues we ran into: 1) the laundry only takes credit cards. And when we tried to use, it charged us but then gave an error code. Go inside for help (not Roslyn) and we were told they can't help us call a third party. Frankly, that's weak. So no laundry got done. 2) the pool was COLD. It's evidently not heated or they just recently filled it. Several others (including kids) said it was too cold to enjoy. 3) when we went to leave, we had MAJOR trouble avoiding a tree and the gazebo directly in front of our site. To the point we were so stuck one of the gentlemen that works there had to help us get out. He told us they have been wanting to take that tree out for that very reason. I wish I caught his name - very good job helping us, after some "pinstriping". They need to take it out, or at least trim the branches on that tree up above 14 ft. My first ever stay with Thousand Trails - and obviously this place. I wouldn't stay here again. Perhaps not Thousand Trails either, since the reviews indicate other sites are similar. We enjoyed our time at Hilton Head both days we were there. But this location isn't great for that trip.

It was okay going in, but when it came time to pull out we had a mess of a time because there was a gazebo across from us. We were lucky a gentleman on a tractor helped us. He watched the front while I watched the right side. I was bending branches to avoid worst scratches on our fifth-wheel. Our new Brinkley is 10 months old and we were furious this happened. We were told others were trying to get them to trim the trees to avoid this problem. They have square stones going to the office and swimming pool. They need to level them and add sand around them so they're not uneven and able to trip. We went to use the washers. We loaded the clothes and added the soap/softener just to have problems with the money. I went into the office and was told to call the number on the washer because they don't own them, nor do they address any problems with them. We will not return!!

You see nice scenery (far better than 95), and can sit back and relax and watch the changing landscape, without the stress of navigating I-95. The sleeping cars bring you back to another time, when travel was more about the journey and it lacks the hectic pace of the airport and all the stresses of getting through security, gates that change 5 times before the flight, and the whole airport experience. No invasive TSA. Dinner is served in the Dining Car with white tablecloths and fresh flowers. My salmon in puff pastry was delicious, and the chocolate cake is sinfully rich. I traveled only 2 days before Christmas, and I was lucky enough to have Anton as my cabin attendant. I walked the whole train and his car (5246) was the only one decorated for Christmas. There were lights and ornaments and merry greetings, adding a festive flair. Thank you, Anton. You made it a spectacular experience.

There are two other lines coming through here that head to Miami. The station has next to nothing, so don't bother coming here more than 15-20 mins before your train.
