Great customer service! The night before I was with Amtrak on the phone and it was horrible so I decided to walk into my boarding station which was Van Nuys to get luggage info and take care of other stuff and make sure everything was good for my trip (since the phone rep made a mess of things). The rep at the station was Travis he was great he answered all of my questions and gave me my tickets. I wish the person on the phone would have been a little more helpful. Thanks Travis! read more

We recently had a great experience at this Amtrak location....what started out as disaster was quickly remedied thanks to Paul who works here. My mom came to visit me and accidentally left her suitcase on the bus. When she went to ask what she could do, Paul was absolute angel! He found out where the bus would be going and when it would be back that the Van Nuys location. He said he would call us as soon as her suitcase made it back safely and he would ensure that it would stay locked up and secure. Sure enough, he called us later that evening and we went to pick it up the next day. Paul even had another staff member call us in the morning to let us know the suitcase was still safe and sound and ready to be picked up at our convenience. In a society where often people just don't care and don't follow through, it was such a nice change to interact with someone who clearly still values friendliness and helpfulness. I WILL NEVER AGAIN RIDE WITH AMTRAK! I was heading home for new years from san diego to moorpark station. The train broke down an hour outside of san diego and had to wait for another train for an hour. Once I got on my way on the replacement train, it made an extra stop at the los angeles station. In the chaos of having switched trains and delays, when the conductor came around to check tickets he was unaware of the situation and mistakenly told me "my tickets were no good and had to get off the train" I tried to explain the situation and asked him to call someone to double check but he wouldnt. I was kicked off the train and stranded at LA station. He refused to call a manager and threatened to have me arrested if I didnt get off the train immidiately. In the rush to gather my things, i left my phone behind and had no way of calling to make arrangements to get home. THIS WAS THE WORST EXPERIENCE IVE EVER HAD. THEIR CUSTOMER SERVICE IS HORRIBLE. When i called the customer service line, they offerd me $20 for a $96 TICKET AND LEAVING ME STRANDED IN LA. METROLINK IS THE WAY TO GO, THEY CAME TO MY RESCUE AND ENDED UP GIVING ME A FREE RIDE HOME. I WILL ALWAYS RIDE METROLINK FROM NOW ON. read more

You know, I travel by train a lot and I don't usually have bad things to say about the stations but this station was disgusting. It smelled like smoke, it was dirty, the people were slow. I had to use the bathroom but I was afraid to go in there. If you're going to leave on the train from Los Angeles go to Union Station. I know there's more traffic but the people are more helpful, the place is cleaner and you can get food there. read more

I am amazed at myself for keeping giving Amtrak another chance. It's a torture. 9 out of 10 times there is at least a 15-20 min delay. That should just be treated as standard time! 3 out of 10 times the delay is over 45 mins and at least 1 in 10, the delay is 1-2 -hrs!!! The crew does not even feel apologetic let alone any sort of compensation or a free drink or bottle of water. read more

Took the train from this location, heading south to Del Mar. It's conveniently located for people living in the West San Fernando Valley. There's lots of free ample parking, and the newly renovated train station is tidy, spacious, and staffed, has a vending machine, and bright and clean restrooms (ask for a key from the counter). Very helpful Amtrak Custom Service reps answered all my questions and gave clear instructions for passengers . Scanned my e-ticket and I was on my way! Trains have been on time the 2x I've taken them this summer from this location. read more

Great costumer service. The people who work at this station are amazing. Taking the Amtrak towards the OC, is probably the cheapest and most efficient option for a college student who does not have a car. This is how I travel when I want to see family. read more

A few days ago I took the Coast Starlight from San Francisco down to Los Angeles. The price was reasonable ($58), the trip took 12 hours, and the scenery was spectacular. I rode most of the way in a comfortable seat in the observation car where the windows are huge. Watching the coastline is always thrilling, and when I've driven the Coast Highway I had to keep my eyes on the road and couldn't look at the sights. I actually got off in Burbank, not Van Nuys ... but both of these stations look fine from the outside. It was easier for relatives to pick me up before Union Station, so that's what we did. The ladies working this morning have been incredibly helpful not only to me but to every person who has come in. They answer every question with a smile, they engage the customers in conversation, and they give you all the info you need to make sure you know what to do. I've come to this station at least 4 times and every single time the attendants have been very helpful. The station is clean, I have left my car there overnight without any problem. Once I had to reschedule a trip to San Diego and went to see what I could do in order not to lose my ticket and the afternoon attendant helped me and was able to change the date. The trip to San Diego is worth your money, specially if you purchase the 10 tickets. read more

Amtrak, and public transportation in America itself, is a mess. This station makes it a little more bearable.

My son age 17, regularly rides the train between Burbank, CA and Simi Valley. On August 8th he got on the 12:47 Amtrack train in Burbank. He planned to buy his ticket on board with the conductor as he's done before. This time when the conductor came by, he told him to call and get a reservation number, and that he would come back for it. My son did this and then went to the cafe to get something to eat. Another Amtrak employee asked him for his ticket. He told her that he had been told to get a reservation number. She asked him, "Who told you that?" He pointed out the man, who denied telling him that. The woman kicked him off the train in Simi Valley which is where he was getting off anyway. Today he got on the train, the 12:47 Amtrack in Burbank, heading toward Simi Valley. He again planned to pay the conductor. When the same woman saw him, she immediately kicked him off in Van Nuys, where he was stranded on the hottest day of the year, 110 degrees! She would not let him buy his ticket. I called Amtrak today and confirmed that it is okay to purchase your ticket once onboard. So why wouldn't she let him do that? She put my under age son in physical danger by throwing him off the train, in extreme heat, without any regard for his well being. Is this your policy?! Now, trying to call their customer relations, I have been on hold for :50 with no answer. Doesn't seem like a company that is interested in happy customers. read more

To all the employees working at the Van Nuys Station the morning of 3/7/18. Thank you for being excellent at your job. You all went above and beyond to be accommodating and friendly to everyone that walked through that door over the hour and a half I was there. You were efficient and attentive, especially to your older customers. The airlines should learn a few things from you all down on the ground. I will happily be a repeat customer for future trips down the coast. (Side note: Parking is free and the station isn't chaotic like most major stations can be. Police presence was also visible in the parking lot. I felt very safe.) read more

This was my first time taking the train from LA to SB and, while my train ran on time, the earlier train was delayed by over 2 hours due to mechanical difficulties. So, it does seem like there are issues... The staff was incredible, though. Really informative and pleasant and helpful. The waiting room was comfortable and clean and there was ample parking. Amtrack (amtrick) is keeping hundreds of passengers waiting in Bakersfield since 12:45pm this afternoon for northbound service. It is now 5 pm and there has not been an offer of even a drink of water or any compensation for the delay and extreme inconvenience. What is the problem? No one at Amtrack wants to answer this question. OOOOOOOOOPS No more trains for me I have been a frequent and mostly satisfied customer of Amtrack for three decades. This incident shows such dis-regard for the customers (passengers) that it would take a large correction to ever get me back on a train. read more

Just dropped off my son for his weekly Surfliner trip to SD this morning(#768). Where is Brandy, the best customer service person we've met.? Her ticket counter replacement is not helping Amtrak boost their customer service ratings. He was rude, condescending, and definitely needs to attend charm school. It wasn't that they were very busy. In addition, was on his cell phone making personal calls and not attending to customers. Lets make the train travel experience the great alternative that it needs to be!!! read more

If there was an option to give negative stars, I would. Never have I taken such an unreliable source of public transportation. I have recently taken Amtrak on two occasions. My first experience resulted in me missing a wedding that I was in due to their train being over an hour late. This happened on a Saturday and when I called their 1-800 # they wanted me to wait until Monday to call their customer relations department. I did not believe that there was not someone, a supervisor, there who could assist me on this Saturday and sure enough there was a supervisor that was able to compensate me with a new reservation on a train that following Sunday. That's train at 8:23 am was on time. But when I had to turn around to come back I purchased my ticket from the kiosk to be told moments later that the train was delayed 40 mins. Listen Amtrak, I get that u have policies in place to try to update people electronically, but let's face the facts...that is helping no one but you as a company in this situation. It's your way of covering your tracks because you are consistently inconsistent. I don't want a Damn email or text telling me my train is running late...I would like to board and depart my train as the schedule says...that is what I paid for. I am livid, and your system for taking care of disgruntled patrons is ridiculous. You will be getting a call from me bright and early on Monday morning. Nonsense. read more

I have a bunch of buddies that go to UCSB and I always want to go visit them on the weekend but I never wanna sit in the traffic to get out there. A couple of months ago I was stopped at a light near this particular Amtrak station and had the bright idea of riding the train up there and bypassing all of the traffic. I'll be honest, I had never ridden a train before but I was pleasantly surprised. I was comparing the entire experience to flying so the trip was pleasant to say the least. I arrived at the station about 30 minutes prior to the train's scheduled arrival time since I'm used to flying and I'll tell you, 30 minutes is much more time than you need to show up early. If you arrive 10 minutes before your departure time, you'll be just fine. I went by the 'club' to pick up some 420-friendly goodies for the plane ride, ate my little candy about 20 minutes before the train got there and the train ride was awesome! The seats are much more comfortable than airplane ones and much more spacious too. There are also food carts that you can go to and buy something to eat or drink but I thought ahead so I didn't need to take advantage of that service. Of course the first third of the trip was through the deep valley so it wasn't scenic, but the last 30 minutes or so was right along the beach and was beautiful. I had my ipod in and the entire ride flew by in a flash. It was $30 each way, so it was a little more than a tank of gas in my car but like I said, I didn't have to sit in any traffic or worry about the impossible task of finding a parking spot in Isla Vista so the $60 was well worth it. Also, when you're hung over as shiat coming back from SB, it's a luxury not having to drive and just being able to sit back and relax on the train ride back. It was a great weekend and I'll definitely be taking the train more often when I visit my homies. read more
