Hot Fudge Brownie with Madagascar Vanilla Ice Cream served bubbling on skillet

I ordered the lamb korma, plain naan, raita, and the Ayurveda/Ginger tea on Sunday, June 14, 2025 while staying at the Marriott Berlin Hotel a block away. The restaurant is gorgeous. The lamb was perfectly cooked with just the right spices. It came with one of the best salads I have ever eaten. I met the owner who was incredibly gracious. I went back the next night and ordered a chicken dish and samosas. I couldn't finish it. I preferred the plain naan. The hot fudge brownie with Madagascar Vanilla Ice Cream was served bubbling hot in its own heated skillet. I loved eating at Amrit. I ate inside where it was quiet but you can eat outside at tables and watch the traffic.

Came to Berlin on my vacation & ended up dining at Amrit twice. It was delicious! We tried at least 10 different items from the menu. From appetizers, mains, sides, desserts, & drinks everything tasted perfect. The workers are super cool & gave us a lot of attention & recommendations for our trip. The restaurant vibes were also hella nice considering the decor embodied a classy Indian aesthetic. Definitely gotta visit this spot if you love Indian food & quality service.

    Garlic naan

A great place for lunch, mostly because they offer a lunch deal. We were in the area getting our tourist on and ended up at this intersection right when hunger kicked in. It was the best choice for us. It's chaotic the second you walk in. It felt like peak lunch break as the place was popping. They seated us right by the window with a perfect view of the folks walking by outside. We both got a chicken dish that came with rice and salad. We also got an order of the garlic naan. What I was able to eat was great. The naan was definitely the highlight for me anyway. No one in Europe got my sense of humor so my dish had no spice after I asked for my spice level to be at American instead of Indian.

    Murgh Tikka (grilled chicken) app

I ordered takeout from Amrit, as it was close to my hotel, & I luv Indian cuisine, even more when it's good! Order was ready in 15 minutes as promised. I got the Murgh Tikka (grilled chicken) appetizer & Chicken Madrasi. Both were packaged exceptionally well for take out (no chance of leaking :-) and very tasty. The Madrasi had a slight kick of spice from the curry, as advertised. My one minor opportunity for improvement is on the naan - way too crispy (see pic) for my liking, as I prefer more soft & a tiny bit chewy. Otherwise - I highly recommend!

Chicken Punjabi with mango lassi! 10.80€ total for business lunch (before 3pm)

Got the chicken Punjabi and mango lassi which came with naan and rice and a side salad. Total was 10.80€! (Lunch special before 3pm) I tipped them and they gave me a masala chai on the house. Very nice service, good portions, and the food was good! Usually at other Indian restaurants I would need to buy rice and naan separately so this was very good for the price! Would come again to get my Indian food fix! Danke!

This is a really awesome and very large restaurant where you can sit either inside or outside private tables. We came here on a Sunday night and received it right away and staff is very friendly, efficient and accommodating. They speak perfect German and English communication easy. The food was delicious. We will be coming back again!

Not bad We more or less accidentally found ourselves in Amrit. We were looking around for a place to have dinner, my wife looking online, me just looking around, neither one of us getting the job done. She finally came up with Amrit without realizing it was an Indian restaurant. Not our favorite cuisine and not German, which is what we should be trying on our holiday, but we went in. It wasn't bad. Very friendly welcomings from the person outside trying to lure customers to the hostess to our server. Spicy cracker bread was brought to the table, which I find fun to eat. My wife and I both went safe, she with Butter Chicken while I selected a vegetarian dish called Taj Mahal Kofte. My dish was a couple of large potato dumplings in a yellow sauce. Mine was pretty good, by the end of the meal I was happier we selected this restaurant than when I first walked in. My only complaint was it took over 20 minutes for our food to arrive. After dinner they even brought shot glasses of mango juice, a nice touch.

Where do I start....I look at the menu my attention for appetizer was drawn to pepper chicken fry and my main course was buttered chicken.....family recipe....I was like let's see how good the family recipe is. Oh my gosh....it's amazingly flavorful, perfectly spiced, and that raw chili on top enhanced the whole dish. Warning....if you aren't up for spicy food....let them know beforehand. What can I say.....these dishes especially the pepper chicken took me back to my college days of me visiting street side dhabas. I found the flavors of a streetwise dhaba from India, that seems to have been lost with expansion of cities. I even tried a few years ago in Punjab and couldn't get the feeling or enjoying the food for a long time. If you love indian food and want a real essence of it, you need to make a reservation here!

Very artfully crafted papadums (as a cone) served with delightful garnishes and/or chutneys. Loved the mango chutney (had to get another serving). So the food. Yea, the yellow lentils and the breads were over the top. The malai kofta - not so much. The real issue was kofta - not jived with the gravy and just didn't click with the palatte. My dinning colleague concurred so I would it's not purely personal. All in all, nice place with enough grandeur and decor to make it a great venue for important celebrations. Indian…read morecuisine is adapted for the German palate and as they tend to steer away from anything too spicy, the traditional spiciness that much of Indian food is renowned for, is diluted. What they call onion bhajis in this restaurant are poor, low-quality onion rings. Onion coated in a fatty batter. The spicy dishes like madras, jalfrezi and vindaloo are much the same degree of spiciness and flavour as each other... not very. I have always asked for authentic Indian vindaloo (so HOT), and I think that they just put an extra pinch of chilli powder in the sauce. Very disappointing. All very similar sauces. The chicken I believe (and I might be wrong), is mechanically-recovered chicken. It always has the strangest texture. Slightly slimy too..! Not a quality ingredient at all. Dishes are 'well padded out' with potato. What did it for us at our last (and very last) visit was when my partner ordered a glass of water instead of his usual beer. When the bill came we were horrified to see that we had been charged €4,40 for a glass of water. Not a bottle brought to the table, not a pretentious, fancy Italian brand.. just plain water 'mit'. There aren't many choices of authentic Indian restaurants in Germany, in fact, I haven't come across any but I do object to being ripped off with poor quality ingredients and obscenely over-priced water. As locals who live a short walk from Zaika and have recently visited the restaurant on a weekly basis, we won't be going again. The hunt continues for an 'authentic', quality Indian restaurant in East Berlin.

We went to Zaika with low expectations cause the good ratings for restaurants in Prenzlauer Berg didn't really convinced us so far. And unfortunately we were again disappointed and don't understand any of the food ratings. I am still looking for a good Indian restaurant In Berlin. The best dish was the bhatura bread. The appetizer mix is just baked fried greasy oily vegetables served with sauce by the side. Everything is very heavy and we simply didn't enjoy the taste or the protein (fish and shrimp). We left dissatisfied and wished to have rather not eaten at all for dinner and ended up paying 40€. Bottom line: taste and completely not worth it.

Saravanaa Bhavan is one of the great Indian restaurant chains of the world…read more The West is finally starting to appreciate what Saravanaa Bhavan has been trying to do all along. Most great cities now have rivals to Saravanaa Bhavan that command respect. The fact that there are other centers of excellence out there does nothing to diminish Saravanaa Bhavan's historical accomplishment. * * * Saravanaa Bhavan is a chain of South Indian vegetarian restaurants in Chennai that expanded first across India itself, and then followed the Indian diaspora to set up satellite restaurants all over the world. The number of Saravanaa Bhavan's in a city reflects less the overall stature of a city in the global urban hierarchy and more reflects the size of the South Indian population that has migrated to that city. Berlin has one Saravanaa Bhavann. The Dallas Metro area has three. Berlin outranks Dallas in the Global Cities Hierarchy But Dallas has the large population of Tamil immigrants. That said, the successful implantation of Saravanaa Bhavan's all over the world is impressive. They operate nearly 100 restaurants in twenty eight different countries not counting their substantial operations in India itself. * * * Saravanaa Bhavan's culinary accomplishment was twofold. a) They introduced much of the world to South Indian vegetarian food. In much of the world, they would have been the first restaurant to serve dosas, idli, and the distinctive South Indian rather than north Indian curries. b) They introduced much of the world to Indian Chinese food - the reinterpretation of Chinese food that was developed in India. Gobi Manchurian - one of the most intoxicating dishes on the planet - would have had its first serving in many cities in a Saravanaa Bhavan. Their menu was huge. They included North Indian as well as South Indian specialties. You could eat at a Saravanaa Bhavan for weeks and never repeat a dish. And the execution was absolutely positively excellent. Nearly everything that came out of their kitchen was to die for. * * * Saravanaa Bhavan is just as good today as it ever was. However, as the flow of South Indian immigrant professionals grew and grew, the number of South Indian immigrant restauranteurs grew as well. There was money to be made serving the great dishes from home ... And more and more people went to the exotic cities of the world to re-create those fine South Indian dishes in foreign locations. So now all of those cities have many places you can go where you can get absolutely wonderful South Indian and Indian-Chinese vegetarian dishes. I live in Austin, Texas which does not have a Saravanaa Bhavan - but has a vast number of South Indian software engineers, professors and doctors. They eat at Sangam Chettinad which is an absolutely superlative establishment. * * * That said, I will always grab a chance to eat at a Saravanaa Bhavan if there is one in the city I am in. One tip that may be helpful. Don't put your food on the white rice that accompanies most of their dishes. The flavors of Saravanaa Bhavan's dishes are so wonderful that you do not want to dilute them. Putting their food on plain rice is like serving their food on Wonder Bread. Eating their stuff straight up though is like dying and going to heaven. Except that the next day you get reincarnated and can do the same thing again.
