Clean facilities, good prices, courteous staff. I don't recommend going there too late at night though.

Friday .25 Icees advertised all over the radio. We went in today and the machines were completely broke. Back to 7 11 we go!

There's no sense that they're truly conscious or if they're in a collective fugue state where their bodies function, but the brains aren't processing information correctly. Just as an example, I went there yesterday for some cough syrup and found that the few employees were much too occupied wandering around to help with the giant line. And the one line had some lady there who had taken so long she sat down while the cashier read aloud to her the prices of every lighter behind the counter. I walked over to the register, put the cough syrup down to leave. As I left, I asked the young security dude if there was a manager who worked there. I was curious if anyone was in charge or if this was some kind of elaborate Andy Kaufman-style comedy bit designed to make people lose their minds. I didn't actually say that, but when I asked if a manager or supervisor works there, he reacted as if it's the first time the words of another human being had entered his ears. The confusion and bewilderment on his face filled my heart with great sadness for the future of the human race. Long story short: this Walgreens will be joining New Seasons on my boycott list. It's truly one of earths most cursed physical locations.

Surprisingly, that means that all the employees know my name, ask how my sons are, and in most cases remind me that I am forgetting something (because sadly, I am a creature of habit). What other 7-11 store does that? I don't believe any others do. I love the employees here. I love how they are helpful when looking for something. I love how they don't get huffy, like some in customer service do, when you ask for one of those yummy Big Bites. OHHHH here is another big one. The line could be wrapping around the building and somehow I have never been in line longer then 2 minutes. They are so speedy when running two registers. Impressive! Overall, great store.

This one is probably closest - or equa-distance to the one on lombard & st louis & lombard near ace hardware. But the counter folk are nice. The customers are a mixed, sometimes boisterous, but generally friendly group. Parking is wacky but always possible (even when you make your own). The cigarettes inside are substantially more than out (at the gas island). But they will take $1 off if you buy two. It's a convenience store... ya know. Convenient meaning open, close and over-priced.

Like putting together the single best convenience store with good quality and discount priced Union 76 Gasoline. Brilliant. I am one of the unfortunate who commutes across the river to and from Portland from The Couve so anything that helps takes the edge off the trip is welcomed. Getting my liquid dinosaur and a nice frosty beverage and some jerky all in one stop just makes me smile. The staff is always decent, you can't really hold it against the poor guys and gals who have to come pump your gas for being a little off putting but the cashiers are always friendly. It's a fairly simple on and off of I-5, if you're opting to cut across from I-5 to 205 via Marine Drive it's a convenient stop as well. Who would have thought I'd get excited about a place like this, but here I am, Yelpin' about it. Sadder part is you're actually still reading.... :-)

The former lot w/Sid Dorn Chevrolet, for example...). Then this place was called, I think, "The onion patch" for a good chunk of the mid-90s and early early 2000s, and sold local, organic produce and what-not. The mini market as-is has been in place for about 8 or 9 years, according to the fellow working the counter. This place has a cozy and admittedly slightly sketchy feel to it, nestled as it is w/heaps of dilapidated row-housing (and they are truly heaps, I say unto you!) in the immediate back drop. It has none of the advantages of the 7-11 just half a block away: it is not 24/7, there's no slurpee machine or hot n' ready junk food at the counter, no deep fried verboten sehr guten fooden. Not even a pay phone or an ATM to speak of! But they do offer competitive prices on ice cold beer---- 18 packs of PBR for just a tad over of ten smackers, So there! And "Lombard Fortune Mini Market" is a simply lovely moniker; who could dispute it??? Very scarcely do I play powerball, but if I or any other local ever wins a BIG ONE, it's only right that the winnin' ticket should've been purchased here at the Lombard Fortune, baby. Mini-market!
