Ive been taking my son to Joanne for over three years, and she has consistently been amazing. She's patient, attentive, and really listens to what we're looking for. She checks in throughout the haircut to make sure we're happy with how things are going (my son keeps changing his mind every haircut, so I appreciate the attention :)). The salon is warm, welcoming, and great with kids, making every visit easy and stress-free. If you are a dog lover, they have the cutest service dogs (go Peppe!). Just grab your Starbucks across the street and you are in for a treat. read more

My son and myself were passing time walking around Walnut Creek,CA - we noticed this barbershop and decided to walk in and see if we can get a haircut. Not realizing ... it is one of the best barbershop in town. The ambience is so down to earth... be careful with the two beautiful dogs hanging out...both of them are too good - children fall in love with them. I was fortunate to get Allan to cut my hair. Very accommodating and one - if not the best haircut I had. All I did was inform him of how I want to look and he did it. My son was very pleased with his haircut and shave. Absolutely will be back and highly recommend. Thank you Allan... read more

1/5 Frick u brother this haircut was a whole hot mess. The sides are uneven, the cut looks rushed, and somehow both sides came out looking completely different. I asked for a haircut, not a before-and-after challenge . Honestly disappointed with how trash the sides turned out. Fuck u brother read more

Stopped in for a quick trim and Alan (owner) said no problem...walked around for 20 min, came back and he had finished with his last client. Nice guy, been in business there for 28 years...he's good at what he does. Thanks Alan ...best always ! read more

For some reason the few times I've tried this place, because of the cool kids cuts, have never translated to my kid. I went in on Sunday and asked them to keep the hair long. Every time I saw her taking the hair up I asked her to keep it long and she kept replying with "I'm layering it". Now my kids hair looks like a star ship from Star Wars read more

coming here for our son since he was 4, he loved all the cars and fire truck! (pre 2020) 10 years later Amplify have been consistent and amazing, happy to support a wonderful establishment Brought Papa here for many months before he went home, and my son is still getting his haircuts here read more

I messed up my two-year-old's hair so I took him to see Joanne to get his haircut. She did better than I could ever expected her patience and persistence to get a wonderful haircut was above and beyond my expectations. I thought she was done about four times before she actually finished and I still would've left a great review if she stopped earlier. I definitely would leave kids haircuts to the professionals and I also think what my son received is worth double what they charged. I definitely will be coming back in and continue to make the 40 minute drive to go see her! Also shout out to Alan for helping call my kid down with a lollipop. read more

What an amazing Barber Shop! The best haircut my son has ever had (William, you're a rockstar!). As fantastic William was, the dogs were the best part. The sweetest dogs I've ever seen. Attaching a picture of Pepe, who sweetly made his way closer to me as I sat waiting for my son's haircut to be done. His super calm demeanor warmed my heart. Thank you Amplify Barber Shop Walnut Creek for such an incredible experience. We will be your loyal customers now. read more

Amplify Barber Shop - Pepe the smallest and friendliest dog - Barbers Near Me - Walnut Creek, California

One adjective that describes barber Alan - AMAZING. I have had to cut my 2yo toddler boy's hair during this pandemic, and let me be honest, it's been very difficult. First of all, I'm a mom of two and I am no expert at hair cutting (other than learning from YouTube videos). During his naps, I would secretly cut his hair (since there's no way he will stay still or let me touch his hair. When I cut his hair during his nap, there would be everywhere and so difficult to clean even with a towel beneath his head, I can't really turn his head and see exactly where I'm cutting and in the end, haircut looked like crap. I'm so thankful my husband found this place because barber Alan is the best - very kid-friendly and personable. First, Alan lured my son into the barbershop with lollipops that he would award him after the haircut (my son was super hesitant and did not want to go inside; I was about to give up and just go back home - thank goodness I didn't!). My son sat on my husband's lap on the chair. He didn't put anything around his neck to prevent hair getting on him, so.. yes, hair and water went everywhere, but I was totally fine with that - we took all his clothes off and immediately gave him a bath as soon as we got home. Plus, I didn't want my son freaking out if he did put something around his neck. Alan brought out special toy cars that my son absolutely loved because he recognized how much my son loves vehicles. That was so sweet, thoughtful, and observant of him! He listened to what we requested - not too short; just trim and cut sides and back because his hair was getting way too long. We didn't want it too short or a "Mohawk" like we see on little toddlers; we just wanted a simple cut and keep his hair long on top - something more "natural." Then, Alan went straight into action - quickly starting trimming and cutting, keeping my son entertained the entire time. No snags or bloody cuts like I've seen other barbers do to babies. He worked efficiently and quick - I've never seen a barber work so carefully, accurately, and FAST. I'm definitely coming back here to see Alan with my kids!!!! Thanks for his very first lollipop too - that certainly brightened his day! read more

The best barber shop with the best barbers and dogs! I have been going into Amplify for most of my haircuts for about 10 years now. I love getting to talk to all of the nice barbers and getting to pet their dogs when I am waiting for my seat. You can tell they care about the barbershop environment making it family friendly for anyone who needs a high quality haircut. Pepe/Diego/Hannah are the best behaved dogs! read more

I was struggling to find a barber shop that cut kids hair...specifically an infant. I made an appointment with Alan since I saw pics of kids on yelp (figured I'd take a chance with a 7mo old). This is not only a small business, but a FAMILY business and it literally took the entire family (Alan, his wife, and the dogs!) to keep my son calm and relaxed to get his hair cut and his fade done right! If I would have gone somewhere else I'm sure they would have given up since my son cried at the son of the cutters. But Alan was flexible...he had books, made noises and even did a scene change (aka we ended up cutting my son's hair on the bench outside as he was distracted with people watching). I cannot say how much my husband and I appreciated the patience for our son's first professional haircut...and to top it off with all the drama we got an amazing hair cut with a faux hawk! read more

William, my barber, was superb. I left it up to him to make my hair look best, this after many strikeouts with other places like Supercuts. He was skilled, kind, and comforting and I will be back again. Thank you William. Thank you Amplify. Alan is the best barber in my life!! He has magic hands. Very professional and friendly. Competitive price. Just amazing. Highly recommend!!

Once we found Amplify the search was over! Our younger son has never been anywhere else and probably never will go anywhere else. What about the older child? We learned trying to find a place for him that there aren't many great options out there for kids or men. They have added the ability to make a reservation- we love that but that makes walking in without one on a Saturday a bit harder - but they'll do their best to squeeze you in and honestly let you know the wait time. Then have a drink and wait ! The big change a couple years back was streamlining the staff to just the core 3 people. Now you know whoever is there is good and works with the same idea- they don't rush things, taking time to chat is absolutely fine and if you have an issue with what they've done and say something I guarantee they will fix it if that is possible. The dogs are a key to the experience too. if you're afraid of dogs or your child is, go there. We have all seen Diego work his magic on kids who were scared. Oh and the human staff is good with kids too! See comment above- there is no lesser choice if you take your child there. Everyone is patient and understands nervous parents. The only issue I ever saw was when a dad asked for a short cut for the child and mom came near the end and asked if it could be longer. The team is good but they can't turn back time or make hair grow back instantly! We'll be back in a month or so when Child 2 is ready for a cut. Give them a try and support a local, family owned business!! read more

Amazing customer service :) such a sweet a family, the dogs are the best part of the experience. Especially pepe, the small white Chihuahua. Super friendly, is NOT aggressive, sweetest dog! The owners are very polite and very accommodating to their customers! Salon is nice and clean, very welcoming. 10/10 recommend this place for small children. The lovely lady that works there did an amazing job on my 4 year olds hair. She was very patient with him! (He's very squirmy) Overall love the service :) read more

I made an appointment for my son's haircut, we got there earlier. When we arrived by the front door, the owner was asking if we have an appointment. I told him our appointment time, then he said in rude tone "you can't hang out here, it's too early for your appointment!". My son and I were embarrassed so we left. There's plenty of sofas inside! If the owner knows what is good customer service, he could have just offered us to sit and wait. So we went to the Barbershop next door the "Dimaggio's Barber Shop Walnut Creek". We were welcome way better than this place! read more

Amplify Barber Shop is an authentic throwback to what a barber shop should be. Nice, sociable barbers/stylists that take the time to get to know you and your family. A place where fellow customers converse with you and banter with the barbers. Amplify makes you feel welcome right away and you quickly feel at ease to join in on conversations about music, sports, family, and whatever else comes up. Next thing you know you are done and sporting a solid, professional haircut. The laid-back shop dogs are great, too. How cool is it to get a haircut while a little dog is chilling on your lap. Here you aren't just a number; you are a part of the vibe. Thank you Amplify! read more

We took our 3 year old for a haircut and everyone was so kind and patient. Joanne did a great boys cut and our son loved the dogs and police car to sit in. Loved being able to book online. Thank you for being so family friendly! read more

This is the only barber shop where my dad goes to get his haircut. I always notice when he's had a haircut because his cut is always clean and sharp. It's a family-owned business (husband and wife) and all four barbers here do a great job! The location is in the heart of Downtown Walnut Creek next to Miracullum and across the street from Starbucks. They have two comfy couches where customers can relax while waiting and pet one of the friendly "shop dogs." Kids seems to enjoy getting their haircut here because they have cool barber chairs that kids sit in which are a police car and a race car. Plus, kids get a lollipop to keep them happy either before or after their haircut! Where was this when I was a kid?! It gets REALLY BUSY here on Saturday and also right before major holidays like Easter, Thanksgiving, and Christmas! *Note: It's one of the few barber shops that's open on Sunday! read more

This a family owned barber shop. Its a real barber shop, not a corporation. They do a great job and my hair always looks much better than when I go to the chain places. The husband and wife and their employees are all very nice and pleasant. If you are put off by the dog and barbershop environment, it's not a safe space for sensitive snowflakes. It's a mans barbershop. The dog is a service animal and one of the sweetest dogs I've seen. They work fast and are very personable and friendly. If you want an anonymous cut without any soul then this isn't your place. For me, I appreciate supporting a family owned business and a place that caters to men without any nonsense. Their prices are very fair and for the quality - can't be beat. read more

Alan is a pro with both clippers and scissors. Moves fast, great conversations on lots of topics. Treats his animals like humans, and his humans like animals. I've been getting my hair cut at Amplify for the last year now and have yet to receive anything less than a great cut. The entire staff is welcoming and friendly, doesn't really matter who cuts your hair bc they're all fantastic. If you're looking for a real "barbershop" in WC, look no further than Amplify! read more

this was not a friendly place at all so not waste your money here. You're better off just taking a pair of buzzers and rocking a bald cut

Today we took my 1 year old son for his first haircut. Needless to say I think all parents are worried their child will freak out. But the staff were all so helpful and kind and made him comfortable with the cars to sit in. I forgot the woman who cut my sons hair but she was so patient with him even when my three year old daughter was acting up. She was a bit jealous her brother got to sit in the car and get a haircut and she didn't this time. But the hair cut turned out fantastic and we will definitely be bringing him back for all future cuts. read more

Brought my 4 year old son in for his 2nd haircut ever. He really wanted to go to this barber shop because they have police cars for children to sit in while having their haircut. All the barbers there are friendly and fun. They even have a couple ESA support dogs to pet while waiting. Eli cut my son's hair and did a great job! Highly recommend him for your child or yourself! The client he had before taking my son came away from his haircut looking great and I noticed how meticulous Eli was with giving the perfect haircut. read more

In my day, I would fight my parents tooth and nail about getting a hair cut. The battle would usually began as soon as the first layer of hair touched the ear. In this modern era, both my son and I pretty much let our hair grow until we look at it and realize that "it's time". And so it was a few days ago with my Kid's thick mop of hair. Now that I spend most of my time in Pleasant Hill, I've been wanting to find a more traditional Barber Shop closer to home. And since Gayle works for the City of Walnut Creek, I figured I could throw a little business their way. My son also seemed willing, although after walking down to Amplify from the Lesher Center Garage, he barely had any patience left to go in. I didn't catch the name of the guy that cut my son's hair, but he did a nice job, both clipping away and engaging him in conversation. It also helped that walking in, there was already a fun discussion in progress regarding how one of their fish jumped out of the tank. As for me, I enjoyed hanging out, chatting with the owner (who also owns a Shop on Telegraph Avenue in Berkeley), and thinking that I'll be back when my fine and thin hair needs some work. Note: Amplify is a Cash Only, but there's an ATM right across the street. read more

Thanks for the excellent haircut in difficult circumstances. I went shorter than usual just in case and found that I like it much better in heat with a bike helmet and a motorcycle helmet and everyday comfort. I have been going to Alan's joint for 7 years and it is the best barber shop in Walnut Creek. My barber is Eli and he is more than a barber, he's ahas become a good friend. This man has never given me a bad haircut. read more

So I've been here three times to give my 2 year old a haircut. All of the times, the haircut was bad. So it's my fault for going back. But it's not just about the haircut. It's about the entire experience, the vibe, the place. For one, there is a random dog in there that's just roaming around smelling people. If you are not a fan of dogs, like me, then for sure don't go there. Then there is the issue of the Playboy magazines. What's up with that? What year are we in? Then, as many people have mentioned, are the inappropriate comments made about women passing by. Seriously? Though there seems to be some sort of warmth and authenticity from the people that work there, it is obviously fake. The only reason that I went there is because my son loves sitting in the police car while getting his haircut. That's their gimmick. Well today, he only sat there after the haircut was done. And the car was full of the last kid's hair. But to be fair, when the owner noticed that, he did clean it while my kid was in it. But how many times am I supposed to give a place a chance? Three times, three bad haircuts. A weird vibe. A random dog. Porn magazines. Random 1950s disrespect towards women. Old ugly place that needs renovation. I do not recommend this place at all for kids or anyone for that matter. Sorry you guys. This is Walnut Creek in 2017. You have to step it up. read more
