I bought an Irish rugby jersey here for our disappointing last World Cup. I had to buy it in kids, age 10. How embarrassing is that?! Now, I'm twenty-three, five foot nine (and a half, mind you,) and I weight nearly seventy kilos. I demand that Canterbury present to me a ten year old that size. Now. See, they can't! Still, it's a good gag, I've gotta give it to them there. They really had me on that one. I suppose it's in the ethos of the sport too, so fair play, fair play. The staff here are friendly, it's Irish owned and they know there stuff in particular when it comes to rugby stuff. Four stars. *and Dad's but it doesn't sound as good that way :)

And they've taken up outside with Jansport bags (very nice for backpacks or what have you, but in space this small, you'd think they'd want to minimise superfluity, not expand it...) They've got the basics I admit, gumshields, rugby shirts, shin pads and the like. Not the best range of footwear, which, unless you do something like martial arts or swimming is kind of a big deal) and their swimwear isn't the broadest choice either, which is odd considering that one of the biggest clubs in Ireland is based around 10 minutes away so you'd think that could be a bit of a draw. My advice? Go to Lifestyle in Dún Laoghaire.

Well this is my first review in ages but here goes…read more I went into sports world to buy a pair of runners last week, I was looking at a pair that I liked, i had only had the runner less then 10 seconds and a annoying sales man was over, "what size do you want in them". at this point I had not even decided if I liked them, so I told him my size he then went off and got them came back with them and said "you can pay for them at the till", stating the obvious really and he left without seeing if I wanted them. at that point I thought to myself that was very rude I might just go elsewhere but I needed them and didn't have much time. I liked them and price was a bit high but ok , so decided to buy them so anyway, I went to till and things didn't get any better, he scanned box and said "50" no please or that is 50euro. I asked the guy can you do any better on the price. (I know I was chancing my arm) but his reply was "NO!" In the sharpest tone anyone in a shop has ever talked to me. I reluctantly gave him the money and asked for a bag as no bag was given, he just grunted at me and threw a bag on the counter and turned away from me. So I left with the impression of Sports World @ Heatons Carrickmines as a unfriendly place to shop with pushy dog rude staff with no Customer Service monkeys could do a better job and would suggest people do not shop there if they do not want to be treated like crap. Now keep in mind that not everything here will be half price but it most certainly will be cheaper. Definitely worth a look. Would have been nice to actually get it inside the shopping center but the West End spot suits it well. It's a very nicely laid out space with plenty of room. This is great due to the variety of stock they have on hand. Any major sport you think of, Nike will have something for it. Staff are friendly too, never had any issues. They seem talkative, attentive and ready to help.

I also love the face that changing rooms have a big picture of the great Steve Prefontaine on the wall-thats what brings me back!

Well, it was and it wasn't. Yes, it is filled with every imaginable jersey but it is also filled with tons and tons of sports equipment. I was pretty excited because my boyfriend and I had been talking about getting some tennis rackets, but we're on a tight budget. I wandered around the shop for a while before I approached a sales assistant and asked for a little advice. He said they had some rackets but that another location would have more in stock. He also said that they come in a range of prices, from 20 euros and up! That is not bad for a tennis racket, not bad at all! I didn't end up buying anything, but when I need some sports stuff this'll be the place I come looking for it.

Unfortunately I had another problem with a serious defect in the replacement boots while walking the Camino. Again there was no problem when I returned. They gathered the facts and agreed to replace the boots with a new pair. The customer service was friendly and helpful and common sensed! Ian in particular was great to deal with. Then I was brought my size for a try in the booties I opted for and they seemed right. I tried the next size down just to be sure. And I was. Bish bash bosh, booties got. (I love the fact they are called booties, makes me smile every time) To be honest my visit here today was rushed (as I was tight on time and knew what I wanted), but it appears to have a lot going on in the store. The Great Outdoors brand is a bit pricey though, this and their other main store around the corner are the only shops of their types on this side of town and they know it. But the staff know their stuff and they do stock a good range of gear.

I used to be a big basketball player. I just couldn't get enough of the sport, I would play for…read more5-6 hours a day, and then go back to the gym at night to do some shooting practice. There was just one little thing that I didn't like ... conditioning. Now don't get me wrong I didn't have any problem running, etc while playing basketball, it's these little things that they make you do at the end of practice called suicides. I think the name says enough in itself. It's a dreadful line drill. Anyways that has always cemented in my head that running is punishment. So last year I foolishly took on the task of trying to run the Flora Women's mini-marathon, ok I was only planning on running like 2 miles and walking the rest. Since moving to Ireland the only running shoes I had were shipped over to me by my mom because I just found it so difficult to find a shop with a good selection of women's shoes that weren't outlandishly priced. A runner friend of mine recommended stopping into Mick Dowling's. I was amazed at the selection and how helpful the staff were. They even set me up with some other gear that I would need to make sure my training went off well. Now unfortunately for my training, the pub was right near the gym, and instead of encouraging our training my friend's boyfriend encouraged our drinking. Oh well, at least I have the gear the next time I decided to take up running.

No matter what the sporting ambition is the staff can help you, whether it's how big the studs on your football boots or cross country running shoes should be to what protein shakes/drinks will give you the results you want. I went for the punchbag and gloves combo, reasonably priced and easier to ignore than a treadmill in the corner of a room it was the perfect choice for me! Great shop with a shockingly large selection that I still go back to when I need sports stuff (however rarely that is).
