Since my original review, we've had the pleasure of dining with Amos Dean's on several occasions, picked up some holiday specials from the newsletter, AND hired Michael to cater our wedding reception. (Honestly, one of the things I'm most looking forward to besides marrying my other half!) Obviously no change in stars, just giving you a little more info ;) Everything we've tried is amazing. Truly. Only the freshest ingredients and tastiest recipes that take Iowa food to a whole new level. Michael is a super talented and creative chef who can do anything your heart desires. We were originally hooked by the BLT and brats, but here we are doing a more upscale menu for our wedding surprising even ourselves! Put your absolute faith in him and your tastebuds will thank you. Not to mention the whole team is so friendly and their pricing is very affordable. Find the Amos Dean's food truck. Oh. My. Gawd! Amos Deans catered a Yelp event which we attended. Let me just say that this was some of the most amazing food that I've had while I have been in Iowa. Yes, that sounds dramatic but it's true. Everything about this food was incredible. The brisket was mouthwatering. No sauce was needed because there was so much flavor in the meet that it melted in your mouth. Next up, the brussels sprouts with bacon. I thought I knew what bacon was supposed to taste like. Then I had this bacon. I don't know if I will ever be able to go back to regular bacon again. This bacon put all other thick cut bacon it to shame. Not only was it thick but it was flavorful with just the right amount of fat to meat ratio. It was painted with a brussels sprout that was cooked to perfection. Let's be honest, though. Can you really have barbecue without beans? I don't think so. Most the time beans are simply a side dish that you notice if it isn't there but isn't usually worthy of telling anyone about. Not these beans. These beans made the entire meal. With a slightly citrus taste there was just enough spice and sweetness to really make for a flavor extravaganza. Knowing they have a food truck is even better. I will go out of my way now to find this food truck. Anyone who is in the Iowa city area, if you see these guys anywhere, eat their food. read more

Amazing! I was at an event and they served melt in your mouth brisket sandwiches with an amazing slaw that had just the right amount of vinegar and creaminess to it. They also had bacon and Brussels sprouts on a stick. Never shame the Brussels sprouts - especially with Amos Dean's thick cut bacon. They had some of their homemade sausage with sour kraut and mustard also on a stick. I'm not a huge fan of different sausages, but this is the second time I've had Amos Dean's homemade sausage and it's been awesome both times. We finished up with a white bean and sun dried tomato bruschetta. Why have I not thought of using sun dried tomato's in the winter? It was amazing on bread and just plain. The owner is a super nice guy who definitely wants to please the client. I didn't realize they cater events - weddings, work parties, get togethers, etc. they are booked next summer! That's how good they are! Plus for your event there is no set menu. They have things they often do, but if you're thinking of a certain dish or flavor they can make it work! They don't have a store front, but if you want something like the sausages you can call ahead and usually they can make them for you! I'll definitely be checking out where the food truck is located and making my way there. Try this place out! read more

This is the second time I've tried Amos Deans and both times have been truly amazing. The flavors of the meat shine through from the perfectly paired accompaniments. The bacon with Brussels sprouts was so good. My favorite had to be the smoked biscuit sliders. The dried cranberries were a very pleasant surprise if sweetness hidden in the cole slaw. I'll be following them to enjoy their food whenever I can. read more

The corn, you guys! It's so, so good. My first experience at Amos Dean's was during Blues & BBQ in North Liberty in July. My friend and I had biked up from Iowa City, and were ready to do some serious snacking. Before we hit the beer tent, I saw people walking around with these delightful ears of corn on a stick covered in cheese and spices. I decided right then and there that that was what I needed to re-charge before completing our bike ride. After asking where it came from, I was directed to the Amos Dean's tent. I ordered the Elotes, and I was not at all disappointed. Grilled Corn with all of the things... mayo, cojita, chili powder, cilantro, lime juice... it's heavenly - and an extra special treat to enjoy during peak corn season! read more

The family and I stopped at Amos Deans' stand at the Iowa City JazzFest this weekend. The brats were delicious; so delicious in fact that we came BACK to JazzFest the next day and got more! They pretty much make everything from scratch, starting by growing the produce on their farm. I had the opportunity to try this wonderful food at a Yelp event in which we were served steak sandwiches with Brussel sprout bites, white bean bruschetta, and sausage with kraut. I work at the hospital and during the summer there's Food Truck Thursdays by the Pappajohn Biomedical Discovery Building. These guys have the best brisket sandwiche and vegetables. Their grilled asparagus is sooo good! My coworker and I go about every Thursday and get our fix (as we did today). My husband and I wish we could give Amos Dean's Catering and Michael (owner) 10 stars out of 5. We currently live in L.A. but decided to have our wedding close to where I grew up (the Quad Cities) at a barn. Food/catering was our biggest challenge in wedding planning as the barn didn't offer a kitchen or running water, therefore the caterer would need to be able to bring in/build out an on site kitchen for the day! Not only that, but my husband and I had a specific style of food in mind for our wedding. Because the wedding was on a farm we wanted real farm to table food, and food that tasted more like being at a restaurant vs traditional "wedding food". A large portion of our guest list were flying in from both coasts and internationally, and we wanted their experience of the Midwest to go outside the boundaries of what they may have expected. Michael worked tirelessly with us in the months leading up to the wedding to ensure that the menu was exactly as we had envisioned (including detailed touches like empanada appetizers to represent my husbands heritage), and because the food was actually farm to table the backside of our menu was able to site where all the food was sourced from! The day of our wedding we had 100 degree heat and a random flash rain for 1 hour and despite all obstacles Michael and his team delivered a meal that was Michelin Star Restaurant quality! We often wish we could go back to the day just to eat the meal again and are still in awe of the miracle this team pulled off! Whatever you do, hire this team for your next event!
