This is the second time I've tried Amos Deans and both times have been truly amazing. The flavors of the meat shine through from the perfectly paired accompaniments. The bacon with Brussels sprouts was so good. My favorite had to be the smoked biscuit sliders. The dried cranberries were a very pleasant surprise if sweetness hidden in the cole slaw. I'll be following them to enjoy their food whenever I can.

The corn, you guys! It's so, so good. My first experience at Amos Dean's was during Blues & BBQ in North Liberty in July. My friend and I had biked up from Iowa City, and were ready to do some serious snacking. Before we hit the beer tent, I saw people walking around with these delightful ears of corn on a stick covered in cheese and spices. I decided right then and there that that was what I needed to re-charge before completing our bike ride. After asking where it came from, I was directed to the Amos Dean's tent. I ordered the Elotes, and I was not at all disappointed. Grilled Corn with all of the things... mayo, cojita, chili powder, cilantro, lime juice... it's heavenly - and an extra special treat to enjoy during peak corn season!

The family and I stopped at Amos Deans' stand at the Iowa City JazzFest this weekend. The brats were delicious; so delicious in fact that we came BACK to JazzFest the next day and got more! They pretty much make everything from scratch, starting by growing the produce on their farm. Their website says they do catering (approved for the University, fyi) and custom orders (we are hoping to order some sausage from them soon).

Michael catered our daughter's wedding, and every guest said it was the best food they've ever had at a wedding.

Most meals needed to be refrigerated for 24 hours before cooking. They offer a variety of options to suit your needs (2-serving, 3-serving, 6-serving sizes and a gluten-free choice). Each month, there's a new selection of around 15 meals. You can mix and match however you'd like--selecting different meals or multiple portions of your favorites. Pickup locations are available in North Liberty and Kathy's Pies in Cedar Rapids. Every meal arrives frozen with cooking instructions. We rarely have leftovers, but it's still more cost-effective than dining out. I appreciate that there's no subscription requirement, though you do need to order a few weeks in advance since spots fill up quickly. My husband likes to add extra seasoning to some meals for a bit more heat. I wish they offered a wider selection of non-dairy meals for those who are lactose intolerant. This is an excellent option for busy families, new parents, elderly individuals, those recovering from illness or surgery, or anyone wanting to supplement/change up their meal routine. It also makes a great gift for new parents.

We decided to try Naomi's Kitchen to help us along on the rougher days where we just can't get around to making a fresh meal. Naomi's Kitchen has been so much better for us than eating out and always feels and tastes like a home cooked meal. It also gives me a lot of peace of mind knowing that I always have options for a great meal!

My son-in-law had the cinnamon rolls served at Iowa River Landing recently and pronounced them among the best he'd ever had--and he's had plenty! My daughter isn't a baker and decided to order desserts for Thanksgiving here. They were simply perfection. We agreed we have never tasted a better French silk pie. The chocolate flavor was strong and distinct, with a nice balance of lightness and creamy texture like a well-prepared mousse. It's clear the ingredients used were top quality. There was just a hint of saltiness that intensified the sweetness, and the crust was flaky and light. The whipped cream and flakes of chocolate on top were ideal complements to the filling. It's so good we all agreed we need to order another for Christmas, and I'm planning on serving one for my book club, too. What a hit! My daughter also ordered the turkey cookies--genuine works of art. None of us have seen such intricate, creative, colorful designs and the younger children in the family were just captivated! One of the grandchildren has an extremely severe peanut allergy. When my daughter called to ask about the safety of the products in that case, the person she spoke with was so kind and helpful. Some places we've found to be dismissive or defensive. Not so, The Eat Shop. They DO use peanuts sometimes, but they had not used any peanut products in the kitchen for a week prior to Thanksgiving, and they indicated that the risk would be extremely low of any cross-contamination. That is a fair and useful assessment, and we very much appreciated the information. Oh, and wonder of wonders in today's sometimes difficult, hit-or-miss business environment, the pie and cookies were beautifully packaged and DELIVERED to the door with a cheery reminder from the driver that "the pie should be refrigerated." I can very highly recommend The Eat Shop as a lovely little place to find something tasty and gorgeous for a special holiday or just a delightful treat for you or the family. It's easy to order in advance. All of us in the extended family have pretty distinct taste preferences, yet each of us was happy as could be, and that is what I'd call "a Thanksgiving miracle"!
