UNIT ONE Photography Studio - Actual Boudoir photo shoot

UNIT ONE Photography Studio

(1 review)

This review is from a photographer's viewpoint. Anyone who has rented studio time in the Bay Area…read morewill appreciate Unit One. Selit is a skilled and experienced photographer himself, and has run a studio before, and that may explain why he has got so many things right already in a new studio. Unit One provides three-point lighting at a minimum, and with aplomb. A variety of modifiers is available for two of the (Elinchrom) lights. For example, I had a giant umbrella - that provided really soft lighting - on the key light, and a softbox on the fill light. I controlled/adjusted them through a software console running on a conveniently-placed laptop... and this ease of control is one of the special features of Unit One. There is more than one set. The main set is spacious, with a high ceiling and plenty of room for your equipment and props. The seamless background is changeable, and it is large enough that framing from different angles won't take you 'off the background'. And there's a ladder available for you to try more perspectives. Besides one other set (that has furniture), there are a wall - with a brick pattern - and a window... all in all, at least three or four different 'settings' for your shoot. There's plenty of other space in the studio - a changing-area for the model(s), a break-room, office, etc. And Selit has to be the most helpful studio owner I have ever worked with. The location is convenient, especially for those coming from San Francisco or the Peninsula. It isn't far from the 280 or 101 or a BART station. And, for anyone who is familiar with the very high costs of renting studio time in San Francisco, Unit One is a fantastic and much more reasonable option.

It is an L-shaped studio with a 16 feet high ceiling and is approximately 1,700 SF in area. The studio features a main entrance with a 13 feet wide by 14 feet high roll up door and is 19 feet wide by 49 feet deep. Please see floor plan. The studio owner, aside from being an accomplished photographer, is a furniture designer and general contractor and can assist in building sets to suit your needs. UNIT ONE Photography Studio is about 10 minutes away from the San Francisco International Airport and is located in the heart of the South San Francisco Industrial area. We are walking distance from a fast food restaurant and a popular Chinese restaurant. Hotels, restaurants and bars abound. A list and link is provided in the website. Tanforan Mall and the San Bruno Bart Station is less than 5 minutes away. The studio has a 300 SF reception and office area with a clean rest room, make up and dressing area. We have a small but cozy kitchenette / dinette. Free parking is available. I received my album having been away for a few days and wow!!!!!…read more I am so thrilled with the results. From the very first time I reached out and received Andy's response I knew I wanted to go ahead with this adventure. And what an adventure it's been. My only regret is that I didn't do it sooner! I'm so happy with the results and I had so much fun with her and her amazing make up artist on the day. Two awesome women with make up, a camera, some great lighting and champagne? Pretty perfect day! I felt beautiful, comfortable and most importantly had so much FUN. I have wonderful memories from this whole experience! I'm sure you're sick of hearing it but THANK YOU! It must be so fulfilling to have a job where you get to make women feel like the best versions of themselves.

I researched different photographers and Andrea caught my eye for 2 reasons: her beautiful, timeless and elegant photos and her dialogue around doing a boudoir photo shoot. She starts with introspective questions about what you want to portray in your photos. She nurtures a healthy body image along the way and makes you feel your best from the inside out. That is truly her magic. The day itself was so special where I got to step out of my normal routine and into the routine of a super model. Andrea and her team had every detail worked out, so I could just relax and go with it. I visited Andrea again to review the photos to choose my favorites. There were too many and I ended up making the book bigger to solve that "problem." The end product is two books (boudoir + fine art) full of beautiful, professional photos. I gifted the book the morning of our wedding day and my now husband was absolutely floored. They now live on his nightstand and we both look at the often. Thank you, Andrea! When can we do it again?!?!

I actually found him after speaking with a different boudoir photography company whose ad I had seen on Instagram; I decided to do some research before committing to anyone, and found Cheshire on Yelp, checked out his website, and put in an inquiry. He called me very quickly and the conversation was so different from the other places I spoke with! Instead of just laying out "here's how it works, here's what you get for this price," etc., he asked a lot about what I was looking for, what I hoped to get out of it, my motivations or inspirations, etc. That personal touch carried throughout the experience. He consistently made an effort to understand what I was looking for--from the planning process to the photo shoot to going through the photos afterward--to make sure that I got exactly what I was hoping for. The photos themselves are absolutely awesome. It's incredible the different looks and feels he creates in a relatively small studio. More importantly, he just has an incredible eye for what is going to look good and how to create looks, moods, etc. I felt super comfortable the whole time, and I think that shows in the final product. Everyone who has seen my pictures has been blown away. He's way more than just a photographer; he's a true artist. Never in a million years had I ever imagined having a giant naked photo of myself on my wall, and yet here we are...and everyone who's seen it has been amazed. Can't recommend him highly enough!

That may be far too dramatic a term but it really sums up my inspiring photo experience with photographer Lone Mrch Schneider. My 34th birthday was approaching and I wanted to replace the standard feelings of gloom about growing older with a more positive experience. Indulging myself with a sexy and revealing boudoir photo session was the best birthday gift I could give to myself. In a serendipitous way I happened upon Lolo's Boudoir website (www.lolosboudoir.com) and instantly knew she was the one. Her photographic style instinctively appealed to me: ethereal but natural, timeless, spontaneous, sensual and revealing yet at times coquettish. I can't claim to be an expert on the art of photography but I have strong opinions on what I like and don't like. So many other photo boudoir websites had revealed to be tacky, campy and very artificial. Lolo's Boudoir has heartfelt style. Before our session I felt a little self conscious and I had warned Lone that I might prove to be one of her more 'curvier' clients and that given the wrong angle I might not be one of her most photogenic! She reassured me through examples from her portfolio she would discover the best I had to give. Lone possesses artistic mindfulness. She kindly encouraged the real me to the surface and helped me uncover the beauty I thought I never possessed. The entire experience was an awakening and rebirth of my sensual spirit. Lone has the magical ability to transform any environment. We had an outdoors photo shoot where she transformed the forest into a starlet's dressing room. Lone's gentle, fun and professional personality allowed me to shed all inhibitions. I spent a cold winter morning frolicking about the forest, playing the role of nymph, drama queen and even bathing beauty as I shed all and luxuriated in the freezing cold stream water. At that moment I felt I had experienced a 'creative baptism' of sorts. Regardless of just whom you have in mind while you're smiling (or smirking, flirting, luring) for while posing for the camera lens; you should always be posing for yourself. Just you. A photographic experience at Lolo's Boudoir is all about you. It's a special time for you to be sensual, carefree, indulgent, sexy and alluring. With a complimentary glass of champagne and a few nibbles of fine chocolate...how could you not be?

This particular type of photography was out of my normal comfort zone and Tiffany made me feel at ease the whole time. Tiffany prioritizes spending time with clients before, during, and after the photo shoot to make sure that she is able to capture your vision and deliver photos that exceed your expectations. During the pre-shoot consultation, she spent time discussing what types of photos I wanted to capture and she provided helpful guidance on how I could prepare (and what to consider in clothing choices) to have the best shoot possible. Onsite during the shoot, she worked efficiently to capture as many photos as possible, while still taking the time to connect and help me feel at ease. And within a relatively short timeframe after the shoot, she scheduled time to review and help walk me through the process to select the photos for my package. The hardest part was narrowing down photos since she captured so many different options that I loved for different reasons. I hope to work with Tiffany again in the future.

Though I've never reviewed a photography studio, I'd like to give this studio and couple a shout out. I came here one evening for a boudoir photo session, and was expecting to find a bed. Something that I'm used to seeing during boudoir sessions. However, no bed was to be found. I was confused but also very curious as to why this was. I went to change into my first outfit and shyly walked out. I sat on a chair and the rest was history. Before the shoot: Laura spoke with me and told me what to expect. She laid out the plans to have a cabaret style shoot and to bring my best lingerie. She did have a few things in the studio, she said, but as a plus size model, I purchased a few things to make sure I would be comfortable and fit. When walking in the studio, I met with Mark, her husband and the editor of the photos. He was very kind and offered a lot of support for his wife. It was nice to see a great couple working together doing what they love. During the shoot: Laura was very helpful. She offered poses that would not only make me feel sexy, but also direction that would make my body look fantastic in the photos. Unfortunately, one do the poses that I loved doing didn't make the final cut - if only I looked great in that one. It was one of my favorite things. She had me balancing with one leg extended on a chair, "cabaret" style. She even put a laptop in front of me to see a small part of the movie to get me in the spirit. She offered music that was both comforting and fun, and the atmosphere was just.. beautiful. We worked very well and I felt my best working with her. It was wonderful. After the shoot: Laura and I agreed to a video chat where she shared my best images and I chose the ones that I wanted to edit. It was an easy process and it took only a few minutes. I was stunned to see how gorgeous they turned out. She offered a great variety to choose from and I was happy with my choices. The end result was a great experience and beautiful memorable photos. My husband was pleased and he loved the entire experience watching on the sides line and seeing the results. The only thing that I would recommend is a fan. It was quite hot under the lights, but aside from that - it was awesome! Thank you Laura for this experience and photography and Mark for your great editing skills!
