After reading multiple reviews, clients quoted waxing at Amiika as being 'painless,' I was won over. I opted for a Hollywood wax-don't think it was explained to me very clearly.
I was 15 minutes late to my appointment.
It was far from painless. It was actually incredibly painful, on the traumatizing end. At one point, I looked down and there was a lot of blood-spotting is not descriptive, more like a splattering. It was like I was getting butchered. I was in tears throughout the whole process and shocked.
Since this is my first time having my hoo-ha waxed, I have no reference to compare whether this was done correctly. It would have helped if the technician, had walked me through the steps. Also, there was no trimming. I wondered if it would have been less painful, had the aesthetician trimmed. I remembered reading that hair gets trimmed to 1/4 inch before wax. I had to ask, after a few rounds of excruciating pain (my pain tolerance is moderately high), I asked her if she was suppose to trim. I was asked to hold my belly taut at beginning to each strip being pulled.
Also, some powder in unlabeled jar was applied at the end, which stung, I had no idea what it was or what it does. Again, it would have been nice to have been told this is such and such, and now I am going to do this to you... I felt the procedure was rushed (granted I was late so this may have contributed) and insensitive (strongly handled) and lacked empathy. When I asked to have it stopped possibly due to pain, I was pressed to have it completed, 'almost done'...repeatedly told.
I was in disagreement-at the aesthetician's (apologize no intention of rudeness by referencing her by 'aesthetician' and not by name-I don't remember it and may not have been introduced) personal philosophy -of not being waxed as being 'uncleaned'. read more
