The pappardelle with mushrooms and sausage was excellent. My dad tried a bit of it and promptly ordered his own. The sauce was just right, flavorful without being too heavy. But if you need lunch before or after the mosaics, avoid the tourist traps in Casale and come here instead. I was greeted in a most welcoming manner, and ushered to a comfortable interior table. Being a Brit, I wanted to sit outside (I would have been the only one), but this was no problem and Antonio swiftly laid up a table for me. There is a pleasant view of the Garibaldi Theatre from the front terrace of the restaurant. I was pining for a good tomato salad, and boy did they deliver! So good that I snapped it and the result is in the pics attached. But this was not before I had taken their mixed antipasti - always a good way to judge the mettle of an Italian restaurant; my policy is to order the antipasti misti only to start, and if they are good, I will place an order for mains; if bad, I cash up and go. In this case, I was brought a sumptuous plate of local produce - green and black marinated olives, salami and salsicce, artichoke hearts marinated in lemon and oil, raw mushrooms, roast peppers and courgettes, melanzane grigliate con mozzarella. By the time I'd finished, I could barely manage a small portion of pappardelle with rabbit sauce. Indoors, chef was keen to know how was the food, and Antonio wanted me to see the reproduction mosaics that adorned the ceiling of the restaurant. The toilets were faultless. And the bill? £15 including a half carafe of red and a small bottle of water. Magnifico!

When it arrived I realized that there was barely any lobster meat - not more than one bite and I complained. The pasta also was not exactly al dente. The same lady said she would report to the chef. Nothing happened though and all the staff did their best to avoid me. I left my food largely uneaten. When it came to paying and I faced the same lady again she just said she could do nothing !!! Not a proper apology, not an offer of a coffee or a liqueur. Nothing! Incredibly rude and unprofessional staff and disastrous food. At the end of the: a complete rip off. Never again and I would recommend not going to this so called restaurant.

And so it was: Antipasto siciliano, octopus salad, rigatoni and risotto pescatorio were all perfect - paired with the warm outdoor seating and the so charming attitude of the Italian staff.
