I had the good fortune of having my daughter arrange her father's funeral through Ames. Since her father had a serious infection, Dr Ames took the time to explain how the funeral service takes measures to ensure the health of the family while still allowing us to safely hold a wake. Mr. Ames walked me through the process step by step. He explained every aspect of the process and made himself available on just about every occasion that I called. I contacted Ames Funeral Home to transfer my stepfather's remains to his native country. My experience with them started well. They were timely and respectfully handled the pick up of his body from my home. Mr. Ames was compassionate and I didn't feel pressured by him. Things unfortunately went downhill after that. When I met with him in person to discuss the details of the services that we wanted, he became annoyed and defensive by my questions. After signing the contract, I felt like my case was placed at the bottom of the pile. Whenever I called to follow up on the status of things, I wouldn't get a clear answer from neither Mr. Ames or his son. That is when I started to lose trust in their ability to handle things. We unfortunately had to cremate my stepfather's remains because Ames Funeral Home could not efficiently handle our case. In my last meeting with Mr.Ames he was short and didn't even bother to wear a face mask. I could tell he wanted to be done with me and my family. To be fair, my case was complex since I wanted to transfer the remains of my stepfather internationally, during a pandemic. I think that they should have been more honest about their limited staff and lack of knowledge in handling this kind of service. If I could go back in time, I would not have chosen them to handle such a sensitive matter. read more

I suffered a devastating loss when my husband passed away on September 26, 2020. He fought long and hard for 4 years and 9 mo. I met Malcom that day when he came to the hospital to pick up my husbands body. He told me about the process and that he would be available for any questions that I may have. Mr. Malcolm and his wife are incredible people with a staff that is more than eager to help any way that they could. There had been some family dynamics' that I had been dealing with that was affecting me negatively emotionally and physically. On more than one occasion Malcolm sat down with me in counsel, advice etc. My husband was a loving husband, family man, community servant etc...The love that I have for him was shown in the beautiful way the mortuary took care of his body. I must also point out that there was a 2nd service to be held in another state and my husbands body still looked good for the second service and final resting place. The service inside the church was coordinated beautifully and Malcolm made sure that the Military was there for there part of the service. During this time of COVID we were fortunate that our church was large enough for social distancing. Malcolm and the Ames staff kept the flow moving and gave everyone the allotted time to see his body and pay their respects. I was referred to Ames mortuary by a friend and even though there were a few bad reviews I went with Ames because my friend would not lead me wrong knowing how important this was to me and secondly a few of the negative reviews were given during an emotional time and had the writer told Mr. Malcolm what was going on I feel like he would have done what he could to rectify the situation. Once again I have nothing bad to say about this mortuary and the the staff. Every single one of them helped me out in one way or another during the absolute worse time in my life. read more

My experience with this funeral home was not good. The owner has no compassion, hes insensitive, inconsiderate and disrespectful when it comes to trying to mourn the dead. He is policing as you look at the body, he came up with some weird excuse that you cannot touch or kiss the body because you might get sick and that there was a lawsuit about someone getting sick..mind you all of this was being spoken about in front of the body as we mourn we have to hear about a lawsuit. I have NEVER EVER been told you cannot touch or kiss your loved one as I grew up in funerals and have witnessed over 100 funerals of my own loved ones and of friends and never have I been told this nonsense. Now I wonder what kind of makeup or chemicals if he uses any..what kind are they that they "smear" or are harmful to you like we stupid. Must be bad toxic makeup. Then he tells us we have to leave because he has another family that needs to see a body too. Then we said can we pray? He was like well I guess you can pray here then but I have that other family....rushing the shit out of us and then it's an emotional rollercoaster because if you havent seen the body until then, he gives you 10 minutes and rushes you through your emotions and then its like check, check, check...all good ok we will see you at the church tomorrow. SMH! Oh so we leave right now??? Ok well what the fuck you make us go thru an emotional feeling and bye..business is business. NO COMPASSION AT ALL! Even an outsider noticed he was just off tune. Just in the wrong business or needs to take funeral classes and learn it's not just a business. Anyways again with the emotional rollercoaster at the church..he's like stand here, stand there, we will walk in see the body, dont touch and walk to your seats and then after, go back outside and do it all over again, 3rd emotional rollercoaster constantly policing us, making us do this and that with no love or acknowledge meant and rushes us past the body. Just a crazy, crazy thing. Never ever seen anything like this. What a production and in the end cant really just be with the body in peace. Do this and do that, stand here, go there rush rush rush. Horrible. At the burial site, he wouldn't let us watch the body go down into ground and had the NERVE to say, oh insurance purposes you cant be there and that's when I snapped and said are you kidding, INSURANCE PURPOSE I cant be sad and stand here! Well after he heard that, he came to me to tell me where I could stand to watch him go into ground. Man what an experience this has been. Never again! Not ever with Ames after that. read more

Ames was rude and disrespectful from the start. The men who picked my father up had no care for my grieving mother and kept rolling their eyes. Ames funeral home called my mother every single day from the day after he died to the day of the funeral. She told them exactly what she wanted and exactly how she wanted it done. Nothing was done how she said, NOTHING. My father didn't even look like himself at all. Looking at him was like looking at a complete stranger. My father's family has been using them for years but recently the father who did all the work has become too old and his son has taken over but we thought he would've been well trained from his father, our mistake. We found out that the reason my father's face was completely altered was because they add things to the embalming because they DO NOT refrigerate the bodies. They disrespected my father's body in numerous ways for example my mother didn't like how they did his hair because he never wore his hair like that so what did they do? They aggressively put their hand on his head and shook so his hair would look messy. Because of this horrendous experience the entire family will no longer have business with these people. They continued to over charge my mother for anything they thought they could get out of her. Today she gets a phone call demanding where their money is because insurance is taking their time. They don't care about the grieving family. They don't care about the loved deceased. All they care about is how cheap they can be and how much money they can take from out of your pocket. I'd rather my family bury me in our backyard then ever go here. If you truly love your deceased you wouldn't take them here. read more
