This company has no integrity ! Poor customer service and will give you the run around.

This is regarding a home in Heathsville, VA. My dad passed away in June 2025 and had an outstanding bill of $300. I paid the bill and requested his home to be taken off of auto refill and placed on "will call". This did not happen and AmeriGas refilled the tank and sent a bill for over $1,270.00. I have been disputing this bill as they filled the tank in error. Their resolution is for me to pay the bill and have the new owners of the home after it has been sold to remiburse me. This is not acceptable and I requested them to pump out the gas they filled in error leaving in the amount that was already in the tank. They refuse to do this. Now they have locked the tank and I cannot use any of the gas that was in the tank and had been for. In reviewing AmeriGas I see there have been lawsuits against them. read more

I was an Amerigas customer for propane delivery for many years. When I started, their pricing was competitive and I did not compare to other companies over the following years. When I was hit by a $2000 bill, I did compare and found that they were charging more than $1 per gallon more than competitors. Beware! read more

AmeriGas (former as of today) customer in Brookeville MD. This company is a disgrace and I don't use that word lightly. I would give zero stars if I could. Sitting with an empty propane tank in the middle of winter going on 96 hours -- even though my order was supposedly in emergency / urgent status. What reputable, well-operated company treats their customers this way? I spent most of my career in the electric & gas industry is that NOT how we would have treated a customer without heat or power in the middle of winter. The tank was at empty because a) they offer no monitoring capability, b) their usage projection was not sophisticated enough to take into account a colder than usual winter and c) because they weren't rolling trucks until tanks were projected to be 5% full (when other companies roll trucks at 35%-40% to avoid just this situation). Hard earned lesson: if you do choose to do business with this company, get used to checking the tank on a weekly basis and not relying on their automated delivery because they have clearly demonstrated no ability to accurately project usage and dispatch service. Sitting on hold going on an hour now waiting for a "customer advocate" to finalize the cancellation of my account as I write this. read more

Customer over years. Had to beg for delivery then they charged me for two. Couldn't get anyone on the phone. Decided to close account and switch to a better company. They charged me $299.99 for tank pick up and $119 for truck dispatch fee. Unbelievable! Hope they go under. read more

If I could give a zero, that's what this company deserves. Had a site survey from this company on March 23. 2023. We were charged 99.99, which was to go toward installation fees. We had an appointment for installation with email and text confirmation. The company did not show up. When we called, they said they had no record of the appointment. Ok, so things happen, there can be mix ups. We made another appointment to which we received the same confirmations. No one showed up. This happened 4 times! It is now mid May and we still have no service. Was told when I called today that we will be reimbursed our $99.99, but I'm not holding my breath to see it anytime soon. read more

Refusing to come pick up their disconnected tank and attempting to charge us even though we ended their services. It's been a month and it's still sitting in my yard. When we told them to come get the tank their services were no longer required they stated we did not owe them anything and we would not be charged. Shady business stay far away from them. read more

We bought a house in the beginning of last November with a propane stove, fed by a tank rented from Amerigas. We did the forms to start an account with them, had our credit run, paid around $100 for an inspection of the tank and... nothing. They just disappeared. I've emailed them intermittently ever since, trying to get them to tell us what's going on, and they occasionally bother to write back - and when they do, they tell me they'll call right away or something of that ilk, only it never happens. I understand that the lady we bought our house from still occasionally receives bills, but we haven't gotten one yet, and haven't officially started an account. To the best of my knowledge (and it's possible; the tank was filled shortly before we moved in and a little goes a long way), they haven't delivered gas since we bought the house. And I can't seem to get them to. If you like your sanity, look around for someone with better reviews here or on Angie's list. I have never worked with any company so categorically unable to do what it's supposed to do as this one. I should never have wasted the money to get them to inspect the tank. I just hope that when I tell them they have to get their tank off our property, they act on that. read more

When we moved into our house recently, setting up our bills went smoothly with every company EXCEPT FOR AMERIGAS. The previous owner had opened an account with them and we had a full tank, but for us attempting to set up an account was a nightmare. I gave them my email address to send an application, and they lost my address and didn't do anything until I visited them in person to correct it. Afterwards they were very unclear about what they wanted me to send them, and after numerous typos in their emails they finally offered me a very limited time for setup (why I needed to be there is beyond me). When it was clear that they weren't willing to work with me, I decided to cancel altogether; I wasn't going to waste time setting up a bill for something I only used once to test our fireplace. I am now hearing from the previous owner that they are giving him a very hard time about closing his account, even going so far as to say that the tank was empty (as opposed to being completely full, which it was) when they picked it up. This is an incompetent company that's trying to rob you of your time and money without compensation. I'm so glad I didn't pay their $80 setup cost. read more

I am a prisoner of Amerigas since the tank is underground and when we bought our house the previous owner rented the tank from Amerigas. I was being charged $5.86 per gallon when I first moved in back in 2011 when the fair market price at the time was $2.99. I have been trying to buy my tank so that i can move to another carrier and they told me I could in 2013 and they would send me the price - and I waited and waited and waited and called and called.... needless to say when I finally was able to reach someone the previous person no longer worked there and I could not buy my tank. Now the tank is 16 years old. I just received a 37% increase in my rate for the next year. 37% increase in heating costs.... that sounds crazy to me and I have not been able to get a call back from them for the past 8 days. read more

We use Amerigas for propane delivery. We have called them out to request a refill and they will not come out when requested. They say it is to conserve trips to "the area" but we have concluded that is is because when we call the price of propane is low, but when they decide to make a delivery it always seems the price has recently gone up. We even stated that we would get all of our neighbors to get refilled or topped off at the same time to counter their "conserve trips" argument so they weren't making a trip out to our area for one house yet they were still unwilling to do so. Noteworthy is the fact that the last time they refilled our tank they stated that they were unable to fill it to capacity so they would be back the following day. They never showed up the following day, probably again due to the drop in prices, although I did not have time to confirm this, this time. We brought this to their attention and their answer was that we could buy our tank outright and then switch companies if we were unhappy with them. Great response huh? That is however exactly what we do plan to do since they are unwilling to work out a fair solution. We have had propane deliveries by other companies in the past at different homes and they come on a set basis, every first Wednesday of odd numbered months or however you want to set it up. These companies would come as often as you wanted or whatever schedule you wanted, for example monthly in the winter and semimonthly in the summer but either way it was done in a fair unbiased way; not in a way to maximize the companies profits and screw the consumer. Also very difficult to budget this way since you never know when they are coming. At any given time the charge can well over $1,000 and they expect full payment immediately. read more

I want to know why I can't get 2 propane tanks picked up I stopped service early July I have been told 4 time that they would be picked up and no one showed up and I just found out from the corporate office that whoever was to pick them today said the were picked up I have photos proving they are still here. read more

I am too upset to explain my experience, so I though posting the e-mail I wrote to Amerigas would provide the outline of my story. DO NOT USE AMERIGAS. E-Mail to Amerigas: Dear Amerigas, I wanted to bring it to your attention the lack of customer relations and service that has given to my wife and I. We just purchased a home and struggled to have our tank turned on (it was locked out). Once that was complete, which was like pulling teeth from our local office who gave us nothing but unprofessional service and were rude on the phones, we quickly ran out of gas (about a month and a half we burned about 300 gallons!). When I called to have gas delivered, we were informed that we should have had a leak inspection before service. Our account hadn't even been set up! So, we were sent an inspector who did a good job with the inspection and FOUND A LEAK! He fixed it, but we were still left without gas. When I called about this, we were told it would be a week before anyone could come by. Other companies are have a lager shortage and still provide 24 hour service. Here are my two main issues: 1) The leak that was found should have been addressed before/when we moved in. If this had happened, which I assume is a company policy, then we might not have ran out of gas due to the leak. We have a programmable control and keep the temp low, so there should have been no reason to run through 300 gallons that quick! 2) THIS IS THE BIG ONE! After being told we would not get gas for a week, we had to spend $350 on space heaters to keep our pipes from freezing ( and they still may as these issues have not been addressed). So I finally hear back from the lady in the Warrenton VA office, who gives me an attitude for asking for gas, saying "welcome to winter, everyone needs gas and if you don't take it (the gas), then I have 30 thousand people who will". So I asked her to have 100 gallons filled into my 500 gallon tank. She told me "no" that I had to have at least a 60% fill. I'm not sure what Amerigas's policy is, but I feel I should be able to purchase 100 gallons. Anyway, she told me they would have to fill 200 gallons. I told her we couldn't afford that, but I would contact my wife and figure it out and to put the order in. After talking with my wife, we decided it was too much for us at the time, so she called as I e-mailed to cancel the order. My wife did get through to the company and had the order canceled 5 minutes after we place the order. So after returning home, I find a notice on my door that states that they filled our tank with 200 gallons and locked the tank out due to not being able to do a leak test. NOT ONLY did we cancel that order due to not being able to afford it, but even if we could, we had the leak test 4 days prior, which I had to pay $150 for! So in conclusion: I wanted to bring it to someone other than our Warrenton, VA local office because we have received nothing but terrible service. If this is delivered to said office, please handle this e-mail professionally or forward it to higher management. We should not have delivered ANY gas and will not be held responsible for any charges. If this becomes an issue, your company records their phone calls (or so the message states when put on hold) and we can clearly show that the order for gas had been canceled and confirmed by the Warrenton VA office. We would like to cancel service, and since our tank should have been empty, should not be charged for a purge, or any gas that is in the tank for that matter. Please respond as soon as you can so we can resolve this pressing matters. Regards read more

Watch out for Amerigas in Ellicott City. They will quote one price and then will send a bill for twice as much. All the neighbors switched to Suburban because of the Shadiness going on at Amerigas read more

The other reviews are consistent with our experience. When we order propane from the Ellicott City Amerigas operation, we are given a delivery date which is never met. When we call back to follow up, we are put on hold and then eventually told that we are "on the delivery schedule" for that day. Being "on the delivery schedule" is apparently code for "We want to get you off of the phone, but don't really know when or if we will actually deliver anything." It certainly does not mean that propane will actually be delivered that day. read more
