Honestly, This place is huge! The ultimate, go to place for the kids. If you need fireworks' for the 4th July or any occasion. America Thunder has your "Thunder" boom. I meant the owner, and to my surprise. A real Cool Guy? The sales floor was user friendly. Plenty upon plenty of choices to make things go boom in the sky or on the ground. Being able to see what you are getting before you buy it at their kiosks in the store is a major plus and can't be understated - you can even scan codes on your phone if you don't want to use their kiosk. They are Open all year long. But One of my favorite times of year is Fourth of July! It's the only time I get to annoy all my neighbors at once. With all of the dazzling, shimmering, sparkling, glimmering, glowing, twinkling, fireworks lighting up the night sky. But in order to do that I need to find the right fireworks and the right price. I don't want to spend 2 hours lighting filler fireworks. Give me about 30 minutes of quality fireworks to light and I'm good. That's why I like America's Thunder Fireworks. While their store isn't the biggest of the fireworks stores, their selection of fireworks is pretty awesome. Also their assortment packs are the best around. Here are a few things that puts this location above the rest. 1) they have online videos that shows you what the fireworks you purchase are going to do. 2) they also have touch screens in the store that will show you the same videos. 3) staff is friendly and helpful. 4) no buy one get one free gimmicks. 5) straight forward reasonable pricing. 6) assortment firework packs that give greater bang for your buck, not packed with outdated filler fireworks. 7) you save on taxes and toll if you live in Louisville, by not having to cross the bridge 8) it's only 10 minutes or one exit once you pass the Gene Snyder. 9)the also allow you to order online and pick it up at the store, which is why the online video display of the fireworks is awesome. Here's an example of how you overpay with buy one get one free at phantom fireworks. So their Rolling Thunder assortment is filled with fillers and priced at $109.99 but if you use their mailer coupon then it's $44. Which is what you should pay considering what comes in the package. So at phantom the rolling thunder package is $109 and is buy one get on free. You have about 13 good fireworks (26 total because you get in pack free) in each pack that are not fillers. Or you could buy the the Total Dominance pack for $99 at America's thunder Fireworks and get 35 good fireworks and and Roman candles $4, firecrackers $2 and bottle rockets $5. Paying about the same price but better quality. When I talk about firework fillers, I'm talking about things like Roman Candles, firecrackers, bottle rockets (firecracker), jumping jacks, snakes and as Joe Dirt would say "You're gonna stand there, ownin' a fireworks stand, and tell me you don't have no whistlin' bungholes, no spleen splitters, whisker biscuits, hoosker doos, hoosker don'ts, cherry bombs, nipsy daisers, with or without the scooter stick, or one single whistlin' kitty chaser? read more

I don't know why Yelp filters out legitimate reviews on awesome things...same thing with the strip clubs in Louisville, it only shows 1 and 2 star ratings for 5 star businesses. Anyway, America's Thunder is a spectacular facility that would annihilate any hillbilly tent stand out of existence. Super clean store and the staff is great. I got a ton of fireworks for $100, and they have touch screen testers of what fireworks you are interested...see and hear them before you decide which one. Too cool! Also, the owners are the reason legislation has passed to buy fireworks in Kentucky so you don't have to drive across the river to get them. You can thank their efforts for being able to purchase in-state. read more

I'm from Massachusetts, so I know very little about fireworks, apart from sparklers, but I was visiting with family in the area for a relative's 60th birthday party, and another cousin coming from Florida who has a lot of experience offered to do a fireworks display, if I'd get the goods. We sorted out a budget and a few family friends suggested I go to America's Thunder. The store was a little overwhelming at first- they have a massive selection, and I'm relatively clueless! I was immediately put at ease, however, when the sales clerk assisted me- and he really went out of his way to do so. I explained my budget, and what I was trying to achieve in terms of effect, and felt a bit foolish explaining that I liked "the big ones that look a bit glittery" and was less of a fan of "the loud ones that look like a flare"- needless to say that I got just the help I needed, they were incredibly patient with me, and very helpful, and they subtly enquired about if I'd have help, making sure that *I* wasn't the one lighting them, since I was SO clearly inept. ;) They really took the time to help me choose the right fireworks for a wonderful, unforgettable end of the night surprise, and my cousin from FL who actually set everything off was impressed with what I had purchased for the money. I'll be sure to visit them again the next time I'm in the area, to get my fireworks fix, and I'd definitely recommend the place to anyone in need of some fireworks- no matter what your budget, these guys can definitely help you put on a spectacular show! My husband and I decided to visit Shepherdsville for the Fourth of July as a little get away. We've never been to this part of Kentucky before so we decided to call this establishment to see if there were any specific firework shows in the area. The employee that answered the phone for us responded in a very rude manor. Something along the lines of "really dude? You're asking for a firework show? Everyone's been buying them just look out your window". We are staying in a hotel that is completely surrounded by buildings. We can't see any from our window. I don't see what is so difficult about answering without an attitude. We clearly stated we aren't from here. My suggestion is just go to phantom. I've been to a few of their stores back home and they always have a nice supply & helpful employees. That's more than what this establishment can say for themselves. read more

I've been a fireworks aficionado my entire life. Since I am regularly on the road travelling long distances for work, I take the opportunity to stretch my legs at every fireworks store seen. I can honestly say the prices and selection here cannot be beat. The store is locally owned and family run which makes it even better. Owner Dennis and his wife are usually there and always helpful. I highly recommend America's Thunder Fireworks, its worth the trip even if a few hours away. And even with the competitor offering buy one get one free, the prices here are still better. read more

Wow! You have to check this place out! There are so many fireworks here and it's air conditioned!! They have these really cool displays so you can watch videos IN THE STORE of what the fireworks do before you spend your $$ on them. I was really surprised at the prices. We got a cart full of stuff really cheap; we were lighting stuff off all night long! And the staff is really friendly and helpful. I have been in the store numerous times. They have, by far, the biggest selection around! The prices are great. I love the fact that you can see what everything does on a computer before you buy it. After years of shopping with Phantom I was converted to exclusively purchasing my fireworks from America's Thunder. The prices are much more reasonable and they don't try any gimmicks like the "buy one get one" deals which, once you do the math, work out to be more expensive than America's Thunder. It's helpful that they are open year round. I buy fireworks for New Year's Birthdays and even Mother's Day. They have excellent customer service and a nice clean store. read more
