Grinchmas is an annual Christmas event that takes place in a church in Shepherdsville Kentucky…read morecalled Journey. The church transforms there building into the grinches lair, whoville and other Christmas holiday favorites. This is a free event that the congregation of this church does a few weekends of the holiday season. You go to there website and reserve a time Frame and date along with your party size for virtual tickets. You line up at your time and walk through this amazing doctorated and creative holiday wonderland. Like the people who designed this have to be engineers or something it is so creative and fun. It's like walking through a movie set. Each section offers something different. It is mainly grinch themed and as you go room to room it legit has the grinch story book. page by page on each wall. At the beginning they have a scavenger hunt game with other hidden Christmas gems. Like for instance one of the air vents had a picture of Bruce Willis character John McClain from die hard in homage to the famed vent scene. Also spread throughout each room was cool meet and greet opportunities with not only the grinch Himself, but buddy the elf, Cindy lou who, the whole whoville villagers, Jack skeleton and finally at the end Santa and his workshop. The characters here were so good at what they did. I'm not sure if they are hired actors or if this congregation has some phenomenal talented members. But everybody played there role brilliantly. The grinch, buddy the elf and the whoville people especially. One of my favorite things that Happened and what will be a for sure long time Christmas memories is my 7 year old daughter who will absolutely only talk to me, her grandpas and one of her uncles when it comes to men walked in the room with buddy the elf. Buddy the elf excitedly "hi little girl". My 7 year old daughter disappears behind my oldest daughters backside. Buddy slowly and cautiously in hilarious will Ferrell like fashion creeps to her looking for a fist bump. My 7 year old is having no part and is backing away and buddy the elf said what you would expect the movie version to say "little girl I just wanna spread holiday cheers for the whole world to share". So we all got a kick out of that and it's just an example of how in character these volunteers were. They really made it seem so legit with the character acting. As mentioned towards the end you hit Santa workshop for a picture with Santa. They also have some decorations and a fake snow blower for kids to play in. They have a stand with complimentary hot chocolates too. Several tables setup for you to sit and relax for a drink before departing. At the end there were some donation jars. There was nobody there forcing or demanding you donate. There was not anyone trying to promote or recruit you to there parish (which I honestly was expecting for a church event). Just a fun, free and creative event for the whole family to enjoy. Overall This was amazing. Me and the family may have a new favorite local holiday tradition. The folks here put on an amazing, fun and memorable event. I'll tell everyone I know To try and visit grinchmas next holiday season. Great job to the folks at journey church for doing as buddy elf would say "spreading holiday cheers for the whole world to share".

After the initial event the light show still lights up every night until the end of the holiday season. In years past I've taken my kids to the park to see the lights and they are always very nice and well down. One of the better light shows in the Lousiville and surrounding cities such as Shepherdsville. This year in 2021 I actually made it out to the parade. Very nice parade that mainly consisted of decorated first responder vehicles that shown bright with holiday lights as soon as nightfall hits. They throw tons of candy that it was Almost like my kiddos had a second Halloween. The main event and last thing in the parade was Santa clause up top a fire engine. Overall we always enjoy light up shepherdsville. Always a cool and free holiday light experience. Doing the parade this year added to that experience as well. The series is a may through august event where about once a month they will project a horror/sci fi type movie on a blow up outdoor projector. And it is completely free. A little back story on the name. The legend of Pope lick revolves around a train trestle and urban legends of a goatman. The nearby train trestle has been a popular urban legend and ghost hunter attraction . UnFortunately the trestle is very active and thrill seekers have lost there lives over the years. For more info you can Google goat man Lousiville and there is a whole wiki page for it. So the creature feature plays off the goat man or legend of Pope lick aurora. I first became away of this festival a few years ago and they were showing much scariest films like Friday the 13th and night of the living dead. They have food trucks, concessions, merch stands and people dressed up and I had heard it was a really cool fun event. This past Saturday night in June 2021 me and family came and seen Men in black. Very nice open field and very large screen. The sound quality was shockingly great. Very loud and clear. Better then any normal drive in theatre ive been too. You park in the parking lot and bring a chair or blanket to the field and take your seats. As mentioned they have cool and spooky decor and people in costumes. They have a concession that sales snacks and merch. Indoor bathrooms. Food trucks like Kona ice and they even had guys with telescopes offering free looks at the moon. Very cool. The kids also enjoyed the nearby playground. Me and my children had a blast. We had perfect weather and enjoyed the old classic will smith movie and the atmosphere. They are showing Jurassic park next month and we plan on coming back. We will try and come to as many of these as possible. Very fun, free, and creative event series that hopefully continues for a long time.

Not being able to get food, a table, a drink, or get on a hayride just isn't fun. Today we decided to try our luck at a new spot, Sunny Acres Farm. Sunny Acres took us roughly 30 minutes to drive to. Parking was close, easy, and free. Adult tickets are $10. My children (four and under) were free. Sunny Acres has a small storefront with pumpkins, baked goods, salsas, candy apples, etc. They have various vendors lined up on the short walk to the pumpkin patch. Vendors include artists, kettle corn, and other refreshments. Admission includes access to the petting zoo, bouncy house, pick your own flowers, hayride, corn hole, live music, corn maze, games, and playground. My son rode a pony for $2. The lines were either nonexistent or short. The employees (or perhaps owners?) were friendly, accommodating, and provided a family feel that other similar businesses lack. We ate a meal while we were there. We had hamburgers and hot dogs. I know they also had chili behind the storefront and various other food trucks, including ice cream and adult beverages (cocktails and craft beer). I can't think of anything Sunny Acres lacks. I'm actually afraid of word getting out and having to share this experience with too many people. But, this family farm is worth patronizing.

The house for years was located on Adams run road in Lousiville has moved over to green manor drive a few years back. Still has the same fun and charm as it did at the previous location. The lights are awesome but the roller coaster is always the main event for me and my kids. It takes about 2.5 minutes for a full cycle but it is well worth the wait. A true holiday tradition me and the kids check out every year. It is also only a few miles away from other local legends off outer loop road in toyland Christmas and blue light show. Plus is a Mile or so away from highview holiday fest awesome lights at highview park. So it is truly in a hotspot for awesome holiday lights exploring and you can make a really cool and fun night in that small few mile radius. One thing I always like to give a friendly reminder to people when it comes to awesome light displays like this is for people to please remember this is in a functioning residential neighborhood and to please be courteous to peoples properties and privacy. It can get very crowded here especially the closer you get to Christmas. So just be patient and enjoy the lights and let everyone else do so as well. Overall very cool and fun tradition my family and I do every year. The owner has a sign where he says donations to help with his lg&e are appreciated. Which I can understand and I don't think that's outlandish as this house has provided holiday cheer for many over the years locally in the louisville area.

This is more of a religious event. This free event has You pull in with your vehicle and drive up to individual stations where they have people dressed up and they act out parts of Jesus Christ journey from birth to his death. The place features cool set designs and costumes. There are multiple drive up stations and at each station the actors deliver there lines and interact with the patrons of the vehicle and usually wish you a merry Christmas on the way to the next station. The event is only held one weekend of the holiday season and props to the actors as it has to be cold as it all done outside in the weather elements during a 6pm-8pm night time frame. Also there are several cars that come through and they have to repeat there lines for each individual car. Our favorite part was probably the part where they give you two "gold coins" at the beginning and warn you of Roman guards who block your path to Bethlehem and urge you to use the gold coins for safe passage. The actors and our kids had a lot of fun with that part. Being that this is an individual per car live play experience this Does take some time to go through. We arrived right at 6pm to a line that back up just to the entrance of the fairgrounds and it took 90 min to go through. So be patient. It's a long wait but when you factor in what this is it's very understandable. Plus it's a free event. So hopefully people don't harp on the long waits and appreciates the volunteers. Another important note or disclaimer to consider is while yes this is a holiday event, It is very much a religious event only. So if one was just looking for lights and Santa clauses they would not enjoy this. This whole production is strictly the story of Jesus. So if you aren't religious or if you just don't particularly like religious shows or history then this will not be for you. Overall very unique and different holiday event. I could see some of the younger kids may get bored or frustrated. My kids enjoyed it and appreciated what it took for the workers to make this free event happen. Is this something I'll comeback to every year? Probably not unless they switched up the show. But it's probably worth revisiting every few years. Once again I can't give enough props to the several volunteers who bare the cold and stretch there vocal cords on the weekend this event takes place.
