I came in here a lot skeptical after reading a couple negative reviews. Those folks must really have some high standards. The carpet in this room is fairly new, large King bed, to New looking sitting chairs, desk and dresser showing age but functional. Fridge and microwave. Room is spotlessly clean. The toilet (yes) a lil wobbly, but updated seat fastened securely, Shower works excellent and clean. Don't understand the negative reviews? Come on a clean comfortable room for $50 bucks! And folks bitch about it. Geeesh!

Gum on the flow when we arrived.

Bruce and Sue were extremely accommodating. In fact, Bruce let me usurp his garage spot to charge my electric car (they refused to take money for the electricity usage). Sue's breakfasts were also top notch. Lastly, the grounds and proximity to river views were exceptional. I rated this 5 stars not because it is perfect (the décor was dated and the toilets and showers were small) but because it fully met my expectations given the price (only $130/night for the large Captain's room and high-quality breakfast for 2) and the age of the building (the house is over 100 years-old). I'd happily pay 20% more if they opted to refresh the décor (e.g., wallpaper, improved baths). We will return either way

With limited lodging options in the beautiful Shawnee National Forest, this was a hidden gem. We truly enjoyed the company of the owner and other guests as we relaxed on the porch. Breakfast was a wonderful treat thanks to Sue's culinary skills. Our only complaint was the bed in our room (the Quilt Room) was very worn out. We were told it was about to be replaced--definitely needed! It sound like other rooms were more updated on beds. We loved the house and owners and would love to return.

You could tell the ceiling had leaked and not fixed. The worst was the bed was like a large marshmallow! We slept on the edge of the bed so we didn't sink! It looks very small from the street and maybe only have 8-9 rooms I think. It was very easy to check in and the lady was very nice. There is covered parking right in front of your room door. We were pleasantly surprised when we walked inside. It had a spacious living room area with a tv sofa coffee table and large chair, along with a kitchen, full size fridge, microwave, sink, actual dishes, coffee maker, a dining room table that seated 4 people. The king size bed was in this room. There was a small bathroom in the hall. There was a door that led to the other bedroom in the suite that had its own tv, a queen size bed, and then a huge bathroom. The shower was a walk in shower and was about as big as the other bathroom in the hall! The beds were very comfortable (I kinda wish I had that mattress at home) and the rooms were very clean. It felt like we were at a home away from home. Bonus was that they are pet friendly! There was some wear and tear in a few places. There was a little paint peeled off in the queen bedroom at the baseboard and the tile on the kitchen counter was cracked pretty good. It was nothing that was really noticeable if you weren't OCD lol. The checkout process was easy....just leave the keys on the table. We will definitely be staying here again if our family reunion is in KY again next year!

From the time we got there till the time we left each and every staff member was fabulous. It was very refreshing to have staff members, friendly, smiling and happy. This is being written April 2026. They are remodeling the first floor so we stayed on the second floor. Our room was extremely nice. Very clean and I am very picky. Our room looks to have been completely remodeled within the last 2 to 3 months... The Auburn is conveniently located next to a exit ramp. You don't have to go search for it in a conglomeration of industrial area. They have a very nice restaurant attached Rafferty's excellent food also other restaurants and gas stations nearby along with a brand new coffee shop.

We had a dog with us and we're down in Paducah getting medical treatments. They have a reasonable rate of $89 plus $25 fee for a dog. The construction wasn't an issue at all as they don't start until 8 o'clock, and they finish by 3 PM. Even when we stayed in our room during the day, we never really heard any construction. The hotel was nice. Staff was really nice. The only issues we had were low flow showerheads and that it took a long time for hot water in the morning. Also only limited television channels (16). Don't go off of the old pictures. The rooms that are remodeled are beautiful and spacious. The beds weren't the most comfortable but much better than some hotels that we've stayed at. The breakfast was lacking. The pancake machine did not cook the pancakes through and they were rubbery and uneatable. The coffee cups are too small and the utensils are plastic and so flexible that you couldn't even use them. They would do well to buy a coffee machine that grinds the coffee beans and disperses it like other hotels. While we were there, the lady that was in charge ran out of hot coffee. That wouldn't be a problem if they'd have that. All in all they put down his Tylenol. All in all a great place to stay.

Our stay was INCREDIBLE!…read more First, apologies on how long it took to get to this review. It's been go go go since we returned. However, our stay here was so amazing that it hasn't left our minds. So, the "bed" part of bed and breakfast? So comfortable! The rooms were amazing and had such a sense of history. The rooms were very spacious and beautifully decorated. Vintage wallpaper and bed dressings give you the full effect of traveling in time to a bygone era. The showers and bathtubs were great. The tubs were the claw foot standalone type tubs and not the typical Home Depo special you get in motels and hotels. There's just something about showering in one of those tubs that takes you back. However if you want to use them, there are indeed wonderful modern jacuzzis available in the rooms as well which are super relaxing after a day of walking around and sightseeing and shopping. Things were very comfortable inside despite it being very hot and so humid outside. And there were extra fans if you needed them and you wanted to stay cooler too. The furniture is actual wood and not the cheap particle board stuff used with in so many places today. The wood just feels "rich and elegant." From the outside, you get such a sense of history. The place is absolutely beautiful. Now... the "breakfast" part of bed and breakfast was so filling. You will eat like you've never eaten before and will want more but won't have the space to put it. I wish we could have stayed an extra day even just for the food. The owner asks about your preferences and needs and does such a great job with the food. She makes a killer sweet tea as well! The place was remarkably maintained and the owner was so welcoming. She felt like a family member we haven't seen in so long, like a grandmother to us and our kids. She was super flexible about the check in and check out times as well, enabling us to get a quick shower in before leaving so that after sight seeing we didn't need to sit in our sweaty clothes for the next leg of the trip. We so much wanted to stay longer! It was such a great experience there is no doubt that we will stay here every time we come to Metropolis. Oh and I should mention that when you stay here, you do get admission to the Superman museum included in the cost which is just icing on the cake. So really, why are you still reading? Book a stay. You will not be disappointed. Five stars, fifty stars, five hundred stars!
