He asked me to send him some plans for the proposed project and told me he would get back to me in 2-3 days. I called JCAndray Engineering on Friday, Oct 25, & spoke to the owner/Engineer, Julio. We had a…read moregood and informative conversation about a possible foundation issue I was dealing with at a property. Besides having no reviews on Yelp, I decided to give JCandray Engineering a try. I felt confident of his ability and expertise given that his inquisitive enquiries were so right on with the "possible issues" I had called him about. I also told him that time is of the essence with getting the possible issue, if any, resolved, and if he had any time soon to come walk-thru the property and do a visual inspection. He was accommodated my urgency. We scheduled and agreed to meet the next day, Saturday, Oct 26, the day after our initial conversation. On the day of the appointment, I called to confirm but no answer. I couldn't leave a message as his voicemail had not been set-up yet. I texted him twice as well. I called 4 more times after my initial call and still no reply to the text nor a call back. I would think that to be on the "Top 10 Best" on Yelp, that he would've earned that privilege through a proven record of a job well done and professionalism but alas, it is not so. Its a real shame to deal with supposed "Professional" who do not come through, or at least be accountable for their actions or lack thereof.

We agreed on the amount of $750 to come out for an assessment, followed by a detailed report of repairs needed, and if we decided to have their company do the repairs the $750 would go towards the cost of the repairs. John came out within a few days, took some pictures and said he would send the comprehensive report later that week. After a week of waiting we called them for an update to which his secretary said he would be unable to start writing the report without receiving payment in full. We immediately provided payment information and had to wait another week before we received a 1 page pdf document with illegible hand written random notes and drawings of where some additional nails should be added. When we called to 1) get clarification on what needed to be done and 2) align on the repairs that the $750 would go towards he wasn't available. After half a dozen calls, messages, and emails with ZERO response we are moving forward with a charge back. We also plan to report them to the better business bureau of Nevada.

They sent their structural engineer,…read moreHristo "Chris" Hristov of HH Consulting, to my home to assess whether a wall was load bearing. Chris showed up an hour and a half late and didn't offer an apology or even acknowledge his tardiness. He looked at the wall and said he didn't 'think' it was load bearing. I told Chris that his 'thought' is not good enough; I need confirmation. I asked if he planned on going into the attic to assess the wall from there. Well, he showed up without a ladder and asked to borrow one from me, so perhaps he didn't plan on going into the attic. His conclusion, "it probably isn't load bearing." I never received a letter from him certifying the status of the wall. I looked him up to see if he held an engineering license in the State of Nevada. Nope, as of Dec 2024, he doesn't. And he doesn't have a license with the contractor's board either. I know that it's illegal for a licensed contractor to "aid and abet an unlicensed person" (language of Nevada law) NRS 624.3014. I don't know why Top Renovations would risk a reprimand and sanction by the contractor's board by using an unlicensed engineer. I would not hire HH Consulting and for a multitude of reasons, I will not be hiring Top Renovations.
